Jalen Williams Had Doris Burke Message After NBA Finals

Jalen Williams Had Doris Burke Message After NBA Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oklahoma City Thunder just capped off their dominant season by defeating the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals. It was just their second-ever trip to the finals, the first coming in 2012 when their trio of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden fell to the LeBron James-led Miami Heat. Advertisement The Thunder were determined to make this trip to the Finals better than the last one, and they did just that. They finished the regular season third in offensive efficiency and first in defensive efficiency. It also helped that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the best player in the league this season and led the league in scoring. Alonzo Adams-Imagn ImagesAlonzo Adams-Imagn Images Jalen Williams had Doris Burke message after NBA Finals While Gilgeous-Alexander might be considered the "Batman" of their team and Jalen Williams the "Robin," there were games where it could have gone either way. In Game 5, with the series tied at two games apiece, Williams had a statement game, finishing with 40 points. Advertisement Following their NBA Finals win, Williams sent a message regarding ESPN's Doris Burke and her commentary on the finals after a viral video. "I gotta rewatch the games," Williams said in reaction to the video. "I was not aware she hated us." Burke is not a fan favorite among announcers. It's not uncommon to believe that certain announcers have biases with specific teams, but Burke has the rare talent that makes it seem like she hates both teams she's commentating on. During the Western Conference Finals, she received some flak when she called Gilgeous-Alexander a "free-throw merchant" in Game 1 of the series. Advertisement "'Oklahoma City fans took exception to that. They didn't like it,' Burke said via the New York Post. 'And usually, I can tell I feel like I'm doing a decent job when multiple fan bases are pissed off at me … at various times, Boston fans think I hate them, Knicks fans think I hate them, Sixers fans, and now Oklahoma City's like, 'why doesn't Doris like SGA?' I love SGA. Absolutely love him.' Burke isn't going away anytime soon, but it doesn't mean fans will come around and begin to like her, particularly the fanbases she mentioned in the above quote. ESPN's Mike Breen Breaks Silence on Doris Burke Reports

ESPN's Mike Breen Breaks Silence on Doris Burke Reports originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mike Breen, Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson will be on the call for ESPN when the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder take the court for Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night. Advertisement This Game 7 could mark the final time Breen and Burke share the broadcast booth. Prior to the start of this year's NBA championship series, sports media insider Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported that ESPN is considering a major change to its lead NBA broadcast team. ESPN reportedly plans to re-sign Jefferson, but Burke's future is in question. This is Breen's second season working alongside Burke in the NBA Finals broadcast booth. Last year, Breen and Burke called the championship series alongside now-former ESPN analyst JJ Redick. In a recent interview with Richard Deitsch of The Athletic, Breen was asked to address the reports of Burke's possible replacement. 'Right now, what I'm focused on and what I am thrilled at is with the growth we've had as a team,' Breen said. 'These Finals, I really feel like we've come so far. I don't know the exact amount or number of games we've done together, but it's not many. 'I don't think people understand how difficult it is to find that chemistry. It's hard in a two-person booth; it's harder in a three-person booth. I'm blown away by Doris and Richard and their work ethic and their care factor to get it right. I've had so much fun with them. Some of these Finals broadcasts have been far and away our best together, and we keep getting better. That's my thought going into Game 7.' Advertisement Game 7 of the NBA Finals will tipoff at 8 p.m. ET. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 22, 2025, where it first appeared.

Fans slam ESPN commentator Doris Burke after she 'ruined' Game 7 of the NBA Finals

ESPN commentator Doris Burke has been heavily criticized on social media for her analysis during Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Burke was behind the mic as the Oklahoma City Thunder managed to claim the franchise's second-ever championship with a 103-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers. She made up a three-person team in the booth alongside Mike Breen and Richard Jefferson. But fans quickly took to social media to vent their frustrations at her performance throughout the contest. One posted: 'When you're sad the NBA season is over but then realize you don't have to hear Richard Jefferson and Doris Burke ever again.' Another commented: 'Can we all just agree Doris Burke should never call another finals? I am so tired of it.' ESPN's Doris Burke has been slammed on social media for her analysis of the NBA Finals A third posted: 'Doris Burke is hands down the worst announcer in NBA history. Her voice ruins the Finals. 'It's Game 7, and we're stuck listening to a WNBA highlight reel in disguise. This isn't equality, it's punishment. Do better @ESPN'. 'Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson are the 2 worst commentators in sports history,' added another. The criticism kept coming, with another viewer added: 'Why does Doris Burke get airtime? Whatever opinion or take she has, she is always wrong. Not to mention her abhorrent voice and baseless confidence! It comes after reports emerged earlier this month that ESPN's top NBA broadcast booth could be reshuffled after just one season. According to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Burke is not guaranteed to be back with ESPN's top trio of announcers, while Jefferson has drawn some interest from Amazon Prime as the streaming giant gains domestic NBA media rights next season. Another change atop the ESPN depth chart would result in the third different grouping in as many seasons. Until 2024, the cable giant had featured the popular trio of play-by-play announcer Mike Breen, ex-coach Jeff Van Gundy and former player and coach Mark Jackson. But while Marchand reports that ESPN didn't order Van Gundy and Jackson's firings, he does say it was 'well known' the league was upset about the former's frequent criticism. ESPN replaced the two with Doc Rivers and JJ Redick, who went on to take coaching positions with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively. Enter Jefferson, a popular former player, and Burke, who had been on ESPN's No. 2 pairing with long-time play-by-play announcer Mark Jones.

Sports Fans Calling For Legendary ESPN Announcer To Retire

Sports Fans Calling For Legendary ESPN Announcer To Retire originally appeared on The Spun. Mike Breen has been the lead play-by-play commentator for ESPN's coverage of the NBA, making simply terms like "bang" his catchphrase. Though he's been great for decades, fans are starting to question if he's still the No. 1 option for the job. Advertisement Breen, 64, is calling the NBA Finals for the 20th time in his career. It's the first time he's calling the championship series with Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson. He spent so many years sharing the broadcast booth with Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. Even though Breen hasn't been that sharp this season, he's expected to return for the 2025-26 season. His broadcast partners, however, aren't guaranteed their spots. "While ESPN intends on re-signing Jefferson, it has not yet locked him up with his contract expiring, according to sources briefed on the talks," Andrew Marchand of The Athletic wrote. "Amazon Prime Video has expressed some interest in Jefferson, according to the same sources. Meanwhile, Burke's spot is not guaranteed for next season, according to sources familiar with ESPN's preliminary plans. While Breen, the Basketball Hall of Famer under a long-term deal, is not going anywhere, ESPN will evaluate its entire roster." Advertisement Fans really had an issue with Breen's call for Pascal Siakam's thunderous dunk over Jalen Williams. They thought it lacked the necessary enthusiasm for Game 6 of the NBA Finals. With that said, NBA fans are wondering if Breen should retire. "Mike Breen, it's time to retire or at least ask ESPN to upgrade your coworker," one fan said. Another fan wrote, "Mike breen literally doesn't care he needs to go retire." "Mike Breen it's time to leave the football before the football leaves you… someone get Kevin Harlan in there and let my man retire," a third fan said. Advertisement "One of the greatest plays in finals history ruined by Mike Breen's lack of enthusiasm," a social media user commented. Breen, a recipient of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Curt Gowdy Media Award, has not addressed all the noise regarding his future. Luckily for Breen, there's still time for him to silence his critics. Game 7 of the NBA Finals will take place on Sunday night. We'll see if Breen can end the season with an iconic performance.
