Abu Dhabi set to unveil new attraction featuring AI-powered fountain display

Abu Dhabi is set to launch a new waterfront attraction featuring an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered fountain show on Al Maryah Island. At the center of the development is a 30-meter luminous sphere floating in the bay, surrounded by 1,000 AI-powered water jets that will move in sync with music by Ramin Djawadi, the composer behind popular TV soundtracks like Game of Thrones . 'We have officially launched the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project, a monumental development in transforming the island's lifestyle and leisure experience,' Mubadala announced on X. The water show is designed by WET, a globally recognized firm behind some of the world's most iconic fountain displays, including the Dubai Fountain. In addition to the fountain show, the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement will include shaded outdoor areas, new food and beverage zones, and improved access to the waterfront, offering visitors more public space for leisure and recreation.

Think mesmerising water shows, cooling sea breezes and plenty of places to dine, wander and unwind. We have officially launched the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project, a monumental development in transforming the island's lifestyle and leisure experience. (1/4) — Mubadala (@Mubadala) July 20, 2025 At the heart of the revamp is the luminous sphere – a glowing orb set dramatically in the bay, surrounded by jets of water shooting 75 metres into the sky. These choreographed water features will respond to music and light, all powered by AI and created by famed water design studio WET, the same minds behind the Dubai Fountain and LA's Bellagio counterpart. Beyond the fountain theatrics, the upgraded waterfront will include a new sea-level boardwalk, shaded outdoor cooling zones for summer strolls, fresh foodie zones and spaces tailored for public events. There's no opening date as of yet, but once complete, the new-look Al Maryah Waterfront will be one of the capital's top places to relax, recharge and take in some truly next-level waterworks. Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments, Mubadala said: 'The Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island. This project will deliver iconic elements that elevate the quality of life and offer a diverse experience for visitors, while reinforcing the island's position as a premier lifestyle destination.' How hundreds work around-the-clock to get Dubai Fountain running by October

Dubai's iconic fountain — the largest in the world — has been temporarily out of action for several months due to ongoing maintenance. But what really goes on behind the scenes of this colossal water and light spectacle? From hundreds working around the clock to high-tech upgrades hidden beneath the surface, one influencer took a rare behind-the-scenes tour, uncovering the process that keeps the Dubai Fountain running at its best. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. Sparkling waters? The Dubai Fountain always sparkles — no matter where you look at it from — do you know why? That's thanks to the impeccable flooring under the water. The concrete flooring underwater — as large as almost 18 football fields — is being treated with layers of primer and waterproofing, to ensure it is easier to maintain. Earlier, the floor would occasionally crack. Another reason the stunning display consistently shines is because of several methods the team uses to ensure that the water stays clean. A team works behind the scenes, regularly testing the water from different areas of the lake. Hard at work, though, are underwater robots, that keep the floor and the 1.3-metre deep water squeaky clean. 'Takes weeks' Each performance of the world's largest dancing fountain takes weeks to create. The influencer explains that in his conversation with the engineer he found that robots are used extensively to programme it. These robots control the lighting and water that are placed beside the sprinklers — creating a beautiful 'dance'. Watch the video below: The revamping of the iconic tourist attraction comes with a strict deadline, with Dubai Mall confirming that the fountain is aiming to be fully operational by October 2025. Nestled in the heart of Downtown Dubai, just steps from the iconic Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain stands as a dazzling showcase of the city's innovation and grandeur. Renowned for its mesmerizing shows that blend water, music, and light in perfect harmony, the fountain attracts millions of visitors from across the globe each year.

When will Dubai Fountain reopen? The proposed dates to know

Dubai Fountain is one of the most iconic and recognisable attractions in the emirate, but it will be closed for the majority of the year while major upgrades are carried out. While the world's largest performing fountain is closed, Emaar has introduced new measures to enhance the visitor experience in the area surrounding Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. By Dubai's standards, we're in for a treat. Although an official opening date has yet to be established, Dubai Mall confirmed that the fountain is aiming to be fully operational by October 2025. Emaar also shared a similar prediction via their official channels, and wrote, 'The renovation will commence in May and is expected to take five months to complete.' Dubai Fountain currently Dubai Fountain is officially closed while major upgrades are underway Dubai Fountain looks completely different without water The first stage of the Dubai Fountain revamp involves closing down the attraction and removing the 30 acres of water, before alternative measures are installed (more about that below), so the hard work can begin. After the official closure on Saturday April 19, the Downtown spot looks completely different without the huge artificial Burj Khalifa Lake. With already significant progress underway, we can't wait to see the final result. Dubai Fountain upgrade plans So, what can we expect with the upgrade? There will be advanced technology, improved choreography, and an enhanced sound and lighting system used in the regular performances. The shows, held in the Burj Lake, saw the fountains spray up to 22,000 gallons of water as high as 140m in the air at any one time while accompanied by lights and music. Emaar, the property developer behind Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, will install 500 metres of state-of-the-art digital screens across the promenade while work is carried out on the Dubai Fountain. The screens are designed to animate the location with engaging visual content, and it is hoped that they will keep the promenade busy while the fountain is closed. Dubai Fountain show (Credit: Emaar) In addition to the state-of-the-art screens, Emaar has also announced that rent for 50 food and beverage spots with lake and fountain-facing terraces will be waived for four months between June and September. The affected terrace spaces are likely to experience a decline in footfall while upgrades are put in place at the Dubai Fountain. Guests at restaurants in the area surrounding the Dubai Fountain would normally have an incredible view of the attraction's nightly shows against the backdrop of the world's tallest building. While there will still be great views of the city and its most iconic building, the property developer is supporting its tenants during the temporary closure. Dubai Fountain show (Credit: Supplied) Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar, highlighted the popularity of Dubai Fountain for visitors. He said: 'For years, Dubai Fountain and the surrounding lake have contributed significantly to the popularity of these destinations. 'As we move into a new chapter, this rent support reflects our commitment to long-term partnerships and to helping tenants navigate this transition with resilience and confidence.' Making plans? Not Heading To Turkey Or Azerbaijan? These 5 Countries Have A Lot To Offer

Planning a summer trip is always exciting - shortlists get made, group chats light up, and flight prices are tracked like cricket scores. This year, many Indian families started their vacation planning the same way. But plans changed quickly after political headlines made their way into travel choices. Instead of going ahead with trips to Turkey or Azerbaijan, a lot of travellers are now looking elsewhere. The shift became clear in recent days. "Indian travellers have expressed strong sentiments over the past one week, with bookings for Azerbaijan and Turkey decreasing by 60 per cent, while cancellations have surged by 250 per cent during the same period," MakeMyTrip said in a statement on Wednesday. So, if you had Turkey or Azerbaijan on your radar, do not worry. There are other travel destinations that offer the same mix of warm hospitality, cultural depth, and photogenic spots. Here Are 5 Beautiful Countries To Visit If You Are Skipping Turkey And Azerbaijan: 1. Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia is quickly turning into one of the most interesting countries for international holidays. With ancient sites, modern cities, and beautiful coastlines, it has a little bit of everything. Some must-visit places include the historical city of AlUla, the stunning tombs of Madain Saleh, the lively streets of Jeddah, and the luxury resorts along the Red Sea coast. Visa Processing Time: E-Visa for Indian citizens is usually approved within 24-48 hours Average Budget: Rs 1.2-1.8 lakh per person for a 7-day trip (excluding shopping) 2. United Arab Emirates (UAE) The UAE remains one of the top international destinations for Indian tourists. It has everything from shiny malls to desert dunes and traditional souks. Whether you are visiting with family or going solo, the experiences are endless. Check out Burj Khalifa, the musical Dubai Fountain, Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, and the gold and spice markets in Old Dubai. 3. Georgia This scenic Eurasian country is ideal for Indian tourists looking for peace, history, and great food. Known for its wine culture, old churches, and mountain towns, Georgia offers the kind of slow travel many people enjoy. Wander through the pretty streets of Tbilisi, visit the hilltop Gergeti Trinity Church, explore cave cities like Vardzia and Uplistsikhe, and sip wine in Kakheti. 4. Greece If you had Istanbul on your list, Greece is an excellent backup plan. Think island towns with white walls, long coastlines, and meals full of Mediterranean flavour. It is rich in history too, from ancient Athens to the Acropolis. Go island-hopping to places like Aegina, Hydra or Paros, catch a sunset in Santorini, and try Greek dishes in cosy family-run restaurants. 5. Seychelles If your dream vacation involves clear blue water and quiet beaches, Seychelles fits the bill. While it is perfect for beach pictures, it is also a peaceful and quiet spot to just relax. Snorkel in coral reefs, walk rainforest trails, and visit UNESCO-listed sites like Vallee de Mai. Indian passport holders do not need a visa, and the short flight makes it an easy choice. While Turkey and Azerbaijan may be off the map this season for many Indian travellers, there are plenty of beautiful, safe, and culturally rich destinations ready to welcome you in 2025. Your summer travel plans are still looking very bright.
