Dibrugarh: Sivasagar police on Friday arrested a suspect and identified three others in a case where Rs 10 lakh was looted from a postal department employee in broad daylight. One of the identified suspects is a postal employee, who allegedly provided crucial information to the perpetrators.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 11.45 am, when two assailants on a motorcycle attacked Bipul Dutta at Raichai in Demow, while he was transporting cash from the Head Post Office in Sivasagar to Nitaipukhuri sub-post office. The robbers snatched the money and assaulted Dutta, breaking his teeth.
Addressing the media, Sivasagar additional SP (Crime) Moidul Islam said, "The police have cracked the snatching case of Rs 10 lakh from a postal department employee in Sivasagar within 24 hours," Islam said.
The swift police response involved a comprehensive investigation that relied heavily on CCTV footage analysis. Through meticulous examination of surveillance cameras, investigators were able to identify and arrest one Tultul Duwari. Duwari's confession proved instrumental in unravelling the entire conspiracy.
Based on Duwari's revelations, police identified three other persons involved in the elaborate robbery scheme.
