Duterte's son challenges Philippine police chief to a fist-fight. ‘Perfect,' says general
Philippine National Police chief General Nicholas Torre III has accepted a challenge to a fist-fight from the son of former president Rodrigo Duterte , proposing that the clash be held this weekend as a charity event to raise funds for typhoon and flood victims. The dramatic exchange, which has captivated Filipinos online, is the latest escalation in an increasingly personal feud between the Duterte family and the country's top police officer. Tensions have simmered since Torre oversaw the March 11 arrest and transfer of former president Duterte to The Hague, where he awaits trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity. But the conflict burst into public view on Sunday when Sebastian 'Baste' Duterte – the acting mayor of Davao City and youngest son of the ex-president – challenged Torre to step down from his post and fight him man-to-man. 'You want to harass me? Go ahead,' the younger Duterte, 37, said during a podcast on Sunday. 'You're only brave because you have the position. But in a fist-fight, I can take you on. It's that simple … You're a coward, you're nothing without your position sa totoo lang (in truth).' Davao City Acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte. 'Perfect, there have been many victims of the typhoon and floods. Maybe we can use this opportunity to raise funds in a charity boxing match.'

Australia eyed for Duterte's possible interim release from The Hague detention
Philippines ' Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio said her father's lawyers were looking at Australia for his release to a third-party country, The Philippine Star newspaper reported on Tuesday. Duterte has been detained in The Hague since March over alleged crimes linked to his administration's 'war on drugs', a campaign that resulted in thousands of deaths among suspected drug dealers and users. The former president, who claimed the arrest was unlawful and equal to kidnapping, has petitioned the ICC for an interim release to another country earlier this month, according to his lawyer. Play Duterte-Carpio flew to Melbourne last Tuesday for a week-long visit which she said was a 'personal trip' instead of a holiday or to scout for a possible location for her father if he was released. 'I am not here for the interim release, not for this visit,' she said on Sunday, according to ABS-CBN News. 'I am here to discuss with the Filipino community on ways forward for our country, and of course how we can push the administration to do more for our country.'

Philippine Senate Sends Sara Duterte Impeachment Back to House
Prospects for a Senate trial of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte were thrown into doubt late Tuesday, after the Senate voted to return the articles of impeachment to the House to ensure they aren't in breach of the constitution. Voting 18-5, senators approved a motion put forward by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, which amended another senator's motion that had sought to dismiss the impeachment outright.

Philippines election: the ultimate Marcos v Duterte showdown
A fight to the death between two ruling dynasties who have done much to shape the modern Philippines is about to enter its end game. Battle will be joined in midterm elections on Monday in which neither of the two politicians with most at stake will be on any of the ballot papers. Only three years ago, Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos and Sara Duterte formed an unlikely populist alliance to win a landslide election mandate. Their victory installed the son of the country's former dictator as president and the daughter of the controversial outgoing president as his deputy. But the partnership unravelled fast. In February Duterte, 46, was impeached by Congress for plotting to kill Marcos and his first lady, misusing millions from her private office,
