Onam celebrations in Kerala to be held from September 3 to 9
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state-level Onam celebrations will be held from September 3 to 9, concluding with a grand procession in Thiruvananthapuram. The decision was made at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. There will be coordinated efforts from all departments to ensure vibrant and eco-friendly festivities. District Tourism Promotion Councils will lead the district-level events. The stretch from Kowdiar to Manacaud in the state capital will be declared the main festival zone, with improved lighting and green protocols in place. Kudumbashree will organise fairs at various levels and oversee the vegetable and flower farming. The harvest will be completed ahead of the festival, while Onam kits containing essential items will be made available both online and offline.

Thiruvananthapuram : The state-level Onam celebration will be held from Sept 3 to 9. District-level celebrations will be organised under the leadership of District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC). The decision was made in a meeting chaired by CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Vijayan instructed that various departments should coordinate to organise the Onam celebrations in an expansive and attractive manner. The area from Kowdiar to Manacaud in Thiruvananthapuram will be declared a festival zone, with enhanced decorative lighting. The events will be conducted under the theme of 'Green Onam', adhering to environmental guidelines. Onam fairs will be organised at the district, CDS and ADS levels under the leadership of Kudumbashree, a press release stated. Kudumbashree also undertook vegetable and flower cultivation, with the harvest to be completed before Onam. A kit containing all necessary items for Onam will be made available both in-person and online. Supplyco will start Onam markets at district, taluk and constituency centres. Onam celebrations to begin on September 3
The Kerala government will organise the State-level Onam celebrations on a grand scale in Thiruvananthapuram from September 3 to 9. The week-long celebrations will conclude with a colourful pageantry in the capital city on September 9. Besides, the Onam festivities will be organised under the auspices of District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC) at the district level. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Saturday (July 19, 2025). Various departments should work in tandem to organise the Onam celebrations in an attractive manner, the Chief Minister directed. The area from Kowdiar to Manacaud in Thiruvananthapuram will be declared a festival zone. Onam programmes will be organised adhering to the green protocol. Onam fairs, under the aegis of Kudumbashree, will be organised at community development societies and area development societies across the State. Besides these, fairs will be held at the district level too. Vegetables and flowers cultivated under the Kudumbashree will be harvested ahead of the Onam. Onam kits It has also been decided to make available Onam kits containing all the essential items both directly and online. Supplyco Onam markets will also be launched at the district, taluk, and constituency levels, the meeting decided. The State government also decided to explore the possibility of organising cultural events by roping in cultural institutions and programmes involving fishing vessels in the fisheries sector to attract people. Distribution of vegetables and essential items has already been started through Consumerfed and primary cooperative societies. More primary societies are engaged in the cultivation of vegetables aimed at the Onam markets. More items would be brought to the Onam markets through Horticorp's vegetable markets and by activating the support systems of the Agriculture department, the meeting decided.
