Tiruchi District Central Library marks Helen Keller Day

The Tiruchi District Central Library and its Readers' Forum observed Helen Keller Day by organising a special function for visually challenged persons on Saturday. The global commemorative holiday (June 27) celebrates the life and achievements of the American author and disability rights advocate Helen Keller who lost her sight and hearing at a young age. I. Abdul Jabbar, a visually challenged senior government school history teacher and coordinator of the library's differently abled section, was conferred with the Helen Keller Award for his services to promote the institution's initiatives for persons with disability. Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Jabbar lauded the District Central Library officials for installing the free screen reader NVDA in the institution's computers that had helped many visually challenged candidates to pursue higher education and prepare for competitive exams through an audio database of learning material. He said at present, 75 visually challenged persons who studied with the help of the District Central Library in Tiruchi are working in government jobs. Visually challenged persons presented poems and songs as part of a cultural show. Social activist and Readers' Forum head Allirani Balaji and Grade 1 Librarian S. Dhanalakshmi spoke.

District Central Library to hold coaching classes for supplementary exams

District Central Library and its Readers' Forum in association with the State School Education Department, will be launching free coaching classes on May 15 to July 1 for supplementary exams for secondary school students who have failed or wish to improve their current performance in the Plus 1 and Plus 2 exams held in March this year. According to an official press release, the inaugural in-person class will be held at the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This would be followed up with tutorials on WhatsApp and online video classes from 6 p.m. Those interested must be accompanied by their parents while registering for the classes at the library. They will be required to bring their text books and stationery to class, and present their Aadhaar card as identity proof. Students who perform well in the tests will be additionally trained in artificial intelligence skills, said the release. More information may be had from (Mob) 8072226768.

District Central Library to hold model TNPSC Group IV test

The District Central Library will conduct free model tests on Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group IV competitive exams from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m on May 12. The free tests will be held in association with N.R.I.A.S Academy and Rotary Phoenix Club. Portions covered for the model test will be Unit IV Indian Constitution, Unit V Tamil reading and writing comprehension, January 2025 Current Affairs and problems of Volume in Mathematics. The first five candidates to score high marks in the test will be given a cash prize of ₹500 each. Students who come second will be given ₹400, and those placed third will be given ₹300. A sum of ₹250 will be gifted to those who are ranked in fourth and fifth place. The library is also conducting practice sessions on its second floor from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday every week for Groups II, II-A, and IV.

In addition to this, the library is conducting practice sessions on its second floor from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday every week for Groups II, II-A, and IV.

The District Central Library will conduct model tests on TNPSC Group IV competitive exams from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m on April 28. The free tests will be held in association with N.R. I.A.S Academy and Rotary Phoenix Club. Portions covered for the Group IV model test will be Unit III Indian History, Culture and Indian National Movements, Unit III Tamil writing skills, November 2024 Current Affairs and problems of Simple Interest and Compound Interest in Mathematics. The first five candidates to score high marks in the test will be given a cash prize of ₹500 each. Three students who come second will be given ₹400, and three of those placed third will be given ₹300 each. Two students who are placed at fourth and fifth ranks will be presented ₹250 each. In addition to this, the library is conducting practice sessions on its second floor from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday every week for Groups II, II-A, and IV.
