Emmerdale's Fred Kettle breaks silence on Dylan's return
Fred Kettle, who played troubled teen Dylan Penders, will head back to the village and has teased 'trouble'. Dylan played a vital role as April Windsor's friend when she ran away from home, and fans were gutted when he left. Speaking to The Mirror, Fred said he couldn't wait to be back on the ITV soap. Dylan Penders is returning to Emmerdale. (Image: ITV) "I am so glad to be back,' he said. 'It is going to be a nice journey for Dylan, given his experiences. But he is going to cause a bit of bother in the village." Fred also shared how happy he was to have the backing of fans, after they enjoyed his debut earlier this year. Dylan was first introduced as a friend of April Windsor, who she met while living on the streets. He later arrived in the village in an attempt to get clean from drugs and was last seen in March, on his way to rehab. In recent weeks, Emmerdale newcomer Joe Absolom, formerly of EastEnders fame, confirmed a "dark storyline" surrounding Dylan's return to Digital Spy. Fred also confirmed that there would be some new characters tied into his return. He said: 'Watch this space. I can't wait for fans to see what happens. It will be interesting to see his return and how the plot develops. 'But we'll just have to watch and find out." Actress Amelia Flanagan, who plays April, also had shared that she was excited to film with Fred once more. Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw had previously told The Mirror what's ahead for Dylan. She said: "The lovely Fred Kettle who played Dylan is coming back to the show. He is going to be bringing his past back to the village with him and that's going to cause huge problems for April and the family there. "We've got a couple of exciting new castings who are going to be joining us for that story, but I can't tell you who they are yet but watch this space. It's very exciting." Fans react to Dylan returning Earlier this year soap fans were quick to take to social media in support of Dylan – even suggesting he could be a long lost Dingle relative. 'Dylan seems likeable enough but he's still a stranger to Marlon,' another added in reference to April's father. Others said: 'Dylan actually seems like a decent lad.' Emmerdale star breaks silence on Vinny and Kammy twist and confirms aftermath
Emmerdale's Shebz Miah has opened up about a recent twist in the ITV soap involving his character, Kammy Hadiq. Last week, Kammy and new friend Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) decided to get revenge on a delivery driver. He had arrived outside The Hide and started attempting to flirt with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham). Vinny told the young man that he's engaged to Gabby, but Romeo responded with a comment that made Vinny feel insecure. Vinny and Kammy got revenge by stealing Romeo's van and dumping it down a road. As they were chased by the police into the woods, Vinny laughed at the thrill over doing something very unlike him. As the two mates hung out afterwards, Vinny got caught up in a moment and tried to kiss Kammy. It left the latter confused, while Vinny tried to say it was just a joke. Opening up about this new storyline, star Shebz Miah has revealed there's a lot more to come between his character and Vinny. 'Kammy realises that there's a bigger issue at hand for Vinny, because he's been going to such extreme lengths to impress for his anniversary with Gabby, but on the other hand, he's misread the signals and has tried to kiss Kammy. So Kammy does support Vinny on this journey that they go on – and it does get quite exciting', the actor told Digital Spy. 'Kammy's so relaxed with it. He's so comfortable with himself that it doesn't affect him. The only thing that does affect him is: 'You are getting married to Gabs. You need to understand the situation'. So Kammy isn't bothered about the kiss, he more feels for Vinny. Because now it's opened up this different perspective on the relationship that Vinny has with people. 'Kammy's trying to support him on his journey. He's trying to understand and make it easier for Vinny and help him and guide him as to what is going on, because he is obviously in a position where he's not entirely sure.' Shebz has confirmed that there isn't an awkward vibe between the two mates, due to the fact Kammy wants to be there for Vinny on this journey. More Trending 'Kammy's so relaxed. Strictly's Gorka Marquez talks 'most challenging' part of show after major change-up

More info Gorka Marquez, who rose to fame as a Strictly Come Dancing professional, has become a regular face on British telly, popping up again on ITV tonight for Soccer Aid, ahead of his return to the dance floor in the autumn. But it was a TV appearance in his native Spain that made Gorka realise that he might have become slightly too British. Speaking to Digital Spy, Gorka revealed that Spanish audiences complained about having trouble understanding him. He explained that, when he appeared as a judge on Spanish TV's version of Strictly, Bailando con las Estrellas, audiences accused him of "putting on an English accent". "The most challenging thing was speaking Spanish," he said. "I get so many comments from people saying, 'Why is he putting on an English accent if he's Spanish?' and I'm like, 'I'm not putting on an English accent, this is how I speak Spanish now'." Gorka, who was born in the northern city of Bilbao, explained that having worked on Strictly in the UK for almost a decade, when he thinks about the technicalities of dance, he tends to use English words. "Most of the time, [when] I speak about dancing it's in English, so when I help to judge them and I have to make a sentence, I translate it from English to Spanish." (Image: BBC/Guy Levy) He added that while it was a bit of a "challenge" to make the switch from dancer to judge, he really enjoyed his Bailando con las Estrellas experience. He said that it felt like suddenly switching from being a football player to a team manager, when all you want to do is to go back out and play. However, he added, UK Strictly fans can look forward to a good few more years of his fancy footwork: "I want to keep dancing, so in the UK I'll stick to dancing," Gorka's wife, British actress Gemma Atkinson, complains that, with his Spanish TV role adding to his Strictly commitments, he's rarely at home with her and their two children: "He's never here" she said, "It's Strictly from July to December, if they get a partner, they're based where their partner is in the week. Gemma says she always watches the first show of every series with keen interest, hoping that whoever Gorka is partnered with will live near their family home. She explained: "So every time the line-up's announced, all I do, I think, 'I don't care who it is, I just Google where they live.' If they're in Manchester, I'm like, 'great'." Gemma herself competed on the show in 2017, but was dancing with Aljaz Skorjanec, while Gorka was partnered with former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke. Gemma keeps pretty busy herself, with appearances on reality shows such as I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and Celebrity MasterChef. But as an actress, she's known for her appearances as Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks, before leaving that show and going to play Carly Hope in Emmerdale.

Sci-fi series dubbed 'freshest British drama in years' launched 10 years ago
Exactly 10 years ago, Channel 4 released one of the best tech dystopian series of the decade – and no, it's not Black Mirror. The star-studded 2015 series – featuring Gemma Chan, Colin Morgan and Katherine Parkinson – was set in a parallel near-future universe in which human-shaped robots (known as synths) are part of society. The synths' introduction into workplaces, the home, and the seedy underbelly of the cities has transformed the world as we know it. From having human-like robot slaves cleaning our characters' homes to using their bodies as sex dolls to replacing humans with their synth counterparts in the workplace, the three-season show was unafraid to explore the darker side of human-robot relations. Based on a Swedish drama, the show follows the Hawkins family, who are caught up in a technological web far larger than they ever imagined when they bring synth Mia (Gemma) home, who has depths far deeper than meets the eye. The Bafta-nominated series written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley wowed critics and audiences at the time of its release as well, securing an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes for its stellar acting, strong scripts and eerie finger on the pulse. At the time, Empire Magazine called it 'one of the freshest British dramas in years' and Digital Spy dubbed it a 'smart, deftly realised science-fiction with real heart.' New York Magazine said it was 'an impressively fleshed-out show, joining the ranks of other robo-oriented substantive dramas' and the LA Times lauded it for its 'surprisingly nuanced look' at the dangers of artificial intelligence. As laid out by those who watched it, what set Humans apart from the growing genre of sci-fi dystopia was its unapologetic look at the messy morality behind the curtain, and accepting that there was no easy answer. When I find myself looking down the barrel of technologically induced existential doom and looking to indulge, my hand often goes for the TV remote. As a sci-fi nerd and dystopia lover, I have long loved shows like Black Mirror and Orphan Black, but time and time again, I find myself revisiting Humans on Channel 4. Not only does this brilliant cast put on a compelling performance, but the storyline still feels like it could happen at any moment, even 10 years after it first aired. Nowadays, artificial intelligence has become a big part of our everyday lives, from ChatGPT to Character AI to AI-rendered pornography. So the questions raised by Humans around the abuse of women and capturing human consciousness in technology have never felt more relevant. Especially considering our growing co-dependency on technology, in many ways, it feels we are already living out the events of the show. Beyond its pertinent themes, it makes for gritty and grounded television with the human and robot relationships forming the beating heart of the show. Meanwhile, the speculative nature of the show means it goes in weird and wacky places that might not be the most realistic but are certainly fascinating to watch unfold. It is one of the rare times I have found myself rooting for the robots – not an easy feat. Although I think it did lose its way by season three, the first two seasons stand up as vibrant additions to the British sci-fi genre. One fan, RT user Pat K called it an 'uncomfortable watch' and Jared M shared they were 'looking for a new psychological deep sci-fi show that would make me think, and here it is.' Although some of the story arcs, themes or plots may seem outdated, the crux of the show holds up thanks to this layered approach. The first two seasons hold water with water-tight characters and motivations even if, as some fans have pointed out, it does lose steam by the final season with shakier plotlines. Speaking of the ethos behind the show in 2015, the co-creators told Den of Geek there is 'a strain of resistance to sci-fi in British TV commissioning'. More Trending They added: 'But people who are nervous of the term usually actually mean 'space opera' rather than 'sci-fi'. 'We're more the speculative science fiction of ideas, the kind that doesn't go to other galaxies but puts the scary, weird idea right in your living room.' And that they do.
