Mammootty's illustrious five-decade-long career now part of BA History syllabus at the Kochi college he studied in
Malayalam star Mammootty's five-decade-long contribution to cinema can now be studied as a course at a Kochi college. According to a report by OnManorama, Mammootty's career can be studied under the History of Malayalam Cinema module at Maharaja's College in Kerala. According to the report, students of BA History at Maharaja's College will study Mammotty's life, career, and influence on cinema. The chapter Sensing Celluloid: History of Malayalam Cinema explores his life and career in detail. Interestingly, Mammootty is also an alumnus of the college. Mohanlal, Sathyan, Prem Nazir, Madhu, Jayan, Sheela, Sharadha, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Padmarajan are also part of the chapter. The curriculum reportedly also honours regional icons who contributed to Kerala's cultural and social landscape. The syllabus will be implemented from the 2025-26 academic year. Recent work This year, Mammootty starred in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Malayalam debut, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, and debut director Deeno Dennis' action film Bazooka. He will soon play Cyanide Mohan in a film he's producing titled Kalamkaval, directed by Jithin K Jose. He also stars in a Mahesh Narayanan-directorial, which also stars Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara. He has yet to announce any other upcoming projects amid a health scare. Mohanlal prayed for Mammootty's well-being at Sabarimala in March this year, drawing the ire of some Muslim leaders. Mammootty's friend and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas spoke to Reporter TV in June and said, 'Mammootty is suffering from a minor health complication and is currently receiving treatment. He is okay, and I just had a phone conversation with him. Even though we have been friends for quite a long time, we were never the kind of people who talked much about our personal lives. However, in recent days, we have been sharing such details as well.'

After a much-delayed OTT release, it seems the movies might finally see the light of day. According to a report by Sakshi Post, the action thriller Bazooka will soon be released on the OTT platform ZEE5. While an official date hasn't been made yet, the platform is expected to have closed the final deal for the movie's rights. On the other hand, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse was initially announced to release on Amazon Prime Video. However, the mystery comedy thriller had an average run at the box office with no updates on OTT release for quite some time. Now, the same report suggests that ZEE5 has taken over the rights and will soon be releasing the Gautham Vasudev Menon directorial for streaming. For those unaware, Bazooka is a Malayalam language film written and directed by debutant Deeno Dennis. The cat-and-mouse chase and whether Aryan is indeed who he says to be form the main part of the movie. With the megastar in lead, the flick had Gautham Vasudev Menon, Divya Pillai, Sidharth Bharathan, Iswarya Menon, Shine Tom Chacko (cameo). Sumith Naval, Hakkim Shah, and many more in key roles. On the other hand, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, directed by GVM, focused on the tale of CI Dominic, a former corrupt police officer turned private detective. A wannabe Sherlock Holmes, the man comes across a simple case of a purse. Initially, disregarding it as being beneath him, he pursues the evidence along with his assistant but stumbles upon a rabbit hole of missing persons, murder, and a stalker concerning a classical dancer. The film had actors like Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhatt, Viji Venkatesh, Siddique, Vineeth, Vijay Babu, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, and many more in key roles. Coming to Mammootty's work front, the superstar will next be appearing in the crime thriller Kalamkaval. The movie helmed by debutant Jithin K Jose features the veteran actor as the main antagonist with Jailer fame Vinayakan playing the lead. The film is said to be based on serial killer Cyanide Mohan's life and is likely to be released on August 1, 2025.

Mammootty's father-in-law P S Abu passes away; aged 83
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Malayalam actor Mammootty 's father-in-law, P S Abu, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 11, at 9 AM due to age-related health issues. He was residing at Star Junction in Mattancherry and had been under treatment for some time. As reported by Kerala Kaumudi, a respected figure in his community, P.S Abu had previously served as the president of the Ilaya Kovilakam Mahallu. He was 83. A respected community leader Reportedly, P S Abu was widely known in the Mattancherry region, particularly for his tenure as the president of the Ilaya Kovilakam Mahallu. Throughout his life, P.S Abu had remained an active figure in local welfare and religious affairs and also he was the son of the late Sulaiman Sahib and Amina of Payattu Paramba House. Final rites to be held at Chembittapally Juma Masjid The funeral will take place later on this day (June 11), with his burial scheduled for 8 PM at Chembittapally Juma Masjid in Mattancherry.
