Dragon Boat Race Festival sees funds raised for Better Lives charity

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust's Dragon Boat Race Festival has seen thousands of pounds raised for the trust's Better Lives Charity. For the fourth year, staff and supporters competed in the race. Funds raised are set to support extra activities for patients and carers. The Care Trust raced three boats (one of which was sponsored by Coral Windows and Conservatories), and raised more than £5,000. Each dragon boat team had 16 paddlers, and a drummer to coordinate rhythm and timing. Teams raced 200 metres, from just beyond Saltaire's cricket pavilion to Roberts Park. Grand Opera House staff to swap stage for river in dragon boat race

Theatre staff in York are swapping the stage for the river with a charity dragon boat race. Grand Opera House staff will compete in the York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge on the River Ouse on Saturday, July 13. Kat Moir, theatre manager and team captain, said: "He's behind you! "That's what we want to be hearing on Sunday, July 13 when our dragon boat is soaring ahead!" The team will race in support of men's mental health charity Menfulness. Jack Woodhams, CEO of Menfulness, said: "We're absolutely delighted to have our friends and long-standing supporters at the Grand Opera House join us as charity partner for the Dragon Boat Race. "Every penny raised will go directly towards our support activities and free counselling services." The Grand Opera House team's theme for the event will be Cinderella, in a nod to an upcoming production in December, and their team name will be "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boat." Donations can be made at

Hospice issues call to businesses to sign up for Dragon Boat Race

A children's hospice is urging businesses to sign up for its next competitive team fundraising event. Forget Me Not Children's Hospice is asking businesses to enter teams into its Dragon Boat Race, which will be held in September. This follows the hospice's previous fundraiser, the Race Across West Yorkshire, which saw 20 teams of two from local businesses race around seven secret West Yorkshire checkpoints, taking on challenges and trying to navigate without their phones or their wallets - and raising more than £40,000. Georgia Lane, Forget Me Not's fundraising manager, said: "Our Dragon Boat Race is always a big hit. "Many of the businesses who attend tell us it's a highlight of the year for their staff, a great way to spend time together as a team while raising money for Forget Me Not, a charity that supports local children and families. "Because our amazing Race Across West Yorkshire filled up really quickly, some businesses missed the chance to get involved. "So the message for the Dragon Boat Race is book your team's place now so you don't, quite literally, miss the boat!" The Dragon Boat Race will take place at Pugneys Country Park.
