There is safety in numbers when it comes Barrie's downtown core.
The Barrie Police Service is sending 17 additional officers to Barrie's busiest nightlife scene areas, offering both protection and a strong peace of mind to its guests.
The officers will be seen on foot, on bikes, in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV), as well as in marked cars.
This is an increase in police attendance to the area. Last year's pilot project had 10 extra staff on detail.
Under the name of the Downtown Engagement Team, police will focus on streets, waterfront trails, beaches, and surrounding parks.

Additionally, this year the Special Constables will also be making regular visits through several downtown public buildings including City Hall, the Barrie Public Library Downtown Branch, Meridian Place, and the Bus Terminal.
This initiative, known as the City Guardian program, was developed with the city of Barrie and will offer support in these public spaces downtown.
