Doechii Playfully Owns Her Met Gala 'Umbrella Moment' at Glastonbury
Source: Leon Neal / Getty At Glastonbury's West Holts stage on June 28, Doechii transformed the Met Gala's viral 'umbrella moment' into a display of empowerment and humor. Fresh off the buzz surrounding her dramatic Met Gala prep—where she famously yelled, 'I need four f‑king umbrellas!' to shield her outfit from paparazzi—she cheekily referenced the incident during a high-energy performance of 'Alter Ego.' Onstage, amid booming beats and dancers, she mimicked the gesture, recreating the umbrella shield in a tongue-in-cheek nod to her own viral moment. This playful callback came as Doechii was praised for delivering an educational yet electric set at Glastonbury. Reviews described it as a 'masterclass in hip‑hop' — part history lesson, part dance spectacle, weaving in tributes to Wu‑Tang Clan, Nas, Missy Elliott, and Daft Punk. Her 'school of hip‑hop' concept included thematic sections like 'Bars,' 'Flow,' and 'Storytelling.' During 'Alter Ego,' she used the umbrella gesture not only to disarm critics but to show how she transforms adversity into stage currency. The crowd roared as Doechii reclaimed the narrative. On social media, fans applauded the move as a sign of confidence and self-awareness. Critics noted that rather than shy away, Doechii leaned into the moment, signaling maturity and control. At the Met Gala, she later defended her actions as part of managing anxiety in a high‑pressure setting, explaining in a video post that the night was overstimulating and emotionally charged. 'God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,' she quipped, adding a laughing emoji to lighten the mood. In just her first Glastonbury headline appearance, Doechii not only showcased her rapid ascent in hip‑hop but also her ability to spin controversy into performance art—owning every umbrella, beat, and bar. Fred Again, Skepta, Plaqueboymax Debuted a New Song on Twitch
DJ-producer Fred again.., streamer-producer Plaqueboymax, and rapper Skepta have premiered their collaborative track 'Victory Lap.' The song, which was originally crafted on Twitch, was officially released on Fred Again's channel today. From a room in New York City, Fred played the catchy lyrics: 'Shorty get freelance, now she a free thot.' Doechii is heard rapping the chorus on the track, before Skepta comes onscreen to rap his verse with a microphone. More from Rolling Stone Meet AMP, the Brat Pack of the Streamer Era The Botez Sisters Are Already Chess Icons. Now They're Ready to Go Beyond the Board How Pokimane and Fuslie Made Themselves the Antidote to Online Negativity 'The first thing he said to me was there's no reloads,' joked Skepta, before adding, 'New York City. I could see the Statue of Liberty just over there.' Fred then mixed in another song as Skepta started rapping the lyrics to a different song, before mixing in 'Victory Lap' once again. 'This one is disgusting. Absolutely dirty!' declared Skepta. Along with the song, the trio announced a pop-up rave at the Brooklyn Paramount later tonight, which will also be livestreamed on Fred's Twitch channel. The pair then joked about hosting a mini meditation as relaxing music started to play. 'We absolutely love you, New York,' Fred said. 'Best place in the world.' This is just the latest Twitch-related spectacle for Plaqueboymax, the New Jersey streamer who has become a key cultural tastemaker for Gen Z. When Rolling Stone caught up with him in April, he had been in London for a weeklong stream that included an In The Booth session with Skepta. 'When Skepta came on, he's like, 'Oh, what's this? Why is it moving so fast?'' Max said. Tonight's rave comes nearly a year after Fred's first stadium show, which he talked to Rolling Stone about. He and his team were intent on bringing an intimate feel to a large space, which made the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum the right choice for him. 'I think the challenge to me at the Coliseum was I really wanted to find ways that I could connect as much as possible to people in this vast space,' Fred told music writer Jeff Ihaza last year. 'Which is why we did that thing — Lucy and I call it the moat — we built this thing all the way around that I could walk along. That meant I could walk to the different stages.'
