Diversified Royalty's (TSE:DIV) Dividend Will Be CA$0.0208
The board of Diversified Royalty Corp. (TSE:DIV) has announced that it will pay a dividend on the 30th of May, with investors receiving CA$0.0208 per share. This means the annual payment is 8.6% of the current stock price, which is above the average for the industry. This technology could replace computers: discover the 20 stocks are working to make quantum computing a reality. While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. Prior to this announcement, the company was paying out 152% of what it was earning and 90% of cash flows. This indicates that the company could be more focused on returning cash to shareholders than reinvesting to grow the business. Earnings per share is forecast to rise by 40.9% over the next year. If the dividend continues on its recent course, the payout ratio in 12 months could be 116%, which is a bit high and could start applying pressure to the balance sheet. View our latest analysis for Diversified Royalty The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from CA$0.188 total annually to CA$0.25. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 2.9% a year over that time. Dividends have grown relatively slowly, which is not great, but some investors may value the relative consistency of the dividend. Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Earnings have grown at around 4.2% a year for the past five years, which isn't massive but still better than seeing them shrink. The earnings growth is anaemic, and the company is paying out 152% of its profit. This gives limited room for the company to raise the dividend in the future. In summary, while it's good to see that the dividend hasn't been cut, we are a bit cautious about Diversified Royalty's payments, as there could be some issues with sustaining them into the future. In the past the payments have been stable, but we think the company is paying out too much for this to continue for the long term. This company is not in the top tier of income providing stocks. Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one.
