Louth man Tommy Donegan ran for Fine Gael in 1982 election
Tommy who was in his mid-sixties ran for the party in the November,1982 General Election in a bid to replace his famous father but just narrowly missed out.
Paddy or PS as was known served as a TD in Louth from 1961 to 1981. He died at 77 year of age in 2000. He also served as Minister for Fisheries.
Tommy never took the same interest in politics as his dad and pulled back from Fine Gael after failing to get elected.
He instead concentrated on running the family farm in Monasterboice which he did so successfully while his late parents and his sister Roseanne ran the family business, the hugely popular Donegan's Restaurant which is still flourishing today.
Tommy was a huge sports fan and followed the Irish soccer team all over the world and had lifelong memories from Italia 90 and the World Cup in the USA, four years later.
A large crowd attended his funeral mass at his local church in Tinure last Tuesday week, June 24.
Tommy is predeceased by his sister Annette and survived by sister Roseanne, his brother Vincent and children Leanne, Luke,Sam Tara and his beloved grand daughter Lily.
