Disturbed Barely Misses Hitting No. 1 With Multiple Songs
Disturbed's 'The Sound of Silence' returns to multiple Billboard charts, as both the original and a ... More remix land at No. 2 on separate sales rankings. CHICAGO, IL - OCTOBER 10: David Draiman of Disturbed performs at SiriusXM Presents Disturbed Live From The Vic Theatre In Chicago on October 10, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo byfor SiriusXM) Disturbed is still promoting its most recent single "I Will Not Break," which may mark the beginning of a new era for the band. The track continues to appear on a trio of Billboard's radio rankings, and while it's largely on the decline, it could persist for weeks — or even months — as fans appear to love the tune. As listeners continue to support "I Will Not Break," three of Disturbed's past tracks are also still present on the Billboard charts, ranking among the top 10 bestselling cuts on multiple different sales lists. Impressively, two of the band's older favorites even manage to return this week. 'The Sound of Silence' Blocked from No. 1 by AC/DC Aside from "I Will Not Break," the only other track from Disturbed that appears on more than one Billboard chart is the band's cover of Simon & Garfunkel's classic, "The Sound of Silence." That rendition soars to the runner-up spot on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking, narrowly missing out on returning to the summit. Instead, AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" climbs to No. 1, earning its sixty-first stay in the penthouse. "The Sound of Silence" also returns to the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart, coming in at No. 7. The cut has previously reached the top of both rankings and has now spent more than 400 weeks on each of the two tallies. Disturbed and Ann Willson Reappear This week, Disturbed doubles up on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as "Don't Tell Me," the group's collaboration with Heart singer Ann Wilson, reappears a few spots below "The Sound of Silence." That cut breaks back in at No. 5. The duet has only spent half a dozen periods on the list, but has already reached the summit. 'The Sound of Silence' in Different Forms "The Sound of Silence" is so popular it shows up on three different Billboard rankings, though in two different forms. The original cover continues to sell well, while a remix by producer Cyril maintains its presence on the Dance Digital Song Sales tally, where it's now been found for well over a year. This week, that version is a non-mover at No. 2. Amazingly, both the original and the remix editions of "The Sound of Silence" hold in second place — just on completely separate lists.

Lady Gaga Blocks Disturbed Blocked From Returning To No. 1
Disturbed's cover of Simon & Garfunkel's 'The Sound of Silence' may have felt like a surprising choice when it was first released years ago, but it has since gone on to become a career-defining smash for the group. Multiple versions of the tune continue to chart to this day, and the hard rock outfit almost returns to the summit on a list few could have predicted it would ever reach — let alone lead. The rockers are currently held back from ruling the show once more by one of the biggest pop stars of all time. Years after Disturbed's version of 'The Sound of Silence' became a hit, the group released a remix by producer Cyril. That version has also become a smash in its own right, albeit one that reaches different Billboard lists than the hard rock original. The remixed track can still be found on the Dance Digital Song Sales chart, where this frame it steps up from No. 4 to No. 2. Disturbed only misses ruling again by one spot, as 'Abracadabra' by Lady Gaga refuses to budge. That tune has spent 16 of its 19 weeks on the list of the bestselling dance tracks in America in first place. 'Abracadabra' is proving to be a true bestseller in the dance world this year. Last week, the track blocked Tate McRae's 'Just Keep Watching' from debuting at No. 1, and this frame it dips from the runner-up spot to No. 3. Recently, Gaga's Mayhem single also blocked 'Blessings' by Calvin Harris and Clementine Douglas and a remix of Creed's 'One Last Breath' by ATLiens from ruling, as all of those cuts missed the mark by just one space. While Disturbed's 'The Sound of Silence' might be forced to settle for second place at the moment, it has already spent time running the show. The hard rock group has only ever landed one win on the Dance Digital Song Sales chart, and 'The Sound of Silence' has commanded the list for half a dozen frames out of the 71 stints it has spent somewhere on the tally. The Disturbed song currently lives inside the top 10 on two similarly-composed but different-sounding rosters. As it settles into second place on the Dance Digital Song Sales chart, the original cover dips slightly to No. 4 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking. In just a few weeks, the tune will reach 500 frames as a bestseller on that roster.

Metallica's Smash Brings The Band To A Milestone For The First Time
Metallica's catalog is filled with the kind of rock smashes any band would be lucky to claim. The Grammy-winning group has produced more hits than most acts could ever dream of – especially in the hard rock space – but when it comes to pure purchases by American listeners, one title stands out above the rest. 'Enter Sandman' is a bestseller yet again in the United States. The track currently appears on a trio of Billboard rankings dedicated purely to sales, and this frame is especially notable for the tune. Metallica's timeless cut lifts one spot on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, earning its one-hundredth stay on the list of the bestselling rock-only tracks in the country. The track is so massively popular that it has spent more time on the tally than Metallica's other 13 charting successes combined. The group's second-longest running entry is 'Master of Puppets,' which so far has managed just seven appearances on the list. While 'Enter Sandman' is easily Metallica's longest-charting release on the Rock Digital Song Sales roster, it doesn't stand as the band's highest-peaking. Both 'Master of Puppets' and 'Lux Æterna' peaked at No. 2 in 2022. 'Enter Sandman,' meanwhile, stalled at No. 3 in 2021 and has yet to surge any higher. Metallica is one of just three acts on the 15-spot Rock Digital Song Sales chart at the moment that claims a more-than-100-week winner. 'Enter Sandman' joins 'The Sound of Silence' by Disturbed (329 weeks) and 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC, which this frame reaches 520 turns — exactly a decade — on the list. 'Enter Sandman' may be rising slightly on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, but that's actually the American tally where it performs the worst. It appears at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs roster, and the tune also dips slightly to No. 5 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list.

Disturbed's Career-Defining Hit Returns To Multiple Billboard Charts
Disturbed is still preoccupied with promoting its latest single, "I Will Not Break," but fans of the hard rock band aren't solely focused on that new release. As the group's most recent drop begins to decline on several Billboard charts, another familiar hit is making a somewhat surprising comeback. A cover that has come to define the outfit's career and commercial success is not only rising, but returning to multiple tallies at the same time in the United States, becoming a true bestseller across the board. "The Sound of Silence" — the Simon & Garfunkel classic that Disturbed reworked into a rock smash nearly a decade ago — reenters two Billboard tallies this frame. It breaks back onto the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart at No. 7 and finds its way to No. 9 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list after not appearing on either of those rankings at all last frame. The same tune can also be found on a third purchase-only tally. "The Sound of Silence" climbs from No. 7 to No. 3 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list. "The Sound of Silence" has previously topped all three sales charts in the past. If it can hold on for 10 more frames on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list, it will reach 500 stays. Disturbed's cut has spent the least amount of time among these three tallies on the Rock Digital Song Sales roster, where it's now up to 328 turns. The song is so popular that it even managed to cross over and become an electronic dance win well over a year ago, and still holding strong to this day. Producer Cyril remixed Disturbed's version of the composition, and it hit No. 1 on Billboard's Dance Digital Song Sales chart. After 68 weeks on that tally, it still holds at No. 3. Fans of Disturbed seem to be shifting their focus back to "The Sound of Silence" as "I Will Not Break" dips on most of the rankings on which it appears this frame. The current focus drops one spot to No. 5 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay list and down to No. 17 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs tally. At the same time, it holds in fifth place on the Mainstream Rock Airplay roster, where it recently dominated, adding to the group's list of champions.
