Training on green energy from fish waste held in Muttam village
A hands-on training on producing electricity from discarded shrimp and fish shells was conducted in Muttam village by the College of Fisheries Engineering, a constituent college of the Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University Nagapattinam, under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme on Wednesday.
Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator M. Ramar explained that the shells can be turned into special tiles. When people walk on these tiles, they create pressure, which is then turned into electricity. This electricity can be stored and used for small things like charging mobile phones or lighting bulbs.
The training was part of a project titled 'Development of Piezoelectric Nano-Generator Energy Harvester from Crustacean Shells,' aiming to create local awareness and promote renewable energy practices. Over 60 people, including students, local youth, and panchayat officials, participated.
D. Kesavan, Assistant Professor, and S. Monikandon, Co-Principal Investigator from the college were also present.
