‘Severance' star Tramell Tillman earns historic nomination
The post 'Severance' star Tramell Tillman earns historic nomination appeared first on ClutchPoints. Jackson State University alum and 'Severance' star Tramell Tillman has been nominated for an Emmy Award. Tillman is nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. If he wins, he will be the first Black actor to win in this category. Tillman portrays the stern and occasionally humorous Mr. Milchick in the Apple TV+ original series. He becomes a manager at the intriguing and dangerous Lumon Industries, which permits workers to split their brains, keeping their personal and professional memories and lives entirely apart, by implementing a novel and innovative practice known as severance. Earlier this year, 'Severance' paid homage to HBCU culture in its Season 2 finale. During the season, Tillman was contacted by the executive producer and director of the show regarding the marching band scene. Tillman said he used this scene to connect to his background as a two-time HBCU attendee. He studied pre-med at Xavier University of Louisiana prior to graduating from Jackson State. In an interview with TV Guide, Tillman discussed his time at Jackson State with the marching band. 'And the second [marching band performance] is a big nod to HBCU bands. I graduated from an HBCU, Jackson State University, and their band is the Sonic Boom of the South, the best marching band in the entire world. When I was a student at Jackson State University, I would marvel at the Boom, especially the agility and the endurance of the majorettes and the drum majors and the band as a whole. So this was my opportunity to live the fantasy of being a drum major at Jackson State University.' Tillman earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Jackson State in 2008. Years later, he graduated from the University of Tennessee with an MFA in acting. He spent more than ten years working in the charity sector before deciding to pursue acting full-time. Before securing his breakthrough role on 'Severance' in 2022, Tillman featured in a number of films, television series, and theatrical performances. This year, 'Severance' has 27 nominations in the Emmy awards. ‘The Pitt' Star Katherine LaNasa Confirmed for Season 2 While Celebrating Emmy Noms From Set With Noah Wyle
Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa celebrated their Emmy nominations together from 'The Pitt' set in a behind-the-scenes video posted Tuesday – and incidentally confirmed the return of the latter's character for Season 2 in the process. Wyle was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and LaNasa got her nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category. In the video, shared on Instagram by a crew member and seen below via X, the two hug while soaking up applause from their colleagues in the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Apparently taking a break from filming Season 2, the excitement is palpable from everyone on set. The Max series was also nominated for Best Drama Series. LaNasa being on set and in costume should quell any concerns fans of the first season had about LaNasa's return. Her character Dana Evans seemed set to quit the hospital after the harrowing events of Season 1 – including a mass shooting that filled the hospital with critical patients. She even played coy when asked whether she would be back for Season 2 in May. 'I think she would probably just spend it at home with her family,' LaNasa told Gold Derby. 'I think she needs a big decompression. I think she just really needs a lot of time to probably process and decompress. Probably needs some therapy.' HBO Max did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment on LaNasa's return. 'The Pitt' takes place over a single shift at PTMC. It was announced following Season 1 that the second season of the show would take place on the Fourth of July. If the first season revolving around the annual PittFest ended explosively as it did, things will likely get even more intense for the residence and interns of The Pitt in it's sophomore outing. ‘Paradise' surprises again! How the drama shocked the Emmys
Even as a show known for its twists, Paradise still managed to pull off a few surprises on Emmy nominations morning. The Hulu series secured four nominations total, all in major categories. The first season of the show from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman was nominated for Best Drama Series, Drama Actor for its lead Sterling K. Brown, Drama Supporting Actor for James Marsden, and Drama Supporting Actress for Julianne Nicholson (a double nominee today). This morning, Paradise was sitting at No. 9 in the Best Drama Series predictions, just outside the range of nominations. It ultimately snuck into the category when the sixth-ranked show, Squid Game, failed to make the cut. The upsets were even more extreme in Marsden's and Nicholson's categories. Both the supporting actor and supporting actress were sitting at No. 18 in their respective categories. Nicholson made it into the nominees list over favored contenders like The Diplomat's Allison Janney, The White Lotus' Leslie Bibb, and The Last of Us' Isabel Merced. Marsden made a similar leap in Best Supporting Actor. His nomination came over more highly predicted performers like Slow Horses' Jack Lowden, Squid Game's Choi Seung-hyun, and The White Lotus' Patrick Schwarzenegger. On the other hand, Gold Derby voters nailed the lineup for Best Drama Actor, going five for five with their predictions. Brown was nominated alongside Severance's Adam Scott, The Pitt's Noah Wyle, Slow Horses' Gary Oldman, and The Last of Us' Pedro Pascal. ‘The White Lotus' star Jason Isaacs reacts to Emmy nomination and shuts up the haters: ‘Luckily they were outvoted'
It's been a few hours and The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs still hasn't digested the fact that he's an Emmy nominee. 'It's bewildering,' Isaacs tells Gold Derby. 'It's slightly surreal and lovely, and lovely that so many other The White Lotus people are in the same boat with me because obviously the common denominator is [creator and director] Mike White's brilliant writing. It's why we've all been noticed.' The nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series is a career-first for Isaacs, who plays wealthy Southerner Timothy Ratliff on the HBO hit's buzzy third season. As a businessman whose shady dealings are catching up to him, Isaacs' Timothy goes on an turmoil-fueled inner journey and (just barely) makes it out alive. 'It's what you want as an actor,' Isaacs says. 'You want a challenge, and I guess if I'm really honest I was scared. I was kind of terrified to take the job, because [the role] didn't have any words. It was mostly silent. He was suicidal and homicidal, and then broken-hearted, and he had this gigantic spiritual journey. It's all the stuff you want as an actor.' 'Nobody buys a ticket to watch The Village of the Happy People,' Isaacs jokes. 'Drama is always about people in extraordinary situations, but other people had more naturalistic storylines and I had this very melodramatic thing to carry off. But I felt like I was in safe hands because all of Mike White's shows come out great, and he's not only a wonderful writer but a wonderful director as well. I felt like he was going to catch me if I fell.' Isaacs credits White largely for his Emmys recognition. 'The thing about the Emmys is it's your peers, it's your colleagues, it's other people who I respect so much,' he said. 'I feel like what they're noticing, and I'm not arrogant enough to think it's anything to do with me, is that it's an award for the luckiest bastard in show business. 'Whichever one of us goes up onstage, really, I feel like it's a big ensemble show and the acknowledgement is an acknowledgement that there aren't many shows where people depict characters in the full nuance of their three-dimensional human behavior. When you get great writing and great people to collaborate with, you look better as an actor, and you end up with people giving you praise and acknowledging you and maybe nominating you or giving you awards. I'm utterly vulnerable. … On the set, in character, I went to Hell as much as you can imaginatively. … I can't pretend it's not nice to get a bit of praise or flattery. ‘The White Lotus' Racks Up 23 Emmy Noms, With First-Time Nominees Scott Glenn, Jason Isaacs & Aimee Lou Wood
While The White Lotus didn't sweep the Supporting Actor/Actresses in a Drama Series category, as was at times predicted, the HBO powerhouse did match its Season 2 Emmy nomination tally with 23 this year, bringing its to-date total to 66 with 15 overall wins — with more potentially in store at the ceremony to be held Sept. 14. Once again nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, performers Jason Isaacs, Scott Glenn and Aimee Lou Wood scored their first-ever Emmy nominations this year. They, along with Wood, face one performer each from Paradise (Julianne Nicholson, also nominated for her guest comedy role in Hacks), The Pitt (Katherine LaNasa, a first-time nominee) and Severance (Patricia Arquette). In the Supporting Actor category, the noms were equally balanced between Severance and The White Lotus, with three apiece: In addition to Isaacs, Walton Goggins and Sam Rockwell were nominated. Glenn was honored in the Guest Actor in a Drama category. Though Rockwell is not in the main cast, he appears in 50% or more of the show, which explains both his and Glenn's appearance in their respective categories. Potential snubs include Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Schwarzenegger. In 2022, the first year the anthology dramedy was nominated, it received 20 noms. Of those, three were in the Supporting Actor category, with Murray Bartlett, Jake Lacy and Steve Zahn competing against one another. Meanwhile, the Supporting Actress category boasted the inclusion of Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Sydney Sweeney and Rothwell — almost sweeping the category save for two nominations for Dopesick actors Kaitlyn Dever and Mare Winningham. The following year, it topped itself by three nominations; in the Supporting Actor category it was Succession versus The White Lotus, with the latter series' stars F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Theo James and Will Sharpe scoring noms. The White Lotus repeated its five noms in the Supporting Actress category, with another placement for Coolidge (who won) and nominations for Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore and Simona Tabasco. Notably, the series was not nominated last year due to production delays as a result of the dual Hollywood strikes, which pushed back the premiere date for Season 3. It's worth noting that the Mike White-created satire moved from the Limited Series category to the Drama classification following its inaugural season. In Season 3, the ultra-rich — as exemplified by a trio of reuniting gal pals, a family and its trio of young adult siblings, and an age-gap couple — take to a premier wellness resort in Thailand to escape (for better and for worse) the fraught realities of their daily life. The White Lotus was also not the program with the most noms this year, matching The Studio and coming in tied for third after The Penguin (24 nominations) and Severance (27).
