Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Indore-Ujjain divisions, which have so far remained largely dry this monsoon, are expected to receive a good spell of rainfall from July 13 onwards. Since the beginning of July, both Indore and Ujjain witnessed significantly below-average rainfall. In Indore, not a single day in the past nine recorded more than 7 mm of rain, and the total accumulation so far hasn't even crossed an inch. Despite the onset of the monsoon, the lack of strong showers left the region dependent on occasional light spells that did little to replenish water levels or boost agricultural activity. Indore recorded just 1.2 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours. In the absence of rainfall, the temperatures started to rise slightly in Indore. On Thursday, the day temperature stood at 29.5 degrees Celsius, which was a degree below normal, while the night temperature was 23.4 degrees Celsius, close to the seasonal average. The city remained partly cloudy on Thursday morning and afternoon, but no significant rain was recorded. According to senior meteorologist Dr Divya E. Surendran, three weather systems are currently active over the state: two troughs and a cyclonic circulation. A low-pressure area is also likely to develop in the coming days, contributing to the expected surge in rainfall. In view of these developments, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for July 13 in Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Dewas, Khandwa, Khargone, and Dhar, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain. A yellow alert was also issued for Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Agar Malwa, Shajapur, Neemuch, and Mandsaur. With July and August contributing nearly 50% of the seasonal rainfall, the expected showers are crucial for replenishing water reserves and supporting agriculture in the rain-starved Indore-Ujjain belt.

Indore: Indore experienced a humid and overcast Sunday with light, scattered rain providing only temporary relief amid the ongoing monsoon season . The city recorded 2.8 mm of rainfall during the day, while the day temperature rose slightly to 28.2 degrees Celsius—still 4°C below normal. The day temperature on Saturday dropped to 26.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature remained steady at 23.4 degrees Celsius. Though the skies remained largely overcast throughout the day, brief spells of sunlight occasionally broke through the clouds. Humidity levels peaked at 95% by 8:30 am and stood at 92% at 5:30 pm. Winds blew from the west-southwest direction at 17 km/h, contributing to the damp and sticky conditions. As of Sunday, Indore received 145.1 mm of seasonal rainfall—around 45 mm below the average for this time of year. According to Dr Divya E. Surendran, Senior Meteorologist at IMD Bhopal, three active weather systems are influencing the current conditions: two monsoon troughs and a cyclonic circulation over eastern India. "These are the strongest systems of the season so far, majorly impacting the eastern parts of MP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Rainfall activity over the Indore-Ujjain division is expected to intensify from July 8," she said, adding that the showers may weaken again by July 10. The synoptic situation includes a monsoon trough extending from northwest India to the Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, and an active trough line from the northeast Arabian Sea crossing central Madhya Pradesh. While heavy rain alerts are in place for parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh, areas like Indore may continue to see moderate rain and cloudy skies in the coming days. The IMD forecasts similar weather on Monday, with a possibility of increased rainfall as the systems move westward across the region.

Indore: After weeks of sweltering heat and sticky humidity, a fresh spell of monsoon rainfall transformed the weather in Indore on Thursday. Rain swept across the city from early morning, cooling the air, darkening the skies, and turning the weather refreshingly pleasant. For the first time this June, the city recorded just a one-degree Celsius difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. The maximum temperature plunged to 25.6 degrees Celsius—10 degrees below normal—while the minimum remained at 24.3 degrees Celsius, close to average levels. The city recorded 11.3 mm of rainfall over 24 hours, but more than the numbers, it was the feel of the day that stood out. The strong winds caused trees to fall in several parts of the city, while waterlogging due to continuous showers resulted in long traffic jams, especially in low-lying areas. Commuters faced difficulties as roads became slippery and congested, adding to the chaos during peak hours. On Wednesday, signs of change already started appearing. Clouds gathered post noon, and light showers followed by evening gave a teaser of the cool spell to come. The temperature then dipped to 31.4 degrees Celsius—4 degrees below normal. According to senior meteorologist Dr Divya E. Surendran, two low-pressure systems and three cyclonic circulations are currently active over the region, ensuring that this is just the beginning. A rainfall alert has been issued for the next four days, with parts of the state likely to receive 65 mm to 200 mm of rainfall in a single day. Currently in its third week, June has so far brought an average of around 127 mm of rainfall to Indore. Experts predict that rainfall activity will further increase over the next 12 days. Additionally, a weather system forming over Gujarat is expected to become active in Madhya Pradesh in the coming days. As a result, cloud cover and spells of light to moderate rain will likely continue, further marking the full arrival of monsoon in the region. In the wake of continued showers, popular tourist spots are springing back to life. Patalpani waterfall near Mhow came alive on Thursday, drawing excitement from tourists and locals alike, as dried-up streams and falls began flowing once more. Meanwhile, Ratlam recorded the highest rainfall in the region with 31.7 mm (1.25 inches), while Indore received around 11.8 mm (half an inch). Rain-related incidents were reported from several parts of the state on Thursday. Two landslides occurred on the Mhow-Mandleshwar road, where boulders rolled onto the road near Jam Gate and another point along the ghat section. No injuries were reported in these incidents.

Cloudy skies, winds & showers mark beginning of June in Indore

Indore: The city witnessed mixed weather conditions on Monday, with cloudy skies in the morning giving way to bright sunshine by the afternoon. In the evening, gusty winds swept through the city, accompanied by light drizzles in some eastern parts of Indore, offering brief relief from the humidity. According to the Regional Meteorological Department, Monday's day temperature settled at 35.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5 degrees below normal, while the night temperature dipped to 23.2 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees below the seasonal average. Senior meteorologist Dr Divya E. Surendran said that three cyclonic circulations and a western disturbance are currently active, influencing the weather across Madhya Pradesh. These systems may bring light rainfall and gusty winds to several districts, including Indore, over the next few days. However, the strong monsoon system from the Arabian Sea weakened and remains stalled over Maharashtra and Odisha. Until a new system develops, the region may only see intermittent light showers. "Temperatures remained below normal over the past few days. Although the active weather systems over the state are currently exerting limited influence, local convection is expected to trigger thunderstorms and gusty winds across most parts of the state over the next five days," Surendran added. Meteorologists added that heavy rainfall is unlikely in the first week of June. Skies will remain partly cloudy, providing some respite from harsh sunlight. Localised rain due to heat and humidity may occur, but widespread monsoon showers are not expected yet. June is known for its unpredictable weather, often showcasing the full spectrum—from intense heat to sudden cooling showers. Across the Indore-Ujjain division, temperatures remained below normal. Ujjain recorded 36°C and 24.5°C, Ratlam 34.2°C and 20.5°C, Khargone 37°C and 21.4°C, Khandwa 37.1°C and 22°C, and Dhar 35.1°C and 24.2°C for day and night, respectively. A weather warning has been issued for strong winds (40–50 kmph) in districts including Indore, Dhar, Ujjain, Ratlam, and Khargone, valid till 8:30 am on June 4. Residents are advised to stay alert as gusty conditions may continue.
