Former Oregon Ducks football star Dillon Gabriel being drafted by Browns in third round questioned as conspiracy
Since being taken in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, former Oregon Ducks football star Dillon Gabriel has outplayed Shedeur Sanders during OTAs and rookie minicamp. Still, some are pushing conspiracy theories about the legitimacy of Gabriel being drafted despite Sanders being linked to the Browns more often leading up to the draft. Advertisement Former Division III rags-to-riches NFL story Cecil Shorts called into question the legitimacy of Gabriel's selection. Shorts believes Sanders is 'way better' than Gabriel. 'Let them battle it out, choose one and ride with them and see what they can do. And I'm not big on switching quarterbacks... I hate that. Let the rookie battle all 17 games; if he's healthy, battle all 17 games. Let him develop. Let him get better,' Shorts said on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show. 'To me, talent-wise like you mentioned, Shedeur is way better than Dillon. Dillon wasn't on anybody's list. Let's call a spade of spade. Nobody was thinking about Dillon Gabriel being drafted in the first three rounds. Nobody. Wasn't on anybody's list. Nobody was talking about him on TV at all. Come on, let's be real here.' Advertisement Sanders may have looked more impressive against Big 12 defenses last year in a Colorado Buffaloes offense tailored to him specifically, but Gabriel has proven himself in Berea. That's the only thing that matters now. Not Sanders' notoriety, or anyone's labeling of Gabriel as a 'professional backup.' Shorts may not be onto something here. Sanders can change that, but the results Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has seen this offseason matter more than anything else.

Cecil Shorts III has a take on Browns' upcoming QB battle
The Cleveland Browns will see their quarterbacks and rookies report in just over a week, beginning one of the biggest NFL storylines in training camp: what is going to happen between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders? The Browns will host a four-way quarterback battle in training camp, leaving room for even one of the rookies in Gabriel or Sanders to win the job. One former NFL receiver has a take on the Browns' quarterback situation as well, stating that Sanders should have the upper hand between he and the earlier drafted Gabriel. Cecil Shorts III, a former Mount Union product and long-time NFL wide receiver, was on The Ultimate Cleveland Show and stated that there is no question who the better quarterback is: "To me, talent-wise like you mentioned, Shedeur is way better than Dillon... Dillon wasn't on anybody's list. Let's call a spade of spade. Nobody was thinking about Dillon Gabriel being drafted in the first three rounds. Nobody. Wasn't on anybody's list. Nobody was talking about him on TV at all. Come on, let's be real here." Shorts then even went on to say how he would handle the Browns' quarterback situation, stating that he would let one quarterback play it out for 17 games: "Let them battle it out, choose one and ride with them and see what they can do... And I'm not big on switching quarterbacks...I hate that. Let the rookie battle all 17 games; if he's healthy, battle all 17 games. Let him develop. Let him get better." And it's clear which quarterback Shorts prefers.

Browns QB Dillon Gabriel lands hilarious, fitting endorsement
Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel has landed one of the more hilarious endorsement deals to be found. The third round rookie quarterback is now the face of the Chrysler Pacifica. Gabriel went viral during the draft process for being known as the quarterback who would haul all of his teammates around, make sure guys got to practice on time, and more by shuttling them in his minivan. Gabriel's Pacifica was a common sight to see all around Eugene, Oregon, and the team facility. Advertisement Now, it will be a common thing to see around Northeast Ohio. According to Darrell Rovell, Gabriel signed an endorsement deal with Chrysler to become a brand ambassador for their famous minivan. Who knows? Maybe he'll become the leader in Cleveland who will be seen taking his offensive linemen out to dinner in his Pacifica, and more! As Gabriel gets set to enter into a four-man quarterback battle in training camp, at least he now has a ton of storage to carry around the weight of that responsibility. Shedeur Sanders Faces Dire Prediction as Browns' Season Approaches
Shedeur Sanders Faces Dire Prediction as Browns' Season Approaches originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shedeur Sanders will face an uphill battle to earn a spot on the depth chart with the Cleveland Browns this summer, and one analyst believes his long-term projection could be even more dire. Advertisement Sanders is expected to fall behind veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett as well as fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel as the Browns have taken an all-hands-on-deck approach to replacing the injured Deshaun Watson. Bleacher Report's Moe Moton believes the team's quarterback additions will not do much to change their fortunes, predicting the Browns will finish in last place in the AFC North. Moton pointed out that the Browns lack playmaking ability on offense. "In addition to the pocket pressure Browns signal-callers could face, the offense only features one established receiver, Jerry Jeudy," Moton noted. Cleveland Browns rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel Shedeur Sanders© Jeff Lange / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images While Sanders is looking to overcome his NFL draft tumble to the fifth round, Moton believes he will not be the solution, suggesting that the quarterback of the future isn't even on the roster yet. Advertisement "The Browns will remain in the AFC North cellar with an eye on quarterbacks next year," Moton wrote. The Browns are expected to turn back to Watson after he recovers from a torn Achilles that he re-tore during his rehabilitation last year. Watson has two years remaining on his fully guaranteed, $230 million contract. But the Browns will need to find a fill-in for the upcoming year, with Watson expected to miss most if not all of the next season. Related: Browns Could Cut Shedeur Sanders? Browns Predicted to Suffer Harsh Reality in 2025
Browns Predicted to Suffer Harsh Reality in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, the Cleveland Browns suffered a horrific fall. After an 11-6 finish in 2023 and a postseason berth behind unlikely hero Joe Flacco, Cleveland suffered numerous injuries to key players and finished 3-14. Advertisement Flacco was banished to Indianapolis in free agency, since the team didn't want him to be a threat to Deshaun Watson's starting job under center. With Watson once again injured with his 2025 season in jeopardy, Flacco returns at age 40. In an attempt to find a suitable replacement for Watson, general manager Andrew Berry also signed veteran Kenny Pickett and drafted Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round. What he didn't address was the wideout position, which could need help too, and Bleacher Report's Moe Moton agrees. "Whoever starts at quarterback will experience his fair share of struggles behind an offensive line with two unreliable tackles, Moton wrote. "In addition to the pocket pressure Browns signal-callers could face, the offense only features one established receiver, Jerry Jeudy. The Browns will remain in the AFC North cellar with an eye on quarterbacks next year." Advertisement The problem with Moton's premise is that while they will potentially turn over the QB room again, he doesn't say anything about improving the wideout position. Why would the Browns give up on Gabriel and Sanders (and on Pickett, for that matter) when the problem was the receivers they were throwing to? Why not just fix the problem rather than waste an entire draft? Seems short-sighted, and if it happens, could cost both the GM and head coach their jobs.
