PS5 Beta Update Brings Simultaneous DualSense Controller Pairing to Multiple Devices

A system update for those in the PS5 beta program will enable a new feature for the DualSense or DualSense Edge controller, allowing it to be paired with multiple devices at the same time and quickly switch between them. Beta participants will get access to the new feature on Friday. The DualSense controller can be connected to several devices via Bluetooth that aren't the PS5, including computers (PC, Mac), and mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. However, you can only connect to one of these devices at the same time. The system update removes this limitation. Currently, the PS5 beta program is limited to the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany and France, but Sony plans to roll out the feature globally in the future. Connect your DualSense controller to up to 4 devices simultaneously Once the update goes live, you'll be able to pair your DualSense or DualSense Edge controller to up to four devices at the same time. Once all of the devices are paired, you'll be able to switch between them with a simple button combination. Here's how to pair your DualSense controller to multiple devices Once the update is live and the feature is enabled for you, this is how you can connect your controller to multiple devices at the same time: Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your DualSense controller is off. Press and hold the PS button for 5 seconds or more to turn them off. Press and hold one of the action buttons (circle, triangle, square or cross) until the light bar and player indicator flash twice. Turn on Bluetooth on the device you wish to connect your controller to and go to add a new Bluetooth device. Select the controller from the Bluetooth menu. The light bar and player indicator's lights will blink according to the slot number (1-4). How to switch between devices using your DualSense controller Switching between the devices you've connected your controller to is fairly straightforward once you understand the basic button configuration. Make sure the device you're trying to switch to is turned on. Hold the PS button and the action button associated with the device you're trying to switch to for 3 seconds. Once connected, the light bar and player indicator lights will flash according to the slot number. Here's an example chart of what that will look like from the Playstation Blog: Slot number Button used Player indicator lights Connected Device (Example)** Slot 1 PS button and Triangle button One light on PS5 Slot 2 PS button and Circle button Two lights on PS5 Pro Slot 3 PS button and Cross button Three lights on Windows PC Slot 4 PS button and Square button Four lights on iPhone If you have issues pairing, you'll need to make sure that your device is compatible with the DualSense controller via Bluetooth. Sony is finally making it possible to pair a DualSense with more than one device

Sony is bringing a welcome quality-of-life feature to the PlayStation 5. In the next PS5 system update beta, players will be able to have their DualSense controllers synced with multiple hardware platforms at the same time. That means you could swap a controller from a PS5 to your gaming PC to your smartphone without needing to re-pair the DualSense each time. Up to four devices can be simultaneously paired with a single controller, and each of them will be mapped to one of the action buttons. To switch between them, first make sure the hardware you want to start using is on, then press the controller's PS button and the corresponding action button at the same time. Hold for three seconds, and when you see blinking on the controller's light bar, release both buttons. It's the sort of change that may not carry weight for all players. But for those of us who do like to hop between platforms, this is very exciting news. The current beta access is limited to an invite-only guest list, but Sony said it plans to roll out the feature globally "in the coming months."

Your PS5 controller is about to get way easier to use on Android, iPhone, PC, and more

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR An upcoming PlayStation 5 system update will let DualSense controllers pair with multiple devices simultaneously. Users can soon register up to four devices at once and switch between them using the PS and action button combination. This feature will eliminate the pain of constantly re-pairing the controller when switching between console, Android phones, PCs, and more. Android flagships are great for mobile gaming, but many of us have long sprung for a PlayStation 5 for longer gaming sessions on the TV from the comfort of our couch. You could take the mobile gaming experience a step further by connecting your PS5 DualSense controller to your phone, but doing so is a bit of a pain that puts off most people. Sony knows this, and it's solving the issue by opening up the ability to pair the PS5 DualSense controller with multiple devices simultaneously. Sony has announced that the latest PS5 system update beta will preview a new feature that allows the PS5 controller to be paired across multiple devices simultaneously. You don't need to sign up for the beta for the feature, as Sony plans to release the update globally in the coming months anyway, so wait a while to get the extended functionality. Currently, users have to freshly pair their controller with their device every time they switch platforms, so going from your console to your phone, PC, Mac, and back will require a fresh pairing at each step. As you can imagine, that's quite some royal pain, and it's one of the reasons why I personally avoid using my controller on my phones. With the update, users can register up to four devices simultaneously to a controller and easily switch between them directly from the controller. To connect a device and assign it a slot, users must press and hold the PS button and one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, square). Once your phone, PC, and Mac are connected and paired to the controller, you can switch between the connected devices by pressing the PS button and the assigned action button. Since there are four slots available, you can connect your PS5 controller to your PS5, Android phone, tablet/PC/laptop, and gaming handheld like the Steam Deck, covering the entire spectrum of available gaming platforms that you may own. Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority I love the idea of this, as I own different games on different platforms, and this would let me conveniently play controller-compatible games irrespective of the platform. I can still do this pre-update, but pairing and re-pairing your controller gets annoying after the first couple of times, and I am glad I won't have to keep doing it. Got a tip? Talk to us!
