The week in whoppers: Jeff Daniels' dumb anti-Trump slam, Jerry Nadler's stunning ignorance on ICE assaults and more

Diary of disturbing disinformation and dangerous delusions This complaint: '[Under Trump] we've lost decency, we've lost civility, we've lost respect for the rule of law.' — Jeff Daniels, Monday We say: Was Daniels in a coma when Democrats egged on the George Floyd rioters who burned their way through US cities in 2020? Or when Biden called Trump supporters 'garbage'? Or the left launched a politically driven, no-holds-barred, anti-Trump lawfare campaign? Or Joe Biden preemptively pardoned his influence-peddling, tax-evading, drug-addict son? Memo to the 'Dumb and Dumber' star: It was Democrats who tossed decency, civility and the rule of law out the window. This question: 'What attacks on ICE agents?' — Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Friday We say: Assaults against ICE agents spiked 830% since Trump took office, Homeland Security reports — thanks in no small part to Democrats' unhinged rhetoric toward federal agents. Just weeks ago, a mob in military gear attacked an ICE detention center, shooting at unarmed agents and a local cop. Yet asked about the violence, Nadler played dumb. If the congressman is truly unaware of the spate of assaults, he's unfit for office. This charge: 'The Trump administration is doing the work of our adversary, Russia.' — CNN's Beth Sanner, Wednesday We say: Democrats were obsessed with the Russiagate hoax for nearly a decade, pushing bad info from the debunked Steele dossier (with the help of their media lapdogs) that the Kremlin helped Trump win in 2016. Please. This claim: 'There is likely no trade deal with Japan.' — Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Wednesday We say: Sorry, Senator, but Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru confirmed the deal the same day you fired off your disparaging take. The agreement, which the White House says will bring $550 billion in investments to the United States, is great news for America — but it's also a win for the president. No wonder Trump-hater Murphy doesn't want to believe it. — Compiled by The Post Editorial Board

Actor mourns Kamala Harris' election loss, compares her to Abraham Lincoln

Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels has lamented Kamala Harris' election loss and asserted she would have governed like Abraham Lincoln. The 'Dumb and Dumber' star's comments came during an appearance on MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace's podcast 'The Best People'. 'I still think about Kamala, and how I think she would have been a good choice. I don't care what they say, because she would have done what Lincoln did,' Daniels said. Daniels then claimed if Harris became president, Republican Liz Cheney 'would have been Secretary of State'.

Dumb and Dumber fans only now noticing clever detail three decades after release

Fans of '90s hit comedy Dumb and Dumber are only now realising a clever detail from the movie, which is widely regarded among the funniest films of all time. Dumb and Dumber opened at number one at the box office and earned a whopping $247 million against a relatively small budget of €17 million. It is a standout film in the careers of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, who played the protagonists of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne respectively. While it's been 31 years since Dumb and Dumber first hit our screens, a clever detail in the movie has only recently surfaced on Reddit, leaving fans of the film in stitches as they remember their first experiences watching it, The Mirror reports. On Reddit's 'Movie Details' thread, one user highlighted a subtle joke that went over the heads of many viewers over the past three decades. A deleted scene from the movie had revealed the joke but it came as a surprise to most when it was pointed out. The Redditor pointed out: "In 'Dumb and Dumber,' Lloyd Christmas was in love with Mary Swanson. Had they gotten married and she'd taken his last name, she'd be named Mary Christmas. It's never mentioned in the movie." YardBarker further explained that this was not simply a coincidence, as evidenced by a deleted scene where Harry pieces together the connection, but ultimately, the filmmakers chose not to draw attention to the joke. When the deleted scene was shared on the Reddit thread, it received some criticism from users who failed to find it amusing. One commenter wrote: "Wow...I've seen a few deleted scenes and am glad they were deleted". Another user echoed this sentiment, stating: "I've seen an uncut version on TV a long time ago, and was like what the f*** is this? Over the top crude humour. It totally killed the innocent stupidity of the characters". One user joked, "So basically the sequel?" while another Reddit user poked fun, saying they act "like that doesn't exist". A fellow user chimed in, "Wise man. I still refuse to see it as well. In some alternate reality, there was a sequel that was true to the original and hilarious. That's what I tell myself anyway." The Farrelly brothers-led movie is considered one of the funniest of all time but it only holds a modest 67 per cent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Dumb and Dumber spawned an animated TV series, a 2003 prequel, and a 2014 sequel but it is the original that truly holds up among the greatest comedies of all time, with many reminiscing fondly of their first time watching. Many social media users have shared fond memories of the film, saying they were "obsessed" with it as a kid and had watched it so many times it was "burned into their brain," finding it "hilarious".

Why Stephen A. Smith says Pacers will win Game 6: 'These fans are special. This basketball environment is special'

Take a seat Pacers fans, get ready for this one, Stephen A. Smith says the NBA Finals are going to a Game 7. His reasoning? You. The ESPN personality has drawn plenty of ire from Pacers fans these playoffs, including fans sitting courtside dressed up as characters from "Dumb and Dumber" with Smith and Kendrick Perkins' faces on them, lambasting Smith for playing solitaire on his phone during Game 4 and former Colts punter Pat McAfee calling him out to get the crowd riled up. More: Where did 'In 49 states, it's just basketball' come from? This woman says she wrote it But on Thursday's "First Take," Smith had only glowing things to say about Pacers fans and he feels the atmosphere inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse for tonight's Game 6 will be the difference in pushing the Finals to a Game 7 back in OKC. 'Sitting here in Indianapolis, this is not how I usually flow fellas and Shae (Cornette), but I've got to tell you right now, OKC is an absolutely fabulous basketball environment, we know how electric it is there. Indiana, here, this Gainbridge, this is special. This is a special, special basketball environment. It's made for basketball. I even got to give props to the man Pat McAfee getting on the microphone calling me out for crying out loud, stirring the crowd up. It worked in Game 3. It worked against them in Game 4. "But this is a basketball environment. They feed off this kind of adversity. They're looking for any little ingredient whatsoever to make sure to galvanize them, give them that adrenaline rush so they can propel them and this is a perfect place for that to happen. "Game 6 tonight on the brink of elimination, with OKC knowing they've got to security blanket of a Game 7 on their homecourt, Indiana has to play by committee. You've got (Bennedict) Mathurin, you've got (Aaron) Nesmith, you've got (Andrew) Nembhard, you've got T.J. McConnell. They all have to play well. T.J. just got to do what he did the last game. The rest of them have to play better. (Pascal) Siakam continue to do his thing. But if there was ever an environment where they can do it, an atmosphere where they can do it, it's tonight in Game 6 in Indianapolis. That's why I believe even without (Tyrese) Haliburton this has a chance to go Game 7 because these fans are special. This basketball environment is special, and I think with them being on the brink of elimination, that's going to elevate things."

Dumb and Dumber fans in stitches after noticing 'subtle joke' after 31 years

Dumb and Dumber is one of the most iconic movies of the 90s, and fans have been left in hysterics after realising there was a clever joke that never made it to the final cut The hit 1994 comedy film Dumb and Dumber had a lasting impact on a generation, thanks in large part to the brilliant comedic performances of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The film's massive success saw it open at number one at the box office, raking in almost $250 million worldwide on a modest budget of $17 million, resulting in significant profits. However, a clever detail from the film has resurfaced on Reddit, leaving many in stitches, reminiscing about their childhoods. In the 'Movie Details' thread, a user highlighted a subtle joke that went largely unnoticed in the original cut. Although a deleted scene had initially revealed the joke, it remained a mystery to all but the most astute viewers in the final version. ‌ The Redditor pointed out: "In 'Dumb and Dumber,' Lloyd Christmas was in love with Mary Swanson. Had they gotten married and she'd taken his last name, she'd be named Mary Christmas. It's never mentioned in the movie". ‌ YardBarker further explained that this was not simply a coincidence, as evidenced by a deleted scene where Harry pieces together the connection, but ultimately, the filmmakers chose not to draw attention to the joke. ‌ A fellow user chimed in, "Wise man. I still refuse to see it as well. In some alternate reality, there was a sequel that was true to the original and hilarious. That's what I tell myself anyway,". It appears they're not alone in their disappointment with the movie's comedic elements, as it holds a modest 67% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. However, others shared fond memories of the film, saying they were "obsessed" with it as a kid and had watched it so many times it was "burned into their brain," finding it "hilarious". ‌ In the same Reddit thread, someone shared a curious anecdote about encountering someone with a similarly unusual name in real life. They wrote: "My high school had the graduating class photos from the 1930s on up to current, around the school. "If I remember correctly in the 70s, there was a girl named Mary Christmas Tree. Her brother had an equally interesting name, but I can't remember it now". A witty remark followed, "All we need to find is the Tree family tree and we will find his name".
