(AP Photo/Eranga Jayawardena) COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took his 12th five-wicket haul in test cricket to lead Sri Lanka to a dominating win over Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs in the second cricket test and a 1-0 series victory in the two-match series. The fourth day started with Bangladesh struggling on 115 for six needing 97 more runs to make Sri Lanka bat again. But the match lasted less than 30 minutes as Jayasuriya polished off the tail by taking three of the last four wickets at the Singhalese Sports Club. Advertisement Bangladesh was all out for 133 in its second innings having made 247 in the first. Sri Lanka scored 458 in its first innings dominated by a brilliant century from opener Pathum Nissanka and backed up by half-centuries from Dinesh Chandimal (93) and Kusal Mendis (84). Litton Das (14) edged Jayasuriya to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis with one run added to the overnight score. Jayasuriya lured Nayeem Hasan (5) for a drive and he was stumped by Kusal Mendis. Jayasuriya caught Taijul Islam (6) off his own bowling while off spin bowler Tharindu Rathnayake ended the game trapping Ebadot Hossain (6) lbw. Jayasuriya finished the innings with 5-56. Nissanka ton puts Sri Lanka on top in second Bangladesh Test
In-form opener Pathum Nissanka scored an unbeaten 146 as Sri Lanka tightened their grip on the second Test against Bangladesh on day two in Colombo on Thursday. The hosts were 290-2 at stumps, a lead of 43 on the back of Nissanka's sparkling innings off 238 balls. It follows his career-best score of 187 in the first Test in Galle, which ended in a draw. Nissanka found an able partner in former skipper Dinesh Chandimal, who scored a fluent 93 before a lapse in judgement saw him lose his wicket minutes before stumps. The two put on 194 runs together. "We are in a very good position, tomorrow we have to bat the whole day. We will try to get a lead of 150 to 200," said wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis. "Shame he missed out on a double hundred in Galle. I hope he does it here," he said of Nissanka. Frustrated by their inability to break through, Bangladesh resorted to negative lines and spread fields but Chandimal and Nissanka answered with a flurry of reverse sweeps. Nissanka's opening partner Lahiru Udara was undone for 40 by a Taijul Islam delivery that held its line. Originally given not out, the decision was overturned after a review. Earlier, debutant Sonal Dinusha took 3-22 as Sri Lanka bowled out the visitors for 247. Bangladesh resumed the day on 220-8 and lasted 8.3 overs with overnight batsman Taijul the last man out for 33, caught off Dinusha's left-arm spin. All-rounder Dinusha, who came in for the retired Angelo Mathews, had made an instant impact by dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das on the opening day. Fast bowler Asitha Fernando also finished with three wickets after he struck the first blow on Thursday. Taijul offered some resistance and survived a reprieve on 20 when Kamindu Mendis shelled a tough chance at wide mid-off, denying Fernando his fourth wicket. The left-hander frustrated the hosts with a gutsy knock during which he copped a few blows to the helmet. Bangladesh eked out 33 runs for the last two wickets. Play began 15 minutes early to compensate for overs lost to rain on day one when only 71 of the scheduled 90 overs were possible. The winner at Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club ground will clinch the series after last week's draw. "Sri Lanka are ahead in the game at the moment, but we know the new ball is due," said Bangladesh coach Phil Simmons. "We will try to make an impact with the new ball. We know things can happen quickly if we are able to get a couple of wickets with the new ball."

Nissanka-Chandimal Partnership Powers Sri Lanka to 290-2 After Bangladesh All Out
Pathum Nissanka's second successive Test century led Sri Lanka to a formidable 290–2 after Bangladesh was bowled out for 247 on day two of the second Test on Thursday. The opening batter's chanceless unbeaten 146 off 238 balls with 18 fours followed his career-best 187 in the drawn first Test at Galle last week. Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal ground down the Bangladesh bowlers with their 194-run second-wicket stand. Chandimal was seven runs from a century (93 off 153 balls) when he tried to reverse sweep Nayeem Hasan and gloved an easy catch to wicketkeeper Litton Das in fading light. Chandimal was dismissed in the 90s for the first time. Bangladesh wasted a review when it went for a leg before wicket (LBW) referral against nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya, who will resume on 5. Nissanka and Lahiru Udara gave Sri Lanka a brisk start of 88 before Taijul Islam broke through soon after lunch. Udara made a brisk 40 off 65 balls but stayed in his crease against the left-armer's straight delivery, and Bangladesh successfully reviewed. Fast bowler Nahid Rana was wayward in his short spells despite bowling consistently at 144 kph, and the tall pacer's ploy of challenging Nissanka and Chandimal with bouncers also proved ineffective. Chandimal successfully overturned an LBW decision on 30. Nissanka raised his fourth Test century off 167 balls with a backfoot-driven boundary against Rana shortly after tea. It is his 11th 50-plus score in his 18th Test. Chandimal also opened up late in the last session with reverse sweeps. Both batters used their feet well against the spinners and punished the loose balls from the fast bowlers. Sri Lanka's Nissanka leads composed response to Bangladesh's 495 in 1st cricket test
GALLE, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka reached 100 for one at lunch on Day 3 of the first cricket test in a composed response to Bangladesh's first innings total of 495. Pathum Nissanka led the charge with a display of silken strokeplay, peppering the off-side with a series of elegant drives. There was a moment of drama when, on 36, he offered a chance but Mominul Haque dropped a sharp attempted catch at short leg off Nayeem Hasan's first over. At the interval, Nissanka remained unbeaten on 46 and was joined by Dinesh Chandimal, who was unbeaten on 22 and anchoring the innings with his usual composure. The only Sri Lanka wicket to fall in Thursday's morning session was Lahiru Udara for 29. The 31-year-old righthander had shown early promise but fell to a soft dismissal – a leading edge ballooning back to left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. It was a tame end to what had promised to be a bright beginning in the test format. Bangladesh's seamers, in particular Nahid Rana, bowled with fire. The 22-year-old paceman beat the bat repeatedly without reward in a spell that contained good pace, discipline and a bit of zip off the surface. Earlier in the morning session, it took Sri Lanka just 16 deliveries to finish off the Bangladesh innings. From a position of strength at 458 for four late on Day 2, the tourists unravelled and eventually lost their last six wickets for 37 runs. Asitha Fernando, bustling in with purpose and precision, was the spearhead of the Sri Lanka revival, claiming four wickets with admirable rhythm. He was ably supported by Milan Rathnayake, whose pace and clever variations earned him three wickets. On debut, Tharindu Rathnayake, bowling with composure that belied his inexperience, chipped in with three crucial wickets. For the better part of two days, it was almost one-way with Mushfiqur Rahim playing with poise in compiling a masterful 163 — an innings built on judgment, timing and grit.
