Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra, and Subhadra will begin their 18-km journey from the Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur at 7 am. With rain forecast by the weather department, temple trust authorities have installed a large protective dome over the chariots to shield them until the yatra begins. City police, in coordination with paramilitary forces, have deployed around 24,000 personnel along the procession route. In a first, the police will use an AI-based crowd monitoring tool developed by a local startup. The software will analyse live CCTV footage to detect crowd density and alert authorities if limits are exceeded. Over 300 CCTV cameras and nearly 60 drones will monitor the event, while many police officers will wear body cameras. The live surveillance feed will be tracked from a central control room at the city police commissioner's office. Additionally, GPS devices fitted on the three chariots will help officials track their real-time location. "A mobile monitoring van will also be used to process live footage. Rath yatra has long served as a platform to pilot cutting-edge policing technologies. This year, trainee officers will observe the deployment as part of their field training," said a senior police official. Around 1,000 traffic police personnel will be deployed, supported by 23 cranes, 240 terrace points, and 25 watch towers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Authorities have installed 44 public address systems and set up 17 public health booths along the route. Of 484 identified dangerous buildings, residents will be urged not to climb them. AFES and EMRI 108 vehicles will be strategically positioned to handle any emergencies. As tradition has it, the deities returned from their maternal uncle's home on Thursday and had their eyes covered before the main procession on Friday. Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, accompanied by senior city and state officials, performed the evening aarti at the temple. On Friday, the CM will perform the symbolic 'Pahind Vidhi', the ritual of sweeping the road to mark the beginning of the yatra. Preparations by truck associations and participating groups have also concluded. This year, several tableaux are expected to feature themes related to 'Operation Sindoor' and the recent AI 171 plane crash. Pankaj Purani, an akhada member, said that this year, about five girls will participate in the procession and will show their prowess in martial arts. "For the past couple of years, girls have started participating even as it becomes physically demanding to be on the road for the entire day. We have also seen enthusiastic participation from akhada members," he said. Box: 213 rath yatras across Gujarat According to the Director General of Police (DGP) office in Gandhinagar, a total of 213 rath yatra processions will take place across Gujarat on Friday. The DGP's office will coordinate with district police units to ensure smooth and secure conduct of these processions. In Ahmedabad alone, 10 separate processions have been scheduled in various parts of the city, including western areas, by organisations such as ISKCON, Swaminarayan Gurukul, and Tripada School. Other major cities, including Bhavnagar, will also host multiple rath yatras, drawing large crowds. Box: Saraspur's mega kitchens to feed 2L devotees Saraspur, revered as the 'maternal home' of the three deities, is ready to welcome lakhs of devotees. The neighbourhood will feed nearly 2 lakh people as part of the annual tradition. Over the years, several new Pols and societies have joined the initiative, making it a collective celebration of devotion.

New video shows Air India survivor Vishwash Kumar Ramesh walk away after he 'tried to go back' to wreckage to fins brother
New video has been shared of the moment British national Vishwash Ramesh emerge from the fiery wreckage of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner which crashed moments after takeoff last week. The only surviving passenger of the Air India crash had tried to go back into the fiery wreckage to find his brother, a local first responder has revealed. British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh made headlines across the world following his miracle survival of the crash that claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had taken off from Ahmedabad bound for London on Thursday afternoon when it came down into a dense neighbourhood moments later. New video has since emerged of Mr Ramesh walking away from the raging fire which engulfed several buildings including a medical college hostel for doctors. The clip, posted overnight, showed horrified locals in discussion and screaming while in the background Mr Ramesh emerged while talking on the phone to a loved one. Dressed in a white t-shirt, the 40-year-old stumbled away with minor injuries. Paramedic Satinder Singh Sandhu was one of the first emergency crews to arrive at the scene where he found a hostel guard had suffered burns. He then spotted another man come out of the building. Mr Sandhu later realised it was the only survivor. — Breaking Aviation News & Videos (@aviationbrk) June 16, 2025 Speaking to India media, the paramedic said Mr Ramesh appeared "disoriented" and had even "tried" to go back to the wreckage in hopes of finding his brother Ajay. The British national was seated in 11A, while his brother was assigned 11J. "We later got to know his brother was on the flight, and he was trying to check on him. But the EMRI 108 team escorted him to Civil Hospital," Mr Sandhu said. Speaking from his hospital bed on Friday hours after one of worst aviation disasters claimed at least 270 lives, including multiple on the ground, Mr Ramesh said they had been in the air for about five to ten seconds when something did not feel right. "It felt like the plane was stuck. It felt like something had happened," he told local Indian media, adding a green and white light then turned on in the cabin. "The pilot was trying to give it a bit of a push it forward but it was struggling. Everything happened in front of my eyes. I still can't believe myself how I came out alive. For a little while I thought I was going to die. But when I opened my eyes I realised I was alive. "I pulled out the belt from under my seat and tried to escape (but couldn't). Then I managed to do it. I saw others and the air hostess in front of me who couldn't escape." Mr Ramesh had jumped out of the emergency exit door he was sitting next to moments after the crash and video called his father to tell him what had happened. An investigation into how the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner - one of the safest aircraft in the world - crashed seconds after takeoff is underway. The model had not been in a fatal crash until the Air India tradedy. Meanwhile, funerals have been held for the victims across the city.

Two TB patients ‘thrown out' of Civil
1 2 Ahmedabad: Two TB patients were reportedly removed from the Civil Hospital purportedly by a resident doctor, early on Tuesday morning. Hospital authorities however claimed that the patients may have left the premises on their own. The hospital's medical superintendent stated that a detailed probe was initiated, and both patients readmitted by Tuesday afternoon. According to residents of the area, a senior citizen saw an auto dropping off a man who was clearly unable to walk. The senior citizen informed his son, who followed the auto and saw another man being dropped off in the same manner at a distance. The son confronted the auto driver. In a video shot by the son, the driver is heard saying that a "young-looking" doctor called for the auto, gave him some money, and asked him to drop the two patients "outside Civil Hospital". The incident created a furore and eventually reached Civil Hospital authorities. The two patients were hurriedly located and brought back to the TB ward through EMRI 108 ambulances. Sources said that both patients did not have any relatives or caretakers accompanying them. Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, told the media that the patients were aged 45 and 58 years. The former had been shifted from a hospital in Godhra, while the latter had been transferred from Sola Civil Hospital after suspected tuberculosis. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Their videos show the tag on their hands, indicating that they were admitted and provided primary treatment," said Dr Joshi. "Local staff claimed that around 3am during the night round, the two patients were not found on their cots, and their files were also missing. Their version indicated that they left the premises on their own without informing the staff." Dr Joshi stated this is a serious incident, and all on night duty on Monday are being questioned. "Action will be initiated not only against the doctor responsible but also against the head of the unit if the allegations are true. Currently, the patient from Godhra is stable, and we expect his statement to shed light on what happened early on Tuesday," he said. Sources indicated that the state health department sought details of the incident from the hospital authorities on Tuesday.

Ahmedabad's hottest month May had only seven 40°C+ days in 2025
Ahmedabad: May 2024 was one of the hottest months for the city ever. It saw 21 days of temperature over 40 degrees celsius with two hottest days in the history — May 23 with 46.6 degrees and May 26 with 45.9 degrees, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In sharp contrast, 2025 recorded one of the least hot months of May with temperature breaching the 40-degrees mark only on seven days. The month, feared for its scorching heat and relentless heatwaves, set records for the lowest maximum temperatures of 26.9 degrees Celsius on May 7 recorded ever in Ahmedabad. The maximum temperatures of 33 degrees and 33.7 degrees recorded this month were also 7th and 9th lowest maximum temperatures ever for Ahmedabad. Analysis of maximum and minimum temperatures for the city for May, 2025 indicated that the average maximum temperature was 38.5 degrees Celsius, which is very low compared to 41.8 degrees Celsius mean maximum temperature between 1991-2020. Overall, the maximum temperature remained 3.3 degrees below normal, according to analysis. On the other hand, the average minimum temperature at 27.4 degrees was close to normal. Across Gujarat, only three towns and cities — Rajkot, Surendranagar and Kandla — recorded sustained high temperatures while the temperature remained below 40 degrees across other cities and towns. Ashok Kumar Das, director of IMD Gujarat, said that for Ahmedabad – and Gujarat at large – May is one of the hottest summer months. "This year Gujarat saw record rainfall overall with all districts of Gujarat receiving rains. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Whenever there is cloudy weather, the maximum temperature gets reduced and minimum temperature increases or remains the same, something which we have observed this year," he said. The reduction in heat was also reflected in heat-related emergencies recorded with EMRI 108. Compared to 3,084 heat related emergencies in Gujarat in 2024, this May saw a sizable 40% decline with 2,070 heat related emergencies. For Ahmedabad city, the numbers were 879 and 469 respectively till May 30. The humid nature of heat however still led many citizens suffering from heat stroke. Dr Pravin Garg, a city-based physician, said that citizens are accustomed to dry heat. "This time around, it was high heat with high humidity. Thus, we saw several cases where the patients complained of uneasiness, fluctuation in blood pressure, muscle cramps and gastric problems among others. So while we did not see a high number of heat strokes, we saw a big number of people coming down with heat triggered malaise," he said.
