Michigan football steals 4-star EDGE from South Carolina
The post Michigan football steals 4-star EDGE from South Carolina appeared first on ClutchPoints. The recruiting surge continues! The Michigan football team landed yet another impressive commitment on Tuesday as four-star EDGE Julian Walker announced that he will play for head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines. North Carolina and South Carolina were two main competitors here, and it is especially impressive that Michigan beat out the Gamecocks. Walker's father, Jamil Walker, is the assistant football strength and conditioning coach at South Carolina. His son would rather play for Michigan. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star EDGE Julian Walker has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @rivals,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'6 250 EDGE from Columbia, SC chose the Wolverines over North Carolina & South Carolina.' Julian Walker had a message for the college football world upon his commitment to the Michigan football team: 'I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a MICHIGAN MAN,' he said. Walker is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #155 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #16 EDGE and the #3 player in the state of South Carolina. Walker currently attends Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, SC. The in-state Gamecocks tried their best, but Michigan was the right fit for this elite prospect. Advertisement 'Walker possesses great overall size and length that correlates well to the next level as a 3-4 defensive lineman,' Walker's scouting report reads. 'He has fluid movements to get past the offensive tackle from both inside and outside rushes. Chases the ball with a great motor and can turn and flatten down the line of scrimmage.' Michigan has had some elite pass rushers come through the program in recent years, and Walker is good enough to be one of the next. The sky is the limit for him. 'Plays with reactive quickness and has a counter move,' the scouting report continues. 'Walker has the strength and toughness to be disruptive against the run and make plays as a true 3-down player. Depending on body type and how he develops, Walker could potentially move inside on passing downs.' The 2026 Michigan football recruiting class is shaping up to be a special one. The Wolverines got off to a slow start, but the commitments are now pouring in almost daily. Sherrone Moore and Michigan now have one of the best recruiting classes in the country, and more commitments are coming. Numerous top targets are expected to announce their decisions this week, and the Wolverines are in great position with a lot of them. The Florida Gators had a pivotal year in 2024, following an 8-5 record, which marked head coach Billy Napier's first winning season. Advertisement The Gators got more good news on the 4th of July, with a prediction from Rivals' Sam Spiegs. Spiegs predicted Florida to land four-star edge rusher Kevin Ford from the 2026 class. Ford is 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, and is a native of Duncanville, Texas. Florida is without a commitment from an edge rusher from the 2026 class. The Gators' class currently ranks No. 15 overall for the 2026 cycle on On3 Sports. He also holds offers from the Texas A&M Aggies, SMU Mustangs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and others. Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier and quarterback DJ Lagway (2).Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images Ford is the No. 18 edge rusher and Texas prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings. Michigan football trending up for 5-star EDGE
The post Michigan football trending up for 5-star EDGE appeared first on ClutchPoints. This past weekend was another big one for the Michigan football team as it was packed with important official visits. One of the top prospects in the entire 2026 recruiting class was on campus as five-star EDGE Carter Meadows made the trip to Ann Arbor. He is one of the biggest targets for Sherrone Moore and this coaching staff. Advertisement The Michigan football team has a lot of tough competition here as Carter Meadows is being recruited hard by numerous top programs. Still, the Wolverines are in good standing as he nears a decision. 'Michigan is definitely high on my list,' Meadows said after his visit, according to a post from EJ Holland. Meadows is a five-star recruit according to On3, but according to 247Sports, he is a four-star. He is the #34 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #5 EDGE and the top player in Washington, DC. Meadows currently attends Gonzaga High School in DC. 'Spider-like pass rusher with exceptional physical specs, but one where the sack total has yet to match the big-league potential,' Meadows' scouting report reads. 'Can give opposing offensive tackles fits just with his stride length as he can run the arc and right into the quarterback. Has spent much of prep career attacking from a 5-technique in a four-man front. Wins more times than not with his top-flight athleticism as he pairs adequate get-off with slippery inside-outside agility, but further technical development will dictate pressure rate on Saturdays and beyond as he's got the levers to chop and swipe his way around the corner like few others.' Advertisement There is obviously still a lot that Meadows can do to improve, but the Michigan football team could be getting a player with potential to be playing football for a long time. 'Makes his fair share of stops in backside pursuit with his closing speed, but has to get better at crushing blocks and holding his turf if he's going to make a living as an every-down defender,' the scouting report continues. 'Should be viewed as a high-upside edge player that has a chance to develop into an absolute game-wrecker at the Power Four level and then an early-round NFL Draft pick if he can soak up coaching and embrace the weight room. Might be worth a look in a hybrid off-the-ball role as spatial awareness fostered on the basketball court allows him to drop into zones and affect passing lanes.' It's unclear when exactly we will hear a decision from Carter Meadows, but it should be coming soon. A commitment would give the 2026 Michigan football recruiting class a nice boost.
