In line with its efforts to reinforce the role of human capital in improving government and institutional performance, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department DGHR honoured Dr Mohammed Suhail Al Muhairi, a government employee in the emirate, for proposing the 'Summer Working Hours' initiative. This recognition highlights his innovative contribution to enhancing the workplace environment and employee well-being during the summer months. It also reflects the Department's unwavering commitment to promoting a culture of participation and innovation across government entities. This recognition signifies DGHR's ongoing efforts to encourage individual initiatives and innovative concepts emerging from the government sector. In line with this approach, DGHR adopted the innovative proposal and transformed it into an official government decision under the 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative. Launched in 2024 with the active participation of several government entities, the initiative was designed to directly address employees' requirements during the summer months. It was launched through a pilot phase, during which the Department developed a structured implementation framework. Furthermore, DGHR closely observed the initiative's development, execution, and impact across all operational aspects, further enhancing the work environment and ensuring employee well-being. During the pilot phase assessment, the Department received tangible positive outcomes, such as a notable increase in key performance indicators, including productivity, customer service, and employee satisfaction. It also resulted in an 87 per cent improvement in employees' ability to complete tasks on time, a 96 per cent improvement in customer service with zero complaints and a 98 per cent improvement in employees' happiness and enthusiasm in the workplace. These outcomes reaffirm the Department's commitment and its strong belief in the significance of listening to employees, drawing on their ideas and experiences, and translating individuals' ideas into actionable, measurable institutional policies. This approach not only boosts employee performance and productivity but also ensures that government services meet the highest standards of innovation and efficiency, without compromising employee well-being or experience. The Department remains dedicated to developing a progressive government work model based on innovation, collaboration and sustainability. Aligning with the declaration of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, designating 2025 as the 'Year of Community', the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR), represented by the Strategy and Excellence Department, organised the 'Community Change Lab' initiative. The innovative venture explored proposed mechanisms and solutions to prepare qualified human capital and encourage their participation in both social and institutional ventures, upholding the objectives of the 'Year of Community', aimed at promoting social unity and sustainable development. The lab convened officials from the Community Development Authority, Dubai Women Establishment, and Dubai Sports Council, along with representatives from the private sector and leading experts from various fields. It also facilitated discussions on key themes and showcased high-impact ideas, which can enhance the community's role in fostering integration across diverse social groups. H.E. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department DGHR hosted the second edition of its 'Human Resource Forum of 2025', under the theme 'New Work Patterns and Their Impact on the Future of Human Resources,' to explore the evolving dynamics of the workplace. The event congregated leading experts and specialists from Dubai's government entities. Aligned with the launch of the 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative, which will run from July 1 to September 12, 2025, the forum gathered general managers, executives, department heads, and HR professionals to explore emerging trends in work patterns and support Dubai's broader HR strategy. It also reinforced DGHR's dedication to fostering future-ready government capabilities and promoting adaptive, sustainable, future-focused work models that enhance institutional efficiency in response to global workforce transformations and enhance efficiency. H.E. Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of Dubai Government Human Resources Department, said: 'This forum marks a significant step in our journey toward future readiness, highlighting the importance of responsive policies that align with global labour markets. Dubai to begin summer working hours for government agencies
Government entities in Dubai are set to implement the 'Our Summer is Flexible' programme on Tuesday, introducing flexible working hours in the public sector until September 12. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) said it will be implemented based on each entity's discretion. The first group will work eight hours from Monday to Thursday and enjoy Friday as a full holiday, while the second group will work seven hours from Monday to Thursday and 4.5 hours on Friday. The move is "aimed at enhancing work-life balance for government employees", the authority said, adding that it follows the "success of its pilot phase in 2024". Results from the pilot implementation across 21 government entities in 2024 reportedly demonstrated increased productivity, improved work environment quality, and an increase in employee satisfaction and happiness levels to nearly 98 per cent.
