67hrs in a cage! Join Dominique in making a difference this Mandela Day

Mandela Day is around the corner, and Belly2Brain's founder, Dominique Tibbles, is preparing to be locked in a cage once again for 67 hours. Dominique will be doing this from July 15 to 18 to raise funds and feed 17 000 people. 'For many of us, a peanut butter and jam sandwich is a snack, but for others, it may be their only meal for the day,' she said last year. The initiative is called Change2Uncage, and she will be locked up at Cradlestone Mall's Entrance 5, and over the three days, there will be activities for residents, including: • Self-defence classes on July 16 • Paint night on July 17 • Mandela Day sandwich making on July 18 She is calling on the community to support this initiative, and they need as many hands as possible to help them prepare the sandwiches on the last day from 08:00. Plaint filed by wife vs Bacolod City solon scrapped

The Makati Prosecutor's Office has dismissed a complaint filed against Bacolod City Representative Alfredo Abelardo "Albee" Benitez on alleged violation to the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Law. According to the fiscal, the said complaint filed by Benitez' wife, Dominique, lacks evidence. In the complaint filed in April 2025, Benitez was accused of causing Dominique 'severe mental and emotional distress" for his alleged extra-marital affairs. In Benitez' post on his social media account, he said he seeks an end to the issue. Benitez also urged the public to respect the privacy of his family, especially his children.

Speeding Corvette driver convicted of vehicular manslaughter in S.F. head-on crash

The driver involved in a 2019 high-speed collision in the Bayview district that killed 50-year-old Lee Andrew Dominique Jr. was convicted Tuesday of vehicular manslaughter, according to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. Valentino Miles, 31, who is out of custody, faces sentencing Aug. 7. In October 2019, Miles's vehicle, a rented Chevrolet Corvette Z06, collided head-on with Dominique's car on Hunters Point Boulevard. The impact pushed Dominique's car back about 90 feet and caused the vehicle to roll over, leading to life sustaining injuries that ultimately resulted in Dominique's death. Trial evidence reveals that Miles had been driving at close to 140 miles per hour down Evans Avenue before he took a sharp right turn onto Hunters Point Boulevard that caused him to drive over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and collide with Dominique's car at about 76 miles per hour. 'The victim was leaving a dog park to meet his family for a Sunday afternoon picnic when his life was needlessly taken by Mr. Miles' egregious and reckless actions – turning Evans Avenue into his own personal racetrack,' said Assistant District Attorney Angela Roze, who prosecuted the case. 'I hope this conviction is able to bring some sense of closure and healing to the victim's family who have waited 6 long years for justice.' Local residents previously told the Chronicle that persistent sideshows, speeding vehicles and low-visibility intersections made the area's streets incredibly dangerous. At the time, some neighbors said that they had seen a yellow Corvette spinning donuts on the street to entertain a crowd of locals. 'Six years after this incident, we have made some progress and are better positioned to make our roads safer yet we still see far too much speeding and dangerous behavior on our roads,' said Jenkins. 'I hope this verdict brings the victim's family some closure and a sense of healing and sends a message to all that my office takes these cases seriously and will seek justice for as long as it takes.'

Runner tackles Comrades for charity

Among the thousands of athletes who competed at this year's Comrades Marathon was Richard le Roux, participating for his seventh time, all for a good cause. • Also read: Khosa Road Runners cross the finish line at the Comrades Dominique Tibbles, founder of Belly2Brain NPO, said that this year, Richard donned his running shoes and gave his heart and soul for a purpose – running to raise funds for the Belly2Brain annual Cage2Unchange Sandwich Day initiative, held from July 15 to 18 at Cradlestone Mall. During this time, I will be locked in a cage for 67 hours to raise funds for Belly2Brain, to feed 17 000 mouths on July 18,' she revealed. 'Richard became a Belly2Brain volunteer in August last year when we undertook a 5km silent walk against human trafficking. Richard and his son volunteered for the silent walk; since then, Richard and his wife have attended every Belly2Brain outreach, dedicating their time to support the cause – he even offered his 2025 Comrades achievement as a pay-per-km sponsorship for his run in aid of raising funds for the R104 000 budget to purchase the 2 500 loaves of bread, 500kg of peanut butter, and 1 000kg of jam,' she added. She confirmed that Richard successfully completed the race in 11 hours and 31 minutes, raising R11,400 towards the Cage2Unchange budget, which will cover half the bread required, marking a great start to the initiative. 'Belly2Brain is calling on all corporates who are required to fulfil their annual Corporate Social Investment (CSI) spend, as well as individuals, to partner with Belly2Brain and join in the noble effort of feeding 17 000 people this July. Belly2Brain is a registered S18A NPO. The beneficiaries who will collect sandwiches at the end of the spread on July 18 include Cradle of Hope, Hoërskool Nic Diedericks Feeding Programme, Wings of Inspiration, God's Love to Our World for Zandspruit, and Bethany House,' she said. Dominique concluded by urging volunteers to visit the cage between July 15 and 17 at Cradlestone Mall and to keep an eye on their social media pages to stay updated on events taking place around the cage, and to help spread the love on July 18 from 08:00 to 15:00. TikTok influencer in horror blast as backyard sauna explodes

Model Dominique Elissa had a 'crazy, traumatising, near-death experience' when she said she was nearly killed by an exploding sauna before hosting a wellness retreat in Australia A TikTok influencer has told how she nearly died in a horror explosion when a sauna at a wellness retreat exploded a day before she was due to host an event. Australian model and podcast host Dominique Elissa had the near death experience as she was planning a sauna sweat out during a peaceful break in a holiday home just outside Byron Bay. The influencer, 30, started up the warming process before going inside and preparing dinner, hoping it would reach her desired heat by the time she was finished. But, instead of enjoying a meal and preparing for the next day, she was subject to a "crazy, traumatising, near-death experience". ‌ ‌ She told her TikTok followers in a video that has now racked up 90,000 views that she turned on the sauna as she had done the night before, and was about to get her swimming costume on when she heard a "boom". Dominique explained: "I finish eating dinner and I'm about to put my swimmers on to go in the sauna, and I hear 'boom'. I look up and the entire sauna exploded." She added that the explosion was so powerful it ejected debris 10 to 15 metres into the air, and that she was left helpless while screaming for help. She said: "My phone was about to die, and I had no reception. I was screaming, 'Help, someone help me!' It was like a horror movie'. While she was eventually able to get hold of local authorities, they were unable to save the sauna. Dominique said the experience was the "most horrific thing", as she was just a few minutes from entering the sauna when it exploded and burned down. She said: "(It) burned to the ground. It was the most horrific thing to experience because I was only a few minutes from going into that sauna'. "I'm so grateful to be alive, so grateful to be here." Her shocked followers were quick to comment under her confession, with some likening the experience to a horror movie. One commenter said the events were "straight out of a Final Destination movie', and another added: "New fear unlocked." Another user chimed in saying they had never heard of anything like it, adding: "That is insane! This is the first time I've heard about a sauna exploding!!! They are so popular atm!" Other commenters were worried for their own safety, with saunas becoming increasingly trendy, especially in the wellness community. One follower said: "Noooo this is so scary, I just become obsessed with this trend."
