'Help us save little Éabha.' Family make appeal for baby's overseas treatment

An Irish family have made an urgent appeal for help as their beloved one-year-old daughter prepares to travel for life-saving treatment overseas - just weeks after they tragically lost their adored three-year-old daughter to the same rare condition. Éabha Duggan, born on June 24, 2024, has been diagnosed with a rare and serious genetic condition that requires a bone marrow transplant – a treatment not currently available in Ireland. Her only option is to travel to Prinses Máxima Centrum in Utrecht, a world-leading specialist children's hospital in the Netherlands. The Duggan family of Mayo and Galway are now making an urgent public appeal for financial support as their one-year-old daughter prepares for the life-saving bone marrow transplant in the coming weeks. For parents Tommy (from Bekan, Claremorris, Mayo) and Martina Duggan (originally from Eyrecourt, Galway), this is an unimaginable second journey down a path of profound sorrow. Their eldest daughter, Saoirse, bravely battled leukaemia after being diagnosed in late 2023. She underwent a bone marrow transplant in February 2024, but tragically, the disease returned months later, and she passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, surrounded by love. "To face such loss and now fight for another child's life is more than any family should have to bear," says Éabha's aunt, who has launched a fundraising campaign with the family's permission. "While the medical costs for Éabha's transplant are covered by the HSE, the overwhelming financial burden of travel, and related living expenses in the Netherlands falls entirely on the family." Time is critical for Éabha. The "Together for Éabha" GoFundMe campaign has been established in response to the many friends, neighbours, and kind-hearted people who've asked how they can help. This initiative aims to alleviate the significant financial strain, allowing Tommy and Martina to focus solely on their daughter's treatment and recovery. All donations will go directly to the Duggan family to support Éabha's medical care and associated costs. To donate to the fundraiser, head here. Independent Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mike Duggan raises $3.2M in six months

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said on Friday that his independent Michigan gubernatorial campaign brought in more than $3.2 million over the past six months and has over $2.3 million cash on hand. According to the Duggan campaign, more than 93 percent of its donations came from Michigan. Duggan's campaign manager Ed Duggan also noted that the campaign has raised nearly $1.4 million over the past 30 days alone. 'As an Independent campaign, we can't rely on party infrastructure for our fundraising. We had to build everything from the ground up,' Ed Duggan said in a statement. 'Our numbers are a sign of the incredible grassroots energy we're feeling on the campaign trail. We couldn't be more grateful for all our supporters who made this possible.' Mike Duggan, who was elected mayor as a Democrat, launched his Independent bid for governor in December. The mayor's latest fundraising numbers come a day after Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D), the frontrunner in the Democratic primary, announced her campaign raised more than $3.5 million since its launch in January and has over $2.4 million in the bank. Benson and Duggan's hauls are both more than the $1.5 million Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), who is term-limited, raised at this point in 2017 after announcing her first gubernatorial bid in January of that year. In this year's Democratic primary, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II's campaign said he raised more than $750,000, while former Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said his campaign has raised more than $1 million. Gilchrist jumped into the primary in March, and Swanson announced his bid in February. On the Republican side, former state Attorney General Mike Cox (R), who jumped into the race in April, said his campaign has raised $2.4 million and has $1.9 million in the bank. Rep. John James (R-Mich.), state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt (R), and former state House Speaker Tom Leonard (R) are also running in the GOP primary.

West Coast captain Liam Duggan confident Harley Reid will recommit to Eagles as talks ramp up

West Coast captain Liam Duggan believes Harley Reid will remain at the Eagles, saying the star's investment at the club is 'second-to-none.' Reid's management has ramped up contract talks with the Eagles, with his draft contract set to come to an end at the end of next season. There are reports of a $20 million, 10-year deal on the table while Victorian clubs such as Hawthorn and Geelong are also chasing hard for the former No.1 pick. While Duggan says he's unsure of what deal the club was working towards, he is confident the 20-year-old will recommit to the Eagles. 'I'm really eager for Harley to sign. I mean, he's going to be paid very well regardless of where it is, and he's going to get a long-term deal regardless of where it is,' he said on Triple M. 'But all I can speak of at the moment is that his investment in what we're going after at the moment is second to none. 'He has been so dialled into what we're going after as a footy club at the moment, he's been very vocal in that amongst the group, the way he's playing, you can see that in the way that he's playing, and I think our supporters would be able to see that in the way that he's going about his footy right now.' After a slow start to the season, Reid has been the standout performer over recent weeks and was the only Eagle to receive coaches' votes in their disastrous loss to Richmond. Duggan said Reid has grown as a leader at the club, believing it's been his biggest development this year. 'What he's given us at the moment is huge, and he's shown so much leadership, sort of qualities as a youngster, which I don't think a lot of people would probably think of in Harley,' he said. 'I think they think the best players, they just go about it quietly, do their own thing and but he's he's complete opposite, he's dialled in completely to what it is. 'And he's a great mate. Pre-game, I ducked around to his place., I enjoy spending time with him, so as a mate, I just want him to be happy, but I'd love it to be with us, and I think it will be.' As the negotiations continue, Duggan said the noise around his future would have no impact on Reid or his performances on the field. 'He's used to the talk, so the noise is not unusual. He had plenty of it before he got drafted.'

Meath dethrone Kerry and advance to All-Ireland final

Kerrie Cole and Sarah Wall struck goals in either half at Glenisk O'Connor Park in Tullamore on Saturday as Meath booked a return to the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final for the first time since 2022 by dethroning reigning champions Kerry. Although their opponents raced two points clear in the early moments with unanswered efforts from Siofra O'Shea (free) and Anna Galvin, a Meath side that were buoyed by an excellent knockout triumph at home to Tipperary 13 days earlier subsequently edged in front with three scores on the bounce from Marion Farrelly, Emma Duggan and Ciara Smyth. While a fine point from play by O'Shea had Kerry back on level terms, Meath rocked their Munster rivals on 18 minutes when Cole cut in from the right and smashed an unstoppable shot into the opposition net via the underside off the crossbar. After Duggan converted a close-range Meath free, Niamh Ní Chonchúir chipped in with a much-needed brace for a Kerry side that spurned a number of scoring opportunities in the opening period. Traded points between Farrelly and O'Shea ensured the Royals brought a 1-05 to 0-06 cushion into the interval, but the Kingdom turned the game on its head when Rathmore attacker Danielle O'Leary bagged a superb goal within two minutes of the resumption. However, Meath didn't panic and they squeezed back into the ascendancy with points from Duggan and Aoibhin Cleary. Although O'Shea and Caoimhe Evans split the uprights for Kerry in a tense third quarter, these scores arrived either side of an expertly-taken Meath goal by marauding defender Wall - whose sister Vikki got through a lot of hard work for the Royals - after 40 minutes. Smyth and influential Kerry ace O'Shea added further points for their respective outfits as the second half progressed, but Meath were on the brink of victory when former team captain Shauna Ennis and current skipper Cleary registered quickfire scores to leave their side four ahead inside the closing 10 minutes. The influential Duggan added a two-point salvo as the final whistle approached to make sure Kerry were kept at bay and the Royals - Brendan Martin Cup champions in 2021 and 2022 - can now look forward to a showpiece affair at Croke Park on 3 August.
