DJ Chark turning heads at Falcons camp
The paint isn't even dry on his new contract, but DJ Chark is already making noise in Atlanta. The Falcons shared a quick clip on social media showing the veteran wide receiver hauling in a clean over-the-shoulder grab during practice, adding a fire emoji and tagging the receiver like a proud hype man. A simple post sharing on (formerly Twitter) showing the support on the new signee of the team bringing excitement to fans of what he could be next to the already star studded receiving corps. With questions surrounding Atlanta's wide receiver room outside of Drake London, Chark's performance in camp could be one of the under-the-radar storylines worth watching. He's been a starter in this league. He's gone for 1,000 yards. And when healthy, he's still one of the fastest, most vertical threats in the league. The connection with rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. could be a key subplot heading into preseason. Whether he ends up as WR2 or a deep-threat specialist, Chark's ability to stretch the field adds another layer to a retooled Falcons offense. It's just one catch. One rep. One tweet. But for a team looking to bounce back and turn potential into production, moments like these are exactly how you start to build trust. Chark's heating up. The Falcons took notice. So should the rest of the league.

Michael Penix Jr. says Falcons offense should be 'unstoppable' in 2025
The Atlanta Falcons were the last team to open training camp for the 2025 NFL season, holding their first official practice on Thursday morning. After backing up Kirk Cousins in 2024, Michael Penix Jr. is going through his first camp as the team's starting quarterback. Penix has a humble demeanor and generally lets his play do the talking for him, but even he can't deny the Falcons are loaded on offense. With a top-10 offensive line and a full arsenal of weapons, Atlanta has a chance to be extremely productive this season. The team averaged 32 points per contest in the three games Penix started last season. When asked about the offense's potential, the former Washington Huskies star wasn't shy about his expectations for the unit in 2025. "The potential? We should be unstoppable," said Penix. "That's our goal. We want to be No. 1 in all categories." Penix's lofty goals aren't unrealistic. The Falcons have two budding stars in wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson. Both players finished top-five in yardage at their respective positions last season. Robinson's 1,456 rushing yards ranked third in the NFL, and London's 1,271 receiving yards were the fourth-highest total by a receiver in 2024. The one question mark is at the center position, where veteran backup Ryan Neuzil is set to replace Drew Dalman. Neuzil started eight games last season, though, and mostly held his own. When we spoke with Penix during the offseason, he expressed the utmost confidence in his new starting center. "He's going to ball man," Penix said of his expectations for Neuzil. "He's going to do a great job for us. He's a very smart player and he has what he needs to have to be able to be successful." Penix impressed fans at the team's opening training camp practice on Thursday, and the former No. 8 pick is determined to get the most out of this Falcons offense in 2025. Atlanta's next open practice is on Saturday at the team's Flowery Branch training facility. Falcons WR Darnell Mooney to miss time due to shoulder injury, per report
According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney is set to miss a few weeks due to a shoulder injury. Mooney went down during the team's first training camp practice on Thursday and did not return. The former Bears wideout had a stellar 2024 season in Atlanta, recording 992 receiving yards as the team's No. 2 option to Drake London. We'll have to wait and see if Mooney is given an injury designation by head coach Raheem Morris before Saturday's practice. The team is also expected to sign veteran DJ Chark Jr., according to a report from NFL Network. Chark could take Mooney's place for as long as he's out. The 28-year-old last played for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. In 2019, Chark topped 1,000 receiving yards for the Jaguars, leading to his first and only Pro Bowl appearance. He should be an adequate replacement for the time being. This article originally appeared on Falcons Wire: Atlanta Falcons: Darnell Mooney to miss a few weeks, per report
