Bhubaneswar: Three empty wagons of a goods train derailed at the Cuttack station yard on Monday morning, railway officials said. The derailment, which took place at 8:43 am, was confined to the loop line and did not impact regular train operations on the main routes. East Coast Railway (ECoR) officials said the derailment caused no injuries or damage to infrastructure. The main line connecting Bhadrak-Cuttack-Visakhapatnam remained fully operational, ensuring uninterrupted passenger and freight services. "Train movements towards Paradip port have not been affected by the incident," said an ECoR spokesperson. "We immediately initiated restoration measures to clear the affected route. " Authorities swiftly mobilised their emergency response team, dispatching a relief train equipped with necessary machinery, materials and technical personnel to the site. The route was restored by afternoon. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. On May 18, four bogies of a goods train derailed near Dam Basti at Bimlagarh railway station in Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district, causing disruptions to train services. On March 30, a youth died and over 30 were injured after 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Manguli-Choudwar passenger halt in Cuttack.

Bhubaneswar: One person was arrested for allegedly pelting stones at Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express between Randia Baudpur and Bhadrak stations around 8.15 am on Friday. Tapas Maity, a passenger travelling from Kolkata, told the RPF that he heard a sound and noticed the window pane was broken. Maity, who was travelling with family members from Bhubaneswar to Howrah, informed the railway authorities through the Rail Madad portal. Chinmaya Majhi, supervisor of the pantry car, said the passenger of seat number 78 got down at Jaleswar railway station. After receiving the information, RPF staff at Bhadrak, including sub-inspector S K Das, reached the spot and conducted a track search raid from the Randia Baudpur section. A 30-year-old man from Jaleswar area in Balasore district admitted that he had committed the offence. RPF personnel arrested him after registering a case, according to an official statement issued by ECoR on Friday evening. On March 26, some miscreants had pelted stones at Puri-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express near Kalunga in Sundargarh district while the train was going towards Rourkela. The window panes of two coaches of Vande Bharat were damaged in the stone-pelting incident. On June 6 last year, two persons were arrested for allegedly pelting stones at Kamakhya-Bengaluru Express near Nirakarpur in Khurda district. One person was arrested from Bhubaneswar on June 3 last year for pelting stones at Mysore-Muzaffarpur Special, days after a passenger, hit by the stone, had succumbed to his injuries.

BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday launched a dedicated mobile application 'ECoR Yatra' to offer realtime, reliable and accessible railway services to lakhs of pilgrims attending the Rath Yatra in Puri. The android-based app is now available on the Google Play Store and provides a comprehensive digital guide to all rail-related services and passenger amenities during the festival. Railway officials said the ECoR Yatra app is a one-stop digital solution for passengers to plan their journey and access transport services. They can get updates related to railway facilities without the need to wait in station counters. With intuitive navigation and multilingual support, the app will cater to users from across the country. A complete list of special trains running exclusively for Rath Yatra 2025 (from June 25 to July 7) including train numbers, timings and halts is also available. Pilgrims can use this app to plan their trip well in advance, they said. The app has been integrated with IRCTC to provide information about available retiring rooms, tourist huts and temporary accommodations. Details about special ticket counters at Puri and other important stations have been added. Linked with the national train enquiry system and PNR status, the app will allow passengers to check seat availability and help navigate their journey better. It will provide detailed guidelines and advisories on crowd movement and guidelines for senior citizens and children.

Bhubaneswar: To ensure smooth movement and a comfortable journey for devotees, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday reviewed the comprehensive arrangements made to manage influx of devotees for Rath Yatra. ECoR general manager Parmeshwar Funkwal inspected Puri railway station and emphasised passenger comfort, crowd management, infrastructure readiness, and integration of technology to elevate pilgrim experience. The railways announced operation of over 365 special trains from various states to accommodate the extraordinary travel demand. To manage the unprecedented crowd, ECoR established dedicated pilgrim waiting areas and mela sheds with a combined capacity of around 20,000 pilgrims. The station infrastructure was significantly enhanced with covered seating zones, modular toilets, drinking water booths, mobile charging stations, and medical first aid stations with ambulance backup. A 24X7 control room at Puri will oversee operations, supported by help desks and 'May I Help You' counters across key points. Mobile UTS counters and automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) with facilitators were also deployed to promote digital ticketing. ECoR official sources said security measures were strengthened with the deployment of RPF and GRP personnel, 250 CCTV cameras, drones, and sniffer dogs. Face recognition technology and dual-stage ticket checks will be implemented at 10 entry gates. Special attention was paid to elderly passengers, women, children, and the medically vulnerable through battery-operated vehicles, reserved seating, and accessible facilities. ECoR also partnered with various NGOs to provide free hygienic food service and drinking water to pilgrims on the railway premises. The railway zone effectively combined technology with tradition to ensure a safer, smarter, and more convenient travel experience for all devotees attending the sacred Rath Yatra.

BHUBANESWAR: In view of the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth travel for pilgrims and visitors from across Odisha and neighbouring states. Sources said a record number of 365 special trains will be operating during the Rath Yatra period, in addition to other regular trains. These special services will be available in various parts of the state including Rourkela, Birmitrapur, Bangiriposi, Junagarh Road, Badampahar, Boudh, Jagdalpur, Balasore, Angul, Gunupur, Rayagada, Paradeep, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Daspalla, Khurda Road, Sambalpur, Talcher, Cuttack, Berhampur, Dhenkanal, Barbil, Palasa and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Gondia (Chhattisgarh) and Santragachi (West Bengal). Special emphasis will be given on major days of the chariot festival. 'The special trains will cater to the massive surge of pilgrims during the festival and significantly ease travel in remote and interior districts. Although the special trains will run on other days, emphasis will be given on Rath Yatra, Sandhya Darshan, Bahuda Yatra and Suna Besha,' said a railway official.
