KUALA TERENGGANU: A former quantity surveyor at the Dungun Municipal Council was charged today in the Sessions Court for allegedly abusing his position to secure a RM150,000 contract for his parents' company. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, 41, denied the charge under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher. The offence was linked to a 2019 animal shelter project in Taman Rimba, Bandar Bukit Bauk. Judge Mohd Azhar Othman granted bail at RM6,000 with conditions, including monthly MACC reporting and passport surrender. The case will next be mentioned on July 29 for document submission.

He is charged with using his position as a member of the Tender and Quotation Evaluation Committee by recommending Yusha Timur Business, a company owned by his parents, for a work contract, worth RM150,000, involving the construction of an animal shelter at Taman Rimba, Bandar Bukit Bauk in Dungun, six years ago.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A former quantity surveyor at the Dungun Municipal Council was charged in the Sessions Court here with abusing his position to obtain gratification. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, 41, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the charge before judge Mohd Azhar Othman on Monday (June 30). He is charged with using his position as a member of the tender and quotation evaluation committee by recommending a company owned by his parents for a work contract worth RM150,000. The job involved the construction of an animal shelter at Taman Rimba, Bandar Bukit Bauk in Dungun six years ago. The offence was allegedly committed in April and May 2019 at the Dungun Municipal Council office. The charge, under Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. The court allowed Hanif bail of RM6,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to the nearest MACC office every month, not to intimidate witnesses, and to surrender his passport. KUALA TERENGGANU: A former assistant quantity surveyor at the Dungun Municipal Council and his wife were charged separately in court here with abuse of power for soliciting bribes and submitting false documents involving a total value of RM4.9 million. According to BuletinTV3, Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, 41, and his wife, Maimunah Syahbudin, 47, pleaded not guilty before judge Mohd Azhar Othman at the Sessions Court here. Hanif was slapped with four charges of abusing his position as a public servant at the council to secure public cleaning and related work contracts worth RM4,984,296. He was accused of recommending companies owned by his father, brother, and friend to obtain the contracts between Dec 16, 2018, and March 9, 2021, in Jalan Yahaya Ahmad in Dungun. The charges were filed under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of no less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher. Maimunah, a former contractor, was charged with 10 counts of using false documents, bank statements and company registration certificates from three different companies submitted to the municipal council. She allegedly committed the offences between Dec 17, 2020, and Jan 10, 2021, at the same location. The court set June 12 for mention of the case. The prosecution was led by MACC deputy public prosecutor Ezuain Farhana Ahmad, while both accused were represented by lawyer Ghazali Ismail.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A staff of the Dungun Municipal Council (MPD) was charged in the Sessions Court here today with four counts of using his position to award tenders for cleaning works to companies owned by family members and friends. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, 41, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Judge Mohd Azhar Othman. On all four charges, he was charged in his capacity as an assistant quantity surveyor at MPD, to have abused his position as a member of the Tender Secretariat (Supplies and Services) of the Finance Committee, by recommending three companies owned by his father, brother and an an associate, respectively, to be awarded contracts worth nearly RM5 million for public cleaning and related works for two years. He is charged with committing the offence at the MPD in Dungun between Dec 16, 2018, and March 9, 2021. The charges are framed under Section 24 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which provides imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. The court allowed him bail of RM18,000 with one surety and also ordered not to disturb witnesses as well as surrender his passport. Meanwhile, Mohammad Hanif's wife, Maimunah Syahbudin, 47, was charged in the same court with 10 counts of using false documents as genuine. She pleaded guilty to all charges. The woman was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code with dishonestly using documents that she knew to be false as genuine, namely a company registration declaration certificate and account statements involving three different companies. The offences were allegedly committed between Dec 17, 2020, and Jan 10, 2021, at the same place. She faced imprisonment for up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted. Mohd Azhar allowed Maimunah bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set June 12 for mention. She was also ordered not to disturb witnesses and to surrender her passport to the court. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ezuain Farhana Ahmad, from the MACC, while the couple was represented by lawyer Ghazali Ismail.
