RECAP: Jervis Shopping Centre evacuated as car park goes on fire
A massive evacuation is under way after a fire erupted in the Jervis Shopping Centre car park. Dublin Fire Brigade is currently at the scene of the incident in north Dublin city centre. One witness told Dublin Live: "Just walked down Henry Street and there was a load of smoke wafting down the street. Could hear an alarm going off at the back of Jervis and a load of fire engines heading up over the quays in that direction." All stores in the shopping centre have been evacuated as firefighters work to make the scene safe. Dublin Live has contacted Dublin City Council for a comment. Dublin firefighter charged with rape to be retried in October after hung jury
A firefighter from Ireland accused of raping a woman in a Boston hotel room on St. Patrick's Day weekend in 2024 will go to trial for the second time in six months in October, prosecutors confirmed. Terence Crosbie is charged with one count of rape in connection with the incident at the Omni Parker House in Boston on March 15, 2024. His first trial ended in a mistrial last week after four days of jury deliberations and five days of testimony, court records show. Crosbie's second trial will begin Oct. 14 in Suffolk Superior Court. A member of the Dublin Fire Brigade, Crosbie and other firefighters were visiting the city over St. Patrick's Day weekend. He is accused of raping a 28-year-old woman in the hotel room he was sharing with a fellow firefighter, who the woman had previously had consensual sex with after a day of drinking. The woman told police she and the other man fell asleep in separate beds after having sex. Around 2 a.m. on the morning of March 15, she said she awoke to a stranger raping her. She told him to stop and eventually managed to push him off. The woman recalled the man saying, 'This guy is sleeping. I know you want this,' according to the report. He also tried to kiss her and push her against the wall several times as she tried to leave. The woman then texted her friend to say she had been assaulted, the report said. Hotel security footage matched the woman's story, and she identified a man who'd shared a hotel room with Crosbie as the man she'd had consensual sex with, police said in a report. In an interview with police, Crosbie said he'd seen the man he was staying with come into the room with the woman and left to give them privacy, the report said. Hours later, he entered the room after knocking and saw the woman leave but didn't interact with her, he told police. Massachusetts State Police arrested Crosbie on the tarmac at Logan Airport just before the plane he was on was set to depart for Ireland, the district attorney's office said previously. He'd changed his flight to an earlier day after an interview with police. Busy Irish shopping centre evacuated after blaze breaks out as number of fire trucks line the street as incident ongoing
A BUSY Irish shopping centre has been evacuated after a fire broke out. It is believed a fire broke out in the Jervis Shopping Centre car park leading to the evacuation operation. All stores in the shopping centre have been evacuated as firefighters work to make the scene safe. Images on social media show shoppers and staff on the street outside the complex after rushing from the building. Images of the scene also show smoke rising from the top of the building. Dublin Fire Brigade has been contacted for a comment in relation to the incident. Watch: Moment lorry driver rescues man from burning building in Dublin
A lorry driver who reversed his truck up to a burning building in Dublin is being hailed a hero for saving a man's life. The man had been trapped on the third floor of the four-storey building on Granby Row in Dublin 1, as smoke billowed from the windows out onto the street, when the quick-thinking lorry driver reversed his lorry directly outside the burning building. After a minute or so, a man can be seen jumping from a window onto the top of the lorry to the amazement of a group of onlookers who had gathered at the scene. The street remained closed on Tuesday afternoon with local diversions in place, and Dublin Bus were among public transport operators implementing diversions as a result.

Lorry driver saves man from burning building in Dublin by parking under window
A lorry driver on his daily delivery round in Dublin saved a man from a burning building on Granby Row in Dublin's north inner city on Monday morning. A video posted to social media shows Tomasz Zareba, who delivers groceries for the Eurospar chain, parking his lorry outside the burning building, allowing a man to jump from a window to land on the vehicle. Mr Zareba told The Irish Times that he 'thought it would be much safer for him to jump on the lorry instead of the footpath'. The driver had already seen someone jump from the building before parking his lorry beside the window. READ MORE 'One guy was lying on the footpath. He had blood on his face, and I think he might have broken both his legs when he jumped from the building,' he said. He then saw another man 'screaming from the window'. Tomasz Zareba: 'It would be much safer for him to jump on the lorry instead of the footpath' 'He didn't know what he was supposed to do because he had flames behind him, and the long drop below him,' said Mr Zareba. 'I reversed the lorry as close as I safely could to the window and the other lads from the footpath told him to jump on the roof of the lorry. 'He was okay, I think. I asked him how many people were in the building, but he didn't know because he was in shock.' The lorry driver waited at the scene 'in case maybe somebody else would need to jump from the window'. Once Dublin Fire Brigade arrived, Mr Zareba left the scene and continued his deliveries for the day. Footage posted online captured a truck driver saving a man from a burning building on Granby Row in Dublin's north inner city yesterday Gardaí assisted emergency services at the scene at around 8.15am. Six fire engines attended the scene of the fire. Seven people were treated at the scene, and three were hospitalised. Mr Zareba is originally from Poland and has been driving a lorry in Ireland since 1998. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
