Cardi B hit with civil battery lawsuit following 2023 Las Vegas concert incident

Cardi B is being sued by an unidentified woman who claims she was attacked by the rapper with a microphone at a 2023 concert she attended. Image: Image:Instagram/@spicybardi Rapper Cardi B is facing a civil battery (common assault) lawsuit stemming from a July 2023 concert incident at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas. The lawsuit, filed by an Ohio woman identified in court records as Jane Doe, alleges that the US rapper threw her microphone into the crowd, striking her after she (Jane Doe) splashed a small amount of her drink toward the stage. According to 'People', the lawsuit claims that the 'Bodak Yellow' hitmaker seemed visibly overheated on stage and, while holding a mic, asked the audience to splash her with water. Doe claims she acted in response to Cardi B having encouraged fans earlier in the show to splash water on her to cool off. According to the court complaint, when Doe complied, Cardi B allegedly 'suddenly and forcefully' hurled the mic in her direction, causing a physical impact and emotional distress. Additionally, she is suing Drai's management group for negligence. According to the allegations, Cardi B acted in apparent anger and without warning, suddenly and forcefully throwing her microphone directly at Doe, which caused her to experience immediate fear of harm. After the incident, the woman reportedly filed a police report. However, the case was closed due to insufficient evidence, and no further action was taken at that time. Despite the Las Vegas police closing the criminal case due to insufficient evidence, Jane Doe is now pursuing civil action to hold Cardi B accountable. The lawsuit also notes that the microphone was later auctioned for nearly $100,000 (over R1.7 million), which Doe claims further worsened her emotional distress.

Biggie's Son Accused Of Helping Diddy Orchestrate Sexual Assault

Source: Jeffrey Mayer / Getty A new lawsuit filed over the Fourth of July holiday accuses Diddy of sexual assault and implicates CJ Wallace, son of the late rap legend Notorious B.I.G., as a willing participant in the setup. The plaintiff, identified only as John Doe, claims he was deceived into visiting a Revolt TV location in 2020 after being promised business opportunities. Transportation was allegedly arranged by Combs Corporations. Upon arrival, Doe says he was ambushed by a group of men, including Wallace, and forced into a separate room where Diddy was waiting. There, the lawsuit alleges Diddy attempted to force oral sex on Doe while shouting threats related to Doe's involvement with Bad Boy Records. The complaint paints Wallace as a key player in the alleged deception and assault, accusing him of acting as a 'henchman' in the scheme. John Doe is seeking damages from all named defendants. According to a recently filed lawsuit, John Doe alleges that during a 2020 incident involving Sean 'Diddy' Combs, members of the Combs Corporations (CC) team took a photograph of him during an alleged sexual assault. He claims the photo was intended to serve as humiliating evidence, possibly for blackmail or intimidation purposes. After managing to escape the room where the assault occurred, Doe says he returned to the vehicle that had brought him to the Revolt TV location. There, he encountered CJ Wallace, son of the late rapper Notorious B.I.G., along with entrepreneur Willie Mack and several other individuals. Doe claims that CJ, Mack, and the others had previously presented themselves as allies, promising him new business opportunities to make amends for his deteriorating relationship with Diddy. However, he now believes those promises were part of an elaborate setup designed to lure him into a vulnerable situation, which ultimately led to his alleged assault. The complaint describes the entire scheme as a calculated act of deception and betrayal by individuals he thought he could trust. As a result, Doe is pursuing legal action and seeking damages from all named defendants, including CJ Wallace, Mack, and others involved in the alleged conspiracy. Former CAA executive accused of trafficking by woman who says she was kept as a ‘sex slave'

An unnamed woman this week sued prominent British soccer agent Jonathan Barnett, accusing him of raping her and keeping her as a 'sex slave.' The woman alleged in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles that Barnett coerced her into becoming his 'sex slave' and used his company's resources to aid in his control over her. The woman, who was referred to in the lawsuit as 'Jane Doe,' also sued Hollywood talent firm Creative Artists Agency and sports agency CAA Stellar, where Barnett served as executive chairman. Barnett denied the allegations. 'The claims made in today's complaint against me have no basis in reality and are untrue,' Barnett said in a statement. 'We will vigorously defend this lawsuit through the appropriate legal process. I am looking forward to being entirely vindicated and exonerated.' CAA said it first learned of the woman's allegations through a press inquiry in 2024 and settlement demands from the woman's attorney. 'While the complaint attempts to connect these allegations to CAA's business, Ms. Doe has never been an employee, consultant, or contractor of CAA, ICM, or Stellar, nor has she ever had any business connection to CAA, ICM, or Stellar,' CAA said in its statement. 'CAA takes any allegations of this nature seriously.' Barnett exited Stellar in February 2024. The woman, who currently resides in Australia, said Barnett had initially promised her employment at CAA Stellar and paid for her to move her children from Australia to the United Kingdom as part of the employment package, according to the lawsuit. But after she moved to the U.K., she alleged she was 'trafficked, threatened, tortured, and held' in bondage in different locations throughout the world, including L.A., from 2017 to 2023, the lawsuit said. The woman was introduced to Barnett by a friend in the mid-1990s and then reconnected with Barnett in 2017 after he sent her a message on LinkedIn, the lawsuit said. After the two met for lunch in London in 2017, Barnett offered her an employment package that included payment for moving expenses, sponsorship of her and her two children's visas, school tuition for her children, housing and a starting salary of 4,000 pounds and a summer bonus, the lawsuit said. After she moved to London, Barnett asked to meet the woman at a hotel room, where Barnett allegedly told her that he 'owned' her and to call him 'my Master,' the lawsuit said. Then he ordered her to remove her clothes and later struck her down and raped her, according to the lawsuit. 'Realizing she was powerless against a dangerous predator, Ms. Doe submitted to Barnett in order to avoid being severely beaten or even killed,' the lawsuit said. The complaint alleged that Barnett referred to the woman as 'slave' as well as other demeaning words like 'dog' or 'whore,' and demanded she send videos of herself doing degrading acts, including drinking her own urine, licking the toilet with her mouth, eating her own feces and whipping herself as 'punishment.' The woman said Barnett punched, kicked, stomped on her fingers and whipped her, insisting she send him videos and photos of the wounds he inflicted to his company phone, the lawsuit said. 'To this day, Ms. Doe still has urinary tract infections, skin rashes, mouth ulcers, and bleeds from her vagina in an abnormal way as a result of Barnett's horrific and barbaric torture and abuse,' the lawsuit said. Barnett has been a leading figure in the sports representation business. In 2019, he ranked as No. 1 on Forbes' most powerful sports agent list. A year later, the magazine named him the world's top soccer agent, negotiating $1.42 billion in active contracts and transfer fees. He negotiated deals for boxers — clients have included the former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis — before launching Stellar Sports with co-founder David Manasseh in 1992. The two men represented cricket players and later signed prominent soccer athletes such as Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch. Stellar eventually became the world's largest soccer agency, with a roster of more than 800 athletes when it sold to talent agency ICM Partners in 2020. Now owned by CAA, the firm helped make CAA the most valuable sports agency on Forbes' 2022 list. Barnett had served as CAA Stellar's executive chairman until last year. The lawsuit alleged that CAA, which acquired ICM in June 2022 and other defendants 'turned a blind eye' to emails and other communications on company-owned devices and company-monitored accounts where he referred to her as 'slave' and told her to 'get back to work.' CAA Stellar's accounting firm BSG Valentine had guaranteed the apartment leases where he kept the woman and a Stellar assistant assisted Barnett in dropping off payments to the woman, the lawsuit said. During the workday, Stellar drivers would bring Barnett to where the woman was staying and wait for him while he beat and raped her, the lawsuit alleged. In 2020, Stellar was negotiating its sale to ICM Partners. In January, July and September of that year, Stellar wired payments to the woman worth 20,400 pounds, the lawsuit said. After Stellar was acquired, the company posted on its website a modern slavery statement that said ICM Stellar Sports is committed 'to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place anywhere within either our business,' the lawsuit said.

Liberian president killed in coup gets state funeral after 45 years

Liberia's former President William Tolbert is having a symbolic reburial, 45 years after he was murdered during a coup and his body believed to be dumped in a mass grave. Ten days after the president's killing, following trials by a kangaroo court, 13 of his cabinet were stripped, tied to stakes and then executed by a firing squad on a beach next to an army barracks in the capital, Monrovia. None of the 14 corpses has been found but each man is due to get a state funeral at a ceremony attended by President Joseph Boakai and other dignitaries. The event is seen as an act of reconciliation and part of a process of the country coming to terms with its violent recent past. The 12 April 1980 coup in which 28-year-old Sgt Samuel Doe took power ended well over a century of political dominance by the minority Americo-Liberians, the descendants of freed black slaves who had come from the US in the 1800s. Tolbert's nine-year presidency was marked by growing dissatisfaction with the ethnic inequalities. His overthrow came at the start of a period of instability in Liberia, culminating in two devastating civil wars, that finally ended in 2003. Doe himself met a violent death at the hands of rebels in 1990. His reburial in his home town last week was also ordered by the president. 'This is not just a burial; it is a moment of national reflection, a time to reconcile with our history, to heal from our wounds, and to remember with respect and purpose,' Boakai said at Doe's funeral. For the families of those executed in 1980, Tuesday's ceremony is both an act of remembrance and a way of bringing some respect to those who died. 'It has been 45 years and the pain is still fresh,' prominent lawyer Yvette Chesson-Gibson, daughter of executed Justice Minister Joseph Chesson, told the BBC. She emphasised that Tuesday's reburials will be the start of a long-term process. 'This is not just a ceremony, it is the beginning of a closure. Reconciliation is not an event,' she said. 'There are many facets to healing, but for us primarily this is just one of the many ways we continue to pay homage to deserving Liberian fallen heroes,' Bindu Dennis, the daughter of Tolbert's Foreign Minister Charles Cecil Dennis, said. 'Our fathers were simply murdered in one of the world's most despicable and inhumane public acts of brutality, violence and cruelty born out of an ugly spirit of greed for political power. 'As long as you understand that closure doesn't mean forgetting, then we're on the same page.' Until now, the 14 people executed in 1980 have been remembered by a tombstone, bearing all their names, where former presidents have paid their respects each year. However, when this was excavated earlier this year, no human remains were found so it is not clear what happened to them. Jarso Maley Jallah, the minister in charge of the reburial programme, told the BBC that 'there are some things that have happened in our country that we're not proud of, but yet we are Liberians, and we must come together to advance our nation'.
