Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurates renovated Francis Library building
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday inaugurated the rebuilt Francis Library at Varaganeri, a public library that had remained in disuse for more than a decade. The facility has been constructed at a cost of ₹26.60 lakh by the Tiruchi City Corporation. The old building, located in Ward 30 of Zone 2, was demolished to make way for a modern structure. The original Francis Library was established in 1952 by Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar E.V. Ramasamy in honour of Francis, a prominent leader from Varaganeri and then DK District Secretary. The library was inaugurated during Francis's lifetime, in recognition of his close association with Periyar and his contributions to the Dravidian movement. Over the decades, the structure fell into disrepair, eventually becoming unusable. A few years ago, the Tiruchi City Corporation took over the building and undertook its restoration. Ministers K.N. Nehru (Municipal Administration) and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi (School Education) were present. Official sources from the corporation said the new library would accommodate up to 15 readers at a time and was equipped with a range of resources, including newspapers, children's literature, books on science and the arts, and materials for competitive exam preparation. A dedicated library staff member had been appointed to assist visitors. District Collector V. Saravanan, Tiruchi East MLA Inigo S. Irudhayaraj, Deputy Mayor G. Divya, and Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan were present.

Vaiko condemns video critical of Periyar, Anna
MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday said the views expressed and the videos screened at the Muruga Bhakthargal Conference in Madurai against Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai were condemnable. 'The leaders of the AIADMK, who run a party in the name of Anna, remained mute spectators. This is unjustifiable,' Mr. Vaiko said in a statement. Reiterating that the people of Tamil Nadu would not allow the mixing of politics with religion, he said the BJP could not make a mark in the 2021 Assembly polls even though the party had organised a Murugan conference (Vetri Vel Yatra) at that time. 'Murugan, the Tamil god, has festivals throughout the year. People celebrate festivals such as Thai Poosam, Visakam, Soorasamharam, and Skanda Shasti. The attempt made by the BJP to create an impression that Murugan worship is in danger will be rejected by the people of Tamil Nadu,' he said.

Stalin warns against anti-science events
Chennai: Giving educational institutions two agendas a scientific approach and social justice chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday said the govt reaction would be severe if any event against them is conducted in schools and colleges. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At a function held to felicitate the govt for winning the case against the governor in Supreme Court, Stalin called the Governor's post a 'good for nothing rubber stamp post', On TN's decision to approach Supreme Court for assent to 10 bills empowering state to appoint vice-chancellors to state universities, he said, "The colleges are situated on govt land, the govt is paying the salaries of teachers, and the facilities have been provided by the govt. But, the vice-chancellor can be appointed only by the Governor. How is it fair? That's why we decided to approach the court." "Vice-president Jagdeep Dhankar said Parliament has more powers. We are also saying the same. Assembly has more powers than the Governor. We are not in a power struggle with the Governor. We do not have any personal grievance. If someone else comes as a governor and does the same, we will still oppose him. We will not give up our rights at any time." "I have been telling that education is the only wealth that cannot be stolen. I will say it again a hundred times. Because the union govt is bringing newer schemes such as NEP and Viswakarma scheme. Social media is giving wrong advice to the children. Please do not look for your role models on social media ... Whatever the obstacles, we will clear them and continue to educate. It is our duty," Stalin said. At the event where Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani, TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, ministers Duraimurugan, Govi Chezhiaan, and others took part, Stalin was praised for the verdict.
