Drunk driver ploughs into random breath-testing station on a main road
An alleged drunk driver has lost her licence after she bypassed flashing lights, traffic cones and police cars to plough into a random breath-testing station. Victoria Police had set up a breath-testing station on Ryrie Street, near the corner of Garden Street, in downtown Geelong in the early morning of June 18. The 33-year-old woman was driving on Ryrie Street at 1.25am when she allegedly drove her Dodge Journey wagon into the breath-testing station. "Despite traffic cones, multiple police vehicles with emergency beacons, and police members visible, the woman lost control and crashed into the rear of a stationary police vehicle," Victoria Police said. Her Dodge wagon and the police car "sustained major damage," but no one was physically injured in the crash, police said. The Clifton Springs woman was arrested after she returned a positive preliminary breath test. An evidentiary breath test returned an alleged reading of .150. The legal blood alcohol concentration limit for drivers in Australia is 0.05. She has lost her licence and is expected to face court over drink driving and traffic-related offences, police said.
