Now a new weekend bus service is being introduced to encourage more of the 600,000 annual visitors to Glenfinnan to leave their cars behind and travel a little more magically. And the bus line has a name inspired by the books, being called no. 9 ¾ - or 934. This is in a nod to Platform 9¾, the magical place Harry and his pals caught the Hogwarts Express when heading for school. According to those behind the bus journey, the service offers a 'spellbinding alternative to driving' with comfy seats and scenic views. The new timetable is part of a community-led effort aimed at helping plug a gap in public transport provision to the tiny village on the shores of Loch Shiel in Lochaber on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a pilot scheme to gauge public appetite for a motor-free day out and help relieve pressure on local car parks, which quickly fill up at this time of year, leading to hazardous kerbside parking and traffic congestion along the famous road to the Isles. The National Trust for Scotland (NTS), Glenfinnan Community Council, Glenfinnan Community Facilities Charitable Trust (SCIO), Glenfinnan Station Museum and HITRANS have each contributed to the cost of the buses. Local authority councillors have also backed the project by supporting an application to The Highland Council's Discretionary Budget, while local bus company, Shiel Buses, will operate the service. Glenfinnan businesses are also offering 'green rewards' as a thank you to those visitors who show them a valid bus or train ticket. Kate Forbes MSP commented: "Glenfinnan has become an iconic destination for visitors, with thousands of visitors every year. This has created pressures on local infrastructure, which I have been working to resolve with local residents. 'A few years ago, the community successfully built a much larger car park. However, this has quickly become too small. As such, I have been chairing a task force to identify solutions over the last few years. HOW TO GET THERE THE summer weekend bus service will run four times a day at the weekends, between Fort William and Glenfinnan, from now until September 7. It is just one of many train and bus services that travel to Glenfinnan seven days a week. Visitors will be able to get on the Glenfinnan weekend bus at Fort William bus station, Lochaber High School (free parking available at weekends), Kilmallie Hall in Corpach and Linnhe Caravan Park. Times for the new service, along with timetables and prices for all other buses and trains, can be found in the 'Guide to visiting Glenfinnan without a Car.' First look at Nick Frost as Hagrid on set of Harry Potter TV series as he strides past fast food restaurants to get the tube - and fans are already divided
Nick Frost was spotted striding past fast food restaurants as he filmed scenes as Hagrid for Harry Potter 's TV series this week. The actor and comedian, 53, was captured in full costume as shooting on the first season of the highly-anticipated adaption continues. Earlier this month bosses confirmed the show had gone into production with actor Dominic McLaughlin who plays Harry, posing with a clapperboard on set. A video posted to X, formerly Twitter, shows Nick as he sports long black locks as well as a bushy beard while playing the fan-favourite grounds keeper. Filming is believed to have taken place at Embankment in Central London, as Frost can be seen descending a staircase for the London Underground. Dominic was also spotted in the background of the clip, suggesting the pair had just filmed scenes together. However, the first look has left diehard Harry Potter fans divided as they flooded X with comments. One remarked: 'A bad version of Hagrid incoming and Nick playing well Nick.' A second said: 'Hagrid looks much better here than the original picture.' Meanwhile, a third fan posted: 'Thank God. I'm so happy that the character of Hagrid is doubling as a prosthetic/physical prop as well as the actor just like the original Hagrid was. The set photo of Nick Frost as Hagrid just looked really weird, but I am so glad that that is not going to be completely how he looks.' 'He is already struggling while walking in production of first season,' said a third. Robbie Coltrane, who died in 2022 at the age of 72, played the character in all eight of the original movies. A few differences from the films have already been spotted. It might feel like only yesterday that the Harry Potter films were released in cinema, but a reboot is already on the way. After the big casting announcements, production has begun on HBO's adaptation of the beloved children's books. Filming has started and pictures from the set have begun to emerge. Hungry fans looking for any details might have spotted some of the changes - including a shift in time period. Released between 2001 and 2011, the scenes set outside Hogwarts look more like the 2000s than the previous decade - Harry wearing a hoody in 2007's Order of the Phoenix for example. Early set pictures from the upcoming TV show seem to be channelling the 1990s much more. Period appropriate cars have been spotted as well, while the costumes snapped so far definitely feel more 90s appropriate. Both character designs looked extremely similar to their movie counterparts - give or take. However, the Dursleys on the other hand seem to have had a dramatic redesign for the show. Given it appears to be set in the 1990s, early set pictures show the new actors in costumes inspired by the fashion of the era. In the original films, the Dursleys had a more classic 'Middle England' look to them. But now Dudley is dressed in a shell suit, while Pertunia has a Princess Di-esque blonde hair-do. But there are some subtle changes, at least in the first image of Dominic McLaughlin released by HBO. In the photo, Harry's griffindor tie has been slightly tweaked and has a subtler hue of yellow compared to the original films which was more evenly split between red and yellow. The jumper is also a darker colour in the initial set picture, compared with the grey used for the movies. A brand-new television series of Harry Potter is on its way to take the audience on a magical ride to Hogwarts, filled with mystery and thrilling adventures. This upcoming rendition of J.K. Sharing the much-awaited news on social media, HBO Max wrote, 'First years, step forward," as they announced that production of the new series has begun after 24 years of releasing the first movie of the original film series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. HBO's Harry Potter series is going to be another adaptation of Rowling's popular fantasy series, which was first turned into a film series in 2001, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in lead roles. As per USA Today reports, the new television series is expected to be released over the next 10 years, which will allow the makers to deep dive into each of the iconic books. Rowling will be serving as an executive producer for the series. The author took to social media to announce her ties with the upcoming series. 'I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO 'Harry Potter' series, and they are so, so good," she wrote on X. Although HBO has not yet provided any dates for the premiere, Warner Bros.
