Students share tips for staying safe on internet
Published on: Saturday, July 26, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 26, 2025 Text Size: Luqman (left) and Noah thrilled to receive posters signed by Fahmi. STAYING calm and ignoring negative comments is how Form 1 student Luqman Aziz Khairul Azizul avoids online conflict. Luqman, a student from the Bistari class at SM St. Mary, said he only browses the internet during his free time and prefers to focus on positive, useful content. 'I usually scroll through posts that are fun or motivational like DidikTV, funny videos, and entertainment. When I see negative or hateful comments, I just ignore them,' he said. He added that he recently switched from Instagram to TikTok, where he also shops for things like watches and clothes under his mother's supervision. His classmate, Noah Joseph Hannay from Form 1 Dinamik, who has had an Instagram account since Year 5, said he is aware of cyberbullying cases that have gone viral and views them as unethical. 'I don't post much. I mainly scroll through the latest updates on IG. I'm especially into K-pop content, something I picked up from my sister. Cyberbullying is wrong; we should just leave positive comments,' Noah said. Meanwhile, Form 3 student and K-Dat Icon vest recipient Faradira Haratio urged her peers to report any cases of bullying whether online or in school to their parents or teachers. 'For me, bullies need to be identified so they can be punished. Honestly, it makes me angry when people bully others. 'So I always tell friends who are being bullied not to stay silent. Speak up and report it to your parents or teachers,' said Faradira, who is also a school prefect and whose Instagram account is managed by her mother. All three students were visibly excited after receiving posters signed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil during the Kempen Keselamatan Internet (KIS) at SM St. Mary on Wednesday. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Karnival Jom Heboh 2025's first day draws crowds despite sweltering heat
KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds flocked to Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 on its opening day, undeterred by the sweltering heat and the fact that it preceded the weekend tomorrow. The event, held at KL Base, offered an exciting line-up of activities for families, music lovers, gamers and fans of local entertainment. Nana Hamdan, 38, from Johor made the trip with her family, taking the opportunity while her husband had work commitments in KL. "It is a chance to bring the kids out during the school holidays," she said. Though familiar with the Johor version of Jom Heboh, this was her first time attending the KL event. Describing the atmosphere, she said: "It seems livelier here, with more stalls and vendors. We always try to visit the Jom Heboh events to support the traders and to meet celebrities." Nana recalled previous events in Johor with numerous celebrities, adding: "As soon as we got to the parking area, we could feel the excitement." Zakri Shah, 39, a representative from Kaotim, a booth at the event, noted that this was not their first time. "I've been attending (to Jom Heboh) since 2023. Previously, I went to the ones in Kuching, Shah Alam and Johor Baru," he said. Friday saw a lower turnout but they were more optimistic for the weekend. "Visitors will come in large numbers on Saturday." Meanwhile, Muhamad Fadli Ikhwan, 27, an enterpreneur, came with his friends to participate in the Mobile Legends tournament. Commenting in the low turnout, he said it could be due to it being a Friday. "Usually, Jom Heboh is crowded." The day's heat, however, didn't dampen their enthusiasm, as one of Fadli's friend said: "It's okay, but it's hot." The day's activities kicked off at 9am with Zumba with Ejen Ali, followed by a colouring contest at the mini stage at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat. Visitors were entertained during the Nasi Lemak Kopi O' meet-and-greet at 11.30am, as well as a Didik TV edutainment session and the Buletin Challenge hosted by familiar anchors from TV3 and TV9 throughout the day. The day will end with the 'Ejen Ali: The Movie 2' voice actor meet-and-greet session at 6pm followed by karaoke later tonight.
