EXCLUSIVE: Kush Jotwani on Landing Metro… In Dino; 'I Got the Confirmation Right Before My Flight Took Off'

As he gears up for his big theatrical debut in Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino, rising actor Kush Jotwani is still soaking in the surreal feeling of watching his dream unfold on the big screen. Speaking exclusively to The Hans India, Kush opened up about how he landed the role, what it was like working with the acclaimed filmmaker, and why this project feels like a full-circle moment in his journey. 'The feeling hasn't quite sunken in yet,' Kush said with a smile. 'We're just hours away from the film's release, about 12 hours, to be exact and it still feels unreal. I think it'll hit me properly by evening. For now, I'm trying to stay calm and just take it all in.' Now as Kush soaks in one the biggest moments and a first in his life, he even shared the story of how he was cast in Metro... In Dino and it is just as cinematic as the film itself. Recalling the moment, Kush added, 'It was crazy, actually. I literally mean crazy because I was shooting for Dil Dosti Dilemma and this one fine day while shooting, someone from Basu sir's team just reached out to me regarding a meeting that I need to have with Basu sir. I mean, this goes way back. Kavish Sinha was the casting director for this. ' What followed was a brief but memorable Zoom meeting with director Anurag Basu, which Kush attended from his vanity van while still on another shoot. 'It was a five-minute Zoom call where Basu sir said he liked my clip and wanted to meet in person. And that's the thing about him, he's so grounded, so simple. There's nothing over-the-top about his process. He doesn't need high-tech setups or formalities. He reads your body language, the way you speak… that's his real audition,' he added. Kush recalled how after that meeting, they met in person and filmmaker Anurag Basu asked him to send one final short video, what he calls a "proof audition", before locking him in for the role. To quote him, 'Like just give me the small video and then we can probably lock it. I sent that across and just before taking off from Bangalore, I was in the flight. I cannot forget that feeling. I was in the flight and just before taking off, I got a message from the production house that I'm confirmed for the role. And ever since then it was something else. I could not explain that feeling.' Kush even shared his time filming the sequel of Life In a Metro, and how was it like being on Anurag Basu's set. He said, 'Working with Basu sir is, I mean, you always, you always have a dream of working with the best of the best of the directors in the country and working with Basu Sir just makes, gets me closer to that dream. And you know, his style of working is very, very different, very unique. And it was a great time on set.' Nearly two years since shooting began, Metro... In Dino is finally hitting cinemas. To which Kush added, 'now that a year and a half, two years have passed, the film is finally coming out. So I am just, I'm also nervous to an extent, but I'm very excited. So I think that balance should be there. it is essential.' After taking over OTT space with his acting skills, Kush Jotwani is all set to make his mark on big screen Kush will be seen as a corporate executive in a story featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan. Dino releases in theatres on July 4th. Having already made his mark in the OTT space with Knock Hain? and Dil Dosti Dilemma, Kush Jotwani is now all set to step into the big league, and he surely is one to watch! In Metro... Last Updated: Kush Jotwani will soon be seen in Dino. The film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripati, Ali Fazal and Neena Gupta among others in key roles. Content creator Kush Jotwani won hearts last year when he made his acting debut with the series Dil Dosti Dilemma, opposite Anushka Sen. Now, Kush is gearing up for the release of two of his new projects. The young talent will soon be seen in Knock Knock Kaun Hai. Besides this, he also has Anurag Basu's Metro…In Dino in his kitty. The latter also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripati, Ali Fazal and Neena Gupta among others in the lead. Therefore, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Kush was asked if he feared being overshadowed while working with the veterans in Metro…In Dino. Read on to know what he had to say. Playing Farzaan has been an overwhelming experience, but mostly enriching and a learning process. I believe learning is constant, and working with such an esteemed set of professionals just motivates you to give it your all and work harder. What can you tell us about your character in Knock Knock Kaun Hai and what made you say yes to this role? The character arc and how vital it was. I knew I wanted something like this, where my character either conveys an important message or brings a drastic change in the story. Also, the chills, I'll never forget it. On the reading day, I was ecstatic. The mystery of Knock Knock was lovely. You're starring opposite Aadhya Anand in this project. How was the experience working with her and what kind of dynamic can we expect between your characters? Working with Aadhya was extremely fun as she brought a lot of light on the set. Working on a long format brings the entire cast and crew closer together, which helps build the project strongly. She has been of great help. I will always acknowledge and remember her guidance. You can watch the show to see how the chemistry fits in. You also have a part in Metro… In Dino, a film that already has a lot of buzz. Can you share a bit about your role and what excites you the most about being part of this ensemble? My character is a working corporate executive. Managing work & relationships and making sure he gives it all in what he's got to do. The storyline I am involved in revolves primarily around Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur. Working with this starcast and getting a chance to meet and speak to them, is all what excited me initially if I'm being honest. How was it working with Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan? It was a great experience because I got to learn a lot about the process of making films and what goes into understanding them. They are extremely humble human beings and it was a joy sharing the screen with them. Did you even fear being overshadowed by the cast of Metro…In Dino? Never did a thought come in my mind about being overshadowed by the star cast of Metro In Dino, they are extremely talented actors of our country and I have only had a beautiful experience with them. I feel my journey has just begun. I only have to learn and never did I get any such thought coming into my mind. What do you look for in a script or character before saying yes to a project? I look for ideas to discover more sides into the shade of a character. The character must speak to me like it's calling out to me. It challenges me to learn more about the craft. A good dynamic. Maybe a twist. A curve in the story. Maybe portraying an important message across. They are very different mediums. Long-form shows are more in-depth as the days are longer. In films, the days are shorter. There's more to the story in shows. I love both the platforms. I'd love to discover it more to have an opinion on them. Working with a stellar starcast and how the audiences' belief and trust over my last few projects is projected as confidence in the performance of my upcoming film. First Published:
