22 July 2025 13:02 Dubai (Aletihad)The Dubai International Holy Quran Award, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has witnessed a significant leap in the number of registered Quran memorizers for its 28th edition in 2026, reinforcing one of the key objectives of its new developmental vision "In search of the most beautiful Quran recitation". With the registration period concluding today, the award received 5,618 applications from 105 countries across various continents, with 30% of applications submitted under the female category. Global Interest Reinforces the Award's StandingHis Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, reiterated that this overwhelming interest from male and female Quran memorizers reflects the exceptional success of the developmental vision initiated by the patron of the award, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Wide International Participation Ibrahim Jasem Al Mansouri, Acting Director of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, stated that the 28th edition received applications from across the globe, including Arab and Islamic countries as well as Muslim communities in various non-Muslim countries. Egypt topped the list with 1,410 applications, followed by Pakistan (571), Indonesia (505), India (391), Morocco (248), Syria (211), Bangladesh (211), Iraq (187), Nigeria (133), and Yemen (132). He added that significant numbers of applications were received from Quran memorizers in the United States, Canada, Russia, and European countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Applications were also submitted from many other countries across Asia and Africa, in addition to New Mansouri pointed out that this level of global interest aligns with the goals of the award's new developmental vision, through which Dubai aims to expand its influential role in serving the Holy Quran, promoting its memorization, encouraging excellence in recitation and understanding of its sciences, and instilling its values and teachings among the younger generation. He stressed that this growing international interest motivates the award to accelerate efforts and develop more initiatives, programs, and tools to encourage a greater number of countries, institutions, and individuals to engage positively in Quran memorization and recitation, and deepen their connection to its sciences. Preliminary Evaluation Stage UnderwayThe Dubai International Holy Quran Award received 5,816 applications during the registration period, which ran from May 21 to July 20. Of these, 30% were submitted under the female category. All eligible applications have entered the preliminary evaluation stage, which began early July and will continue until the end of the applicants from the preliminary round will move to the second stage, which will involve direct video calls between the memorizers and the evaluation committee. This phase will run from September 1 to 30. Finalists will then advance to the final evaluation round, which will take place in person in Dubai during the second week of Ramadan. Among the groundbreaking updates in this edition is the introduction of a dedicated category for female participants, bringing the total number of categories to three: Full Quran Memorization – Male, Full Quran Memorization – Female, and the Islamic Personality of the Year Award. Participants may now apply through direct personal nomination, via a recognized Islamic center, or through official bodies worldwide. The developmental vision also includes expanding the scope of international participation, modernizing nomination, evaluation, and judging procedures, and launching new initiatives to enhance the quality and performance of participants.

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award has announced that registration for its 28th international edition, set for 2026, has seen a record turnout within just three weeks of its launch. This follows the qualitative additions approved by the Award's Board of Trustees as part of its new development vision. Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director-General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai and Chairman of the Award's Board of Trustees, revealed that the total number of applicants has exceeded 3,400 Quran memorisers from 85 countries worldwide — affirming the Award's strong reputation and the eagerness to participate. He noted that this figure, a significant increase compared to previous editions, reflects the Award's vision to expand global participation and broaden its activities and international reach. For the first time, the Award has opened participation to females through a dedicated category and has allowed direct individual nominations, alongside the usual nominations by the participant's country or an accredited Islamic centre. He affirmed that, by the grace of Allah Almighty and with the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai International Holy Quran Award will continue to reinforce its status as the largest and most prestigious award honouring Quran memorisers. This reaffirms the pioneering role of Dubai in serving the Holy Book of Allah and strengthens its position as a global centre for celebrating Quran memorisers from around the world. Ibrahim Jassim Al Mansouri, Acting Director of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, stated that the Award will begin reviewing and approving submissions from Quran memorisers, after which the evaluation stages will begin. The first stage involves recording a three-minute video recitation from any part of the Holy Quran, with suitable quality and without sound effects. Initial evaluation will be based on tajweed rules and the quality of performance. In the second stage, remote testing will be conducted for those who qualify, with evaluation based on memorisation, tajweed, and performance. In the third stage, a group of top contestants who achieved the highest scores in the second stage will be hosted in person in Dubai for live testing. The first-place winner will be honoured at the closing ceremony, in both the male and female categories. He confirmed that the judging committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award is selected by the Award's Board of Trustees according to strict criteria to ensure fairness in evaluation and competition. The committee evaluates contestants based on defined standards and mechanisms for memorisation, tajweed and performance. For the first time in its 27-year history, the Dubai International Holy Quran Award has opened its doors to female participants. The prestigious competition, which has seen 2,107 contestants from 91 countries over the years, will now allow self-nomination for all participants, eliminating the need for official country nominations. Announced at a press conference on Wednesday the total prize pool of Dh12 million, including a $1 million top prize, the award continues to cement Dubai's position as a global centre for Quranic excellence and Islamic scholarship. The competition has undergone significant restructuring, consolidating its categories into three main divisions: Male Award, Female Award, and Islamic Personality of the Year Award. This development marks a major step in expanding participation and enhancing the award's global reach and impact. The prize structure has been substantially increased, with the first-place winner in both the male and female categories each receiving $1 million, second place $100,000, and third place $50,000. The Islamic Personality of the Year Award, which can be granted to an individual or an organisation, also carries a prize of $1 million. Criteria and registration for Quran award Participants must be under 16 years of age at registration and have memorised the Holy Quran with proper recitation and tajweed rules. Those who have reached the finals or been honoured in previous editions are not eligible to compete again. The competition will follow a three-phase evaluation process. The initial phase involves assessment of video recitations submitted to the award website. Qualified participants will then undergo remote testing in the second phase. The final phase will bring the top performers to Dubai for in-person evaluation during the second week of Ramadan, culminating in a grand closing ceremony. Under the patronage of Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the winners of the first edition of the Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Quran Competition for School Students in Dubai for the academic year 2024-2025 were honoured. The competition was organised by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, operating under the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD), in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The award ceremony, held at Zayed University, celebrated 120 students who participated in the various categories of the competitions, including Quran Memorisation, Beautiful Recitation, Tajweed Text Memorisation, and Scientific Texts Memorisation category. The ceremony was attended by Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director-General of IACAD; Aisha Miran, Director-General of KHDA, along with representatives from participating schools and families of students. The Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Quran Competition for School Students in Dubai encourages students of all ages to memorise, recite, and understand the Holy Quran. The Competition is part of the 'Ghiras Al Khair' initiative, which seeks to instil Islamic values, promote the Arabic language, and strengthen national identity among the younger generation. On this occasion, Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi said, 'This competition is a testament to the strong collaboration between IACAD and KHDA, reflecting our shared commitment to community development. 'We congratulate all the students who participated, with special recognition to the winners, for their dedication and active involvement throughout the competition. This competition aims to instill Islamic values and reinforce our national identity. It also recognises the key contributions of teachers and staff at the Maktoum Holy Quran and Sciences Centres, whose efforts inspire a competitive environment that motivates students to excel in Quran memorisation and recitation.' This year's edition attracted 1,104 male and female students from 32 private schools in Dubai offering a diverse range of educational curricula. The strong participation highlights the cultural diversity of the attendees, with participants hailing from 41 different nationalities. The competition saw robust participation across different grade levels, with the largest group consisting of 472 students from grades one to four. This was followed by 415 students from grades five to eight, and 217 students from grades nine to twelve. The competition serves as an outstanding platform for cultural exchange and the promotion of Islamic values among younger generations. It also included the participation of 20 students with determination, of whom five emerged as winners. Aisha Miran said, 'Today, we celebrate the exceptional achievements of our students from various schools who have excelled in memorising the Holy Quran. These students, from diverse ages and backgrounds, have become ambassadors of Islamic values, setting a positive example for their peers.' 'We express our gratitude to everyone involved in the Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Holy Quran Competition, including the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, school coordinators, and teachers, for their efforts in instilling positive values within our diverse educational community.
