UTAS Al-Mussanah hosts Forum on Digital Transformation in Libraries
Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah recently held a forum titled 'Libraries and Information Institutions in the Digital Revolution Era: Revolution of the Present and Future' at Barceló Resort in South Al Batinah. The event served as a key knowledge-sharing platform focused on the role of libraries in embracing digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern information services. In his opening speech, Dr. Nasser Salem Al Baimani, Assistant Vice Chancellor at UTAS-Al Mussanah, highlighted the university's strong commitment to keeping pace with rapid digital changes. He emphasized that digital transformation is a central part of the university's future strategy, aiming to improve service quality and meet the growing demands of a knowledge-driven society. Ms. Halima Suleiman Al Balushi, Head of the University Library, noted that the forum provided a valuable space for experts and specialists to engage in meaningful discussions. She stressed that the event helps shape the future of libraries and information institutions in line with Oman's vision of building a digitally advanced, knowledge-based society. The forum featured a series of presentations, including a session on 'Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research' by Dr. Faten Fathy Hamdi, Head of Information Studies at Sultan Qaboos University. The event also showcased successful AI applications in libraries, with case studies from the Ministry of Education and Sultan Qaboos University. A panel discussion brought together library directors and specialists to explore AI tools and their role in transforming library services. The forum concluded with key recommendations delivered by Dr. Muna Mohammed Al Farsi, Deputy Assistant Vice Chancellor for E-Systems and Student Services, emphasizing the importance of integrating AI technologies to enhance service quality and align with the demands of the digital age.
