One individual remains at large, superintendent of police Dilpreet Singh said on Monday. Sangrur police have so far recovered 21 fake Aadhaar cards and computer accessories used for document printing from the accused, said SP Dilpreet Singh. (HT photo for representation) The SP said that the police received a tip-off on June 24 regarding Rajveer Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Sukhwinder Singh alias Billa colluding with lawyers and munshis to secure bails for large sums of money using fake documents. 'Rajveer Singh and Hardeep Singh were arrested the same day under charges 318(4) (cheating), 338 (forgery), 336(3) (committing forgery), 340(2) (forgery of valuable security), 319(2) (cheating by personation), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Their interrogation revealed a larger network involved in facilitating bail using fake documents. The probe was expanded to include Baljit Singh alias Guri, Surjit Singh, Manjinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh alias Nambardar, Mohit Kumar, and Manpreet Singh alias Mani in the case,' the SP said. Explaining the modus operandi, a police official privy to the probe said that Hardeep, Rajveer, Mohit, and Manpreet were responsible for creating fake documents for bail applications. 'These documents were then shared with Surjit Singh and printed by Baljit Singh Guri,' the police official said, pleading anonymity. 'On June 26, Mohit, Manpreet, and Baljit were apprehended. A CPU, LCD, keyboard, mouse, colour printer, and a lamination machine were recovered from Baljit Singh's possession, indicating the setup used for preparing fake documents,' the SP said. 'On the following day, on June 27, Surjit, who was already incarcerated in Central Jail, Ludhiana, in connection with another case and known for preparing fake Aadhaar and identity cards as surety documents, was arrested after being brought in on a production warrant. On the same day, Manjinder and Gurdeep, who were lodged in Sangrur district jail under a case were also arrested on production warrants,' the SP said. The police added that during the ongoing interrogation, it was revealed that this group collectively secured approximately 40 bails from various courts in Sangrur, Dhuri, Khanna, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. 'Sangrur police have so far recovered 21 fake Aadhaar cards and computer accessories used for document printing from the accused,' the SP added.

In addition, ₹ 17.43 lakh in drug money was recovered during operations across the district. The drive also extended to properties linked with drug peddlers. A total of six properties, including houses, tea vends, and residential rooms in areas like Jandpur, Lalru, Amlala, and Kharar, were demolished under NDPS Act provisions. These actions were taken against repeat offenders such as Lakhan, a resident of Lalru, and Dilpreet Singh alias Billa from Chatoli. The campaign, officials say, is not just about arrests but also about dismantling the infrastructure and financial channels aiding the drug network. Senior officials believe targeting illegal properties used in the drug trade sends a strong message. Speaking on the crackdown, superintendent of police (SP) Deepika Singh said, 'We are detecting, investigating, and acting against every part of the drug network. This is not a one-time drive, it will continue with full force. Future offenders will face strict action. At the same time, we are also working on rehabilitation efforts for addicts, because breaking the demand cycle is just as important as targeting the supply.' Officials said that the operations will intensify in the coming weeks.

FIH men's Hockey Pro League 2024-25: India endures 1-2 defeat against the Netherlands
The India men's hockey team went down 1-2 against the host in its first fixture of the Netherlands leg of the men's FIH Hockey Pro League at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen. India captain Harmanpreet Singh (19') handed the visitor the lead in a fiercely contested battle before Thijs van Dam (29', 58') registered a brace for the Netherlands. India began the encounter on a strong note, dominating possession with crisp passing despite the Netherlands' high press. While the first eight minutes didn't yield any real threats on goal from either side, India's best opportunity of the day came when it won the ball inside the Dutch circle. Dilpreet Singh's reverse hit, however, was shut down at close range by goalkeeper Maurits Visser. At the other end, the Netherlands threatened late in the quarter as Thierry Brinkman approached the right flank, but the Indian defence stood firm to avert the danger. The Netherlands came out with intent in the second quarter, with Steijn van Heijningen testing Suraj Karkera in the 17th minute, only for the Indian goalkeeper to block the effort away. Harmanpreet stepped up and fired a powerful, low shot to give India the lead. As the quarter progressed, India exhibited a tight defensive formation, but the home team managed to break through in the 24th minute with van Dam finding the equaliser leaving the scores at 1-1 before half-time. As the second half began, India's strong passing game was at the centre of proceedings, but the visitor was encumbered by a lack of clear scoring opportunities and shots on goal. To break the deadlock, India looked to bypass the midfield with long aerial balls, but the Dutch defence was up to the task. At the other end, the Netherlands grew increasingly assertive, posing more questions of the Indian backline, though the deadlock remained intact at 1–1 after a tepid third quarter. Netherlands had the lion's share of possession in the final quarter, and the host made it count. Van Dam struck again in the 58th minute, making the most of a well-placed pass into the circle. With a deft first touch to control, he followed up with a fierce strike, ensuring victory for the Netherlands. Related Topics India / Harmanpreet Singh
