The real story behind John Cena's ‘You Can't See Me' – It started as a joke from his brother!
Image via WWE John Cena has been the definition of a generation face in WWE . His rise to superstardom began with the popular 'Doctor of Thuganomics' and later ascended to his Super Cena gimmick. Amidst this transition, Cena debuted the popular catchphrase, 'You Can't See Him,' where he would wave his hand in the face of his foe, which later became highly popular. The Never Seen 17 recently spilled the beans on the origins of his iconic words. John Cena's You Can't See Me catchphrase became iconic in WWE history During a segment on Do You Even Know Me? with Idris Elba , John Cena was asked about how his catchphrase started. When Elba guessed that Cena began doing it to be seen as an invisible man, Cena clarified that it was a dare from his brother. He was convinced that Cena would not do something that stupid on live television. He said, 'It was a dare from my little brother. You won't do that on TV. That's stupid. You look stupid.' So I did it — and here I am looking stupid every day.' Idris Elba and John Cena: The Ultimate Friendship Test | LADbible The 17-time World Champion eventually did it and added the popular words 'You Can't See Me.' CM Punk takes jab on John Cena reminiscent to AJ Lee's mockery on Nikki Bella
Image via WWE WWE Universe witnessed the last chapter in the storied rivalry of John Cena and CM Punk. It saw a recreation of their classic feud and throwback moments brought to life. One of them saw John Cena delivering a parody of Punk's infamous pipebomb. The Best in the World bounced back by impersonating Cena's popular 'Doctor of Thuganomics' gimmick. However, that brought back memories that related to the time Punk's real-life wife, AJ Lee, and Cena's ex-girlfriend, Nikki Bella , were feuding on WWE television programming. CM Punk's wife, AJ Lee, mocked John Cena's ex, Nikki Bella, years ago In 2014, AJ Lee was the reigning WWE Divas Champion and was embroiled in a feud with Nikki Bella. The duo was set to collide in a match on RAW. The Black Widow played mind games of her own by coming out dressed as The Fearless One, donning her outfit, and impersonating her mannerisms. Bella was visibly furious at witnessing a mockery made out of her personality. However, she did have the last laugh on AJ Lee when she defeated her in mere seconds at the Survivor Series pay-per-view to win the WWE Divas Championship and went on to set the record for the longest title reign in history. Years later, CM Punk borrowed a page from his now wife, AJ Lee's playbook and used it to mock Nikki Bella's ex-boyfriend, John Cena. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo On the SmackDown before the Night of Champions Premium Live Event, Punk came out dressed as The Doctor of Thuganomics. He laid a verbal rant on Cena in his classic rap style which left the 17-time WWE Champion speechless. However, much like Nikki Bella, Cena defeated AJ Lee's husband and retained the Undisputed WWE Championship at the 2025 Night of Champions PLE that took place on June 28 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was the last time they squared off inside the ring as John Cena is on his farewell tour and will retire from in-ring competition in December 2025. While Punk and AJ Lee did not have victorious ends, they created iconic moments at the expense of the former couple, John Cena and Nikki Bella, which will be etched in WWE history. CM Punk's 'Punkanomics' echoes these 3 savage John Cena parodies
Image via WWE CM Punk's infamous Pipebomb moment from 2011 was turned into a parody by John Cena on WWE SmackDown last week. The Best in the World retaliated in a similar fashion by donning Cena's popular 'Doctor of Thuganomics' and launching major verbal rap shots at The Cenation Leader. This came one night before they clashed for the final time with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line at Night of Champions. Punk recreating an important part of Cena's WWE career as a mockery was a sight to witness. However, he was not the first one to do so. Over the years, top names in the business, who had heated feuds with the 17-time WWE Champion, mocked him in a similar way that The Second City Saint did on SmackDown. Here is a look back at those three times WWE superstars delivered savage John Cena parodies: 3. Big Show John Cena's first major rivalry in WWE during the start of his rise as 'The Doctor of Thuganomics' was against then-WWE United States Champion, The Big Show. In the buildup to their match for the star-spangled prize at WrestleMania XX, the duo met on SmackDown in a rap battle where Show took aspects from Cena's rapper gimmick and went toe-to-toe with him. Cena won the battle and even defeated him at WrestleMania to win his first title in WWE. 2. Kurt Angle The first WWE superstar whom John Cena faced in the company was Kurt Angle in 2002. Sometime later, when Cena found his Doctor of Thuganomics persona, he found himself crossing paths with The Olympic Hero again. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo At one time during an in-ring confrontation, Angle decided to shut down the young rising star in his language by delivering a charismatic rap that left Cena speechless. The Rock WWE Raw 28/2/2011 The Rock Dwayne Johnson Rapping *HD* John Cena began a rivalry with The Rock following his return to WWE in 2011. The Champ rapped to The Great One after he berated Cena in his return promo. In response, The Rock appeared via satellite wearing Cena's cap, armbands, and rapping in a similar fashion. He did a few lines, but immediately took off all of Cena's artifacts to deliver a scratching rant in his own style, which became a memorable segment in WWE.
