KUWAIT CITY, July 2: The Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) announced the opening of applications for the sixth edition of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Digital Government Award. Acting CAIT Director General Najat Ibrahim told KUNA on Wednesday that the award aims to recognize and honor outstanding achievements in digital transformation across GCC countries. Applications are now open via the official website with the submission period running from early July until August 31. Ibrahim emphasized that the award serves as a pioneering platform to foster competition and innovation among government agencies in the field of digital transformation. The award features nine main categories covering diverse aspects of digital excellence, including best government digital service, best use of artificial intelligence, best open data initiative, best digital inclusion initiative, and best digital community participation. Other categories include best comprehensive government application, best purposeful digital game, best initiative to build government competencies, and an award recognizing the distinguished government institution in digital transformation. Ibrahim highlighted that the award reflects the broad scope of digital innovation and supports multiple pathways to excellence in government digital services. She further explained that the award aligns with Gulf regional trends to enhance digital cooperation, boost the preparedness of government institutions for future challenges, and achieve sustainable digital development goals within the GCC. Entities interested in participating are required to submit their applications through the authorized contact officer in their respective countries to ensure an organized and coordinated submission process. KUWAIT: Acting Director General of the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) Najat Ibrahim affirmed Kuwait's commitment to advancing digital integration among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, with the aim of improving government services, meeting citizens' aspirations, and supporting sustainable development goals. Speaking at the 27th meeting of the GCC Digital Government Executive Committee, hosted by Kuwait on Monday, Ibrahim highlighted the importance of strengthening joint Gulf efforts in the field of digital governance. The meeting was attended by representatives from ministries and entities concerned with digital government across GCC countries, along with officials from the GCC General Secretariat. Ibrahim noted that the meeting coincides with the 44th anniversary of the GCC's establishment, an occasion that underscores the spirit of Gulf unity and drives efforts to build on past achievements. She praised the GCC General Secretariat for its coordination and support in facilitating the committee's work, describing the gathering as a significant milestone in the region's digital transformation journey. Ibrahim added that the committee approved a new initiative to develop a unified Gulf strategy for artificial intelligence. Oman participates in GCC E-Government Executive Committee meeting

Kuwait: The Sultanate of Oman participated on Monday in the 27th meeting of the GCC E-Government Executive Committee, hosted by the State of Kuwait. Oman's delegation was headed by Eng. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Kharousi, Director General of Digital Transformation and Sector Enablement at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. During the meeting, the committee discussed several agenda items, including reviewing the General Secretariat's report on the implementation of decisions from the 26th meeting, initiatives under the GCC's guiding strategy for e-government, topics related to shared e-services among GCC states, the unified software procurement for GCC countries and initiatives related to artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies. The committee also reviewed the general framework for supporting AI applications in public services across GCC countries, as well as the general framework for the climate prediction and disaster management initiative using AI—both of which were prepared by Oman. Additionally, the meeting discussed the criteria for the GCC Digital Government Award.
