Sharon Stone has announced the death of her "hilarious, complex" mother, Dorothy Stone. Taking to Instagram on Monday, the Basic Instinct actress posted a photo showing her laughing while sitting next to her mum on a sofa. "My hilarious, complex mother died," she wrote in the caption, adding: "A product of the last depression, let's NOT do this again. Let's protect and care." In an obituary recently published in Montana newspaper Daily Inter Lake, Sharon and her siblings, Kelly and Michael, shared that Dorothy passed away "peacefully with her family and close friends by her side" at the age of 91 on 26 March. The former bookkeeper, who was born in 1933, was married to "true love" Joseph Stone from 1950 until his death "just shy of their 60th anniversary" in 2009. "Dorothy, 'Dot' to her friends, was known for her great humor, love of music, bingo, slots, gardening, socializing with her many friends and her creative style was evident in the way she created her home, garden & she was so proud of her eclectic and welcoming home (sic)," the obituary reads. Following the sad news, a number of Sharon's celebrity friends offered their condolences via Instagram. "So very sorry for your loss, Sharon. Sending love," wrote Allison Janney, while Viola Davis commented, "Sending love and blessings in abundance." And Melanie Griffith added: "Sorry for your loss Sharon. Sending you love!" A celebration of Dorothy's life will take place in Montana this summer.

Sharon Stone is mourning the loss of her mother Dorothy Stone, who died at age 91 in March. The acclaimed actress, 67, took to Instagram on Monday to announce the news, nearly four months after her mom passed away on March 26. She shared an undated photo showing her laughing at her mom's side on a deck overlooking a lush green mountains and wrote, 'My hilarious, complex mother died.' The Basic Instinct icon indirectly referenced the country's political state, adding that her mom was 'a product of the last depression. Sharon used a single American flag emoji and and urged her four million followers, 'Let's NOT do this again. Let's protect and care.' Sharon did not disclose her mother's cause of death. Notes of condolences poured in from fans and friends, including 82-year-old actress Holland Taylor, who wrote, 'Look at those eyes!!! I'm sure you will always see them, inside— love to you!' Another actress, Uzo Aduba offered, 'Oh. I'm so sorry for your loss, Sharon.' Gwyneth Paltrow simple added a broken heart emoji to the flood of messages. Stone shared a photo of her parents in May, but didn't explicitly mention her mom's passing. She captioned the post, 'These were They; The beautiful couple. On angels' wings.' In November 2021 the actress shared a single photo of her mom on Instagram and asked followers to 'say a prayer' after she had suffered an acute stroke. An obituary shared earlier this year on said the matriarch 'passed away peacefully with her family and close friends by her side.' Her mom's death comes nearly four years after the actress asked fans for prayers following an acute stroke The tribute also noted that Dorothy, known as Dot to friends, married Joseph Stone in 1950 and the couple welcomed four kids. Together they started a small tool & die business called Aggressive Forge, with Dorothy serving as bookkeeper. Stone's family has a history with strokes. Along with Sharon's mother, her grandmother and she herself have all suffered from strokes. It's led to the Hollywood fixture becoming an advocate for brain-aging diseases that disproportionally affect women. 'This is why I do it: My mother had a stroke. My grandmother had a stroke. I had a massive stroke — and a nine-day brain bleed,' Stone said at a 2019 benefit.
