Glastonbury 2025 star admits lifetime Sainsbury's ban for shoplifting

Pop star PinkPantheress has revealed that she was banned from all Sainsbury's stores nationwide as a teenager after her friend stole a Drumstick lolly Rising pop star and Glastonbury favourite PinkPantheress has revealed she's been banned from every Sainsbury's store in the UK over an incident involving a stolen Drumstick lolly when she was younger. In a new interview with GQ, the 23-year-old singer, whose real name Victoria Beverley Walker, reflected on the surprising moment from her teenage years, which has haunted her ever since. 'My friend stole a Drumstick from Sainsbury's, but that actually is illegal,' she explained. 'I remember thinking to myself like, and we got banned, and we really went through it. I got banned, but I didn't steal anything.' ‌ Although she insists she wasn't the one who took anything, she still received the same punishment: 'Given our age at the time, one Drumstick resulting in a ban, it's a bit much. Because we were banned from all Sainsbury's across the country.' ‌ The candid confession came as she promoted her latest single, Illegal - a tongue-in-cheek coincidence which has not got lost on fans. PinkPantheress is currently enjoying a career high following her breakout Glastonbury performance on the Woodsies stage. Her Friday night set was met with glowing praise online, with festivalgoers describing it as one of the standout moments of the weekend. ‌ One fan posted: 'PinkPantheress is brilliant. Don't think you'll see a crowd enjoy themselves more this weekend.' Another added: 'Genuinely never heard of PinkPantheress but wow, she's an unreal artist.' A third wrote: 'PinkPantheress's stage presence has improved so much - I love this for her.' However, her time at the festival wasn't without hiccups. A planned intimate set the day before the festival officially began was cancelled at short notice, leaving some fans disappointed. ‌ Speculation initially swirled around crowd control concerns, but organisers quickly clarified the reason. A Glastonbury spokesperson said: 'This change was absolutely not as a result of overcrowding fears, the artist was simply no longer able to make this performance. But she is still playing her Woodsies set.' Since rising to fame through viral success on TikTok, PinkPantheress has quickly carved out a spot as one of the UK's most exciting new pop voices. With a distinct, genre-blending sound and a growing fanbase of over 2.7 million Instagram followers, she has already earned three Brit Award nominations and landed both singles and albums in the UK Top 10. Her new single Illegal arrives as she continues to ride a wave of momentum and with stories like her Sainsbury's ban now out in the open, it seems PinkPantheress is more than willing to keep things real as her music career continues to blossom.

British popstar hot off her Glastonbury gig reveals she was once BANNED from all Sainsbury's stores across the UK over shoplifting

Brit popstar PinkPantheress has revealed she was once banned from all Sainsbury's stores across the UK for shoplifting. The singer-songwriter, 24 - whose real name Victoria Beverley Walker - wowed crowds at Glastonbury just last month. But while promoting her new single Illegal, PinkPantheress revealed that she received a blanket ban from entering any Sainsbury's shops as a youngster. Speaking to GQ, she spoke about how her friend once stole a Drumstick lollipop from a Sainsbury's store and both herself and her friend were banned as a result. The star said she did not steal anything but was banned anyway, and thought that a whole-country ban for just taking a Drumstick was 'a bit much'. 'My friend stole a Drumstick from Sainsbury's, but that actually is illegal,' PinkPantheress said. 'But I remember thinking to myself like – and we got banned – and we really went through it. I got banned, but I didn't steal anything. 'I remember thinking like given our age at the time, one Drumstick resulting in a ban, it's a bit much. Because we were banned from all Sainsbury's across the country.' It comes after PinkPantheress's intimate Glastonbury gig was cancelled and she was moved to a larger stage. PinkPantheress was scheduled to play a 30 minute slot on the Levels stage in Silver Hayes at 11pm on the Thursday. But a major change in the set schedule saw Roza Terenzi instead play 10.30pm to midnight, in between a Confidence Man DJ set and Marie Davidson. Fans of PinkPantheress were not left disappointed however, as she instead graced the Woodies Stage at 7.30pm on Friday. Taking to Reddit, eagled-eyed fans welcomed the decision at the time as they believed the star was too popular for the original schedule as they said it would have been 'rammed'. They wrote: 'Was going to be dangerously rammed,'; 'Could have seen that coming, why even book it then,'; 'Probably for the best, having anything remotely popular on the stage (especially on Thursday) is always a recipe for disaster,'; 'Yeah everyone knew it would be carnage from the moment it was announced.' A spokesman for Glastonbury told the Sun: 'This change was absolutely not as a result of overcrowding fears, the artist was simply no longer able to make this performance. 'But she is still playing her Woodsies set.' Pink Pantheress found fame on TikTok and has had a top 10 in the UK singles and album charts, respectively, as well as being nominated for three Brit Awards. She is the daughter of a statistics professor and a Kenyan-born civil servant, and was born in Bath in 2001, where her father Stephen worked in the maths department at the city's university. One well-connected diplomat described the singer as 'posh' in 2022. Along with her mother Elza and older brother Christopher, the family moved to Kent in 2010, where home was a £500,000 townhouse in Canterbury. Pink Pantheress found fame on TikTok and has had a top 10 in the UK singles and album charts, respectively, as well as being nominated for three Brit Awards (Seen in 2024) She attended the selective and high-achieving Barton Court Grammar School, during which time she says she stacked shelves at the Co-op supermarket. Her showbusiness career began at the age of 12, when she danced in a school production of Bugsy Malone, but music was her passion and she began to write songs in her bedroom and plan her unorthodox approach to her career. Her stage name was coined after watching the ITV quiz show The Chase, where host Bradley Walsh asked a contestant what a female panther was called. She said the answer – pantheress – was to be her name, but after realising there was already a person using that online, she put 'pink' before it.

Glastonbury performer reveals she's banned from all locations of major supermark

PinkPantheress is fast becoming a Gen-Z British icon, with an unending stream of side quests keeping fans enraptured by the Glastonbury star. Her social media presence is full of chaotic updates and viral songs such as Break It Off, propelling her to Worthy Farm fame. Keeping fans on their toes, after dropping hit song Illegal, she decided to take part (and win) a chess tournament before confessing she's banned from Sainsbury's. That's right, whether it's a small top-up or a big shop, PinkPantheress, 24, won't be heading to those familiar orange signs. She told GQ that the ban was imposed after she was a witness – or maybe accomplice – to her friend stealing a drumstick lolly. 'What is some legal behaviour that feels illegal?' the interviewer asked the Just For Me singer, whose real name is Victoria Beverley Walker, in reference to a TikTok trend inspired by her song. The star answered: 'My friend stole a Drumstick from Sainsbury's, but that actually is illegal. But I remember thinking to myself like – and we got banned – and we really went through it. 'I got banned, but I didn't steal anything. I remember thinking like given our age at the time, one Drumstick resulting in a ban, it's a bit much. Because we were banned from all Sainsbury's across the country.' It's unclear if this is a lifelong ban, so maybe she could try her luck for a quick meal deal but other supermarkets are probably a safer choice. A Sainsbury's spokesperson told The Tab they are unable to verify if the ban is still in place – or if it ever happened at all – so it's worth a try. While this latest criminal lore drop is shocking, those who have been following her journey know it is hardly surprising. The Pain singer previously went viral for correctly naming a ridiculous number of niche bugs on TikTok, because why not? Before that, she was filmed turning people away from her home while in her dressing gown – no context given, of course. She revealed to Pitchfork previously that her address was leaked after flyers for her birthday party got out, although it's thought this was a different incident of randomers knocking on her door. Most recently, Victoria shared that she had done her 'biiiiiiig onneeee' of competing in an under 25s chess tournament and taking home the trophy. She added: 'I don't mention the chess lineage that runs in my family enough girl.' @anthpo #bugs #cool #pinkpantheress ♬ original sound – Anthony Po Her aunt is Susan Lalic, one of the UK's most accomplished chess players, having held the Woman's Grandmaster and the International Master titles. More Trending Dominating women's chess in the 80s and 90s, Susan has five national titles and represented England at nine Chess Olympiads with a rating of 2405 at her peak. So, as the niece of a woman who was once rated higher than 99.9% of players in the world and now spends her time coaching juniors, it's no surprise that Victoria smashed the competition. No doubt, PinkPantheress' antics will continue over the summer now she's wrapped her string of shows, before she returns to the O2 Academy, Brixton in September. After that the Boy's a liar hitmaker is heading out to the US and Canada on tour, with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Brooklyn. Got a story?
