ESSCOM boosts security and community benefits in Sabah's ESSZone

TAWAU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) has upheld its dual role of ensuring security and fostering community development in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) over the past 14 years. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted ESSCOM's commitment to peace, enabling initiatives like the MADANI Adopted Village Programme in Kampung Inderasabah. Saifuddin noted that ESSCOM allocated RM1 million for infrastructure projects in the village, including physical and non-physical upgrades. The programme, part of a nationwide RM200 million initiative by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to benefit 200 villages, with 12 to 13 under the Home Ministry. ESSCOM CEO Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali explained that Kampung Inderasabah was chosen due to its unique security challenges, eco-tourism potential, and proximity to Indonesian waters. Approved projects include a village entrance gate, pavilion upgrades, a school hall, futsal court, and mosque improvements. Solar street lights, footbridge repairs, and community programmes are also planned. Collaborating with the Tawau Municipal Council and GiatMARA Tawau, ESSCOM ensures timely project completion. Jamaluddin emphasized strengthening ESSCOM-community ties to sustain peace and prosperity in Eastern Sabah. Apas assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan praised ESSCOM's long-term partnership with the village in crime prevention and community development. He expressed confidence that the projects would alleviate poverty and enhance infrastructure. - Bernama

Malaysia ranks 13th in 2025 global peace index, says Saifuddin

TAWAU: Malaysia has secured the 13th spot in the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. While the country's overall score remained unchanged, its ranking slipped from 10th in 2024 due to improvements by other nations. Saifuddin noted that Malaysia was placed 19th in 2023, showing progress over time. He explained that Scandinavian countries advanced in peacekeeping expenditure and other indicators, pushing them ahead despite Malaysia's stable performance. 'When compared with 165 countries, we are on the right track,' he said during the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Kampung Angkat MADANI launch in Kampung Inderasabah. Official data from the GPI website confirmed Malaysia's score of 1.469, ranking it 13th out of 163 nations. To further improve, Saifuddin highlighted tourism as a key focus. The Home Ministry has engaged foreign diplomats through briefings and security reviews, particularly targeting high-potential markets like the US and Europe. 'By showcasing Sabah's east coast to diplomats, we aim to boost tourist confidence and arrivals,' he said, adding that these efforts have already yielded positive results. - Bernama

Kg Inderasabah Receives RM1 Mln Under MADANI Village Adoption Programme

TAWAU, April 22 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Finance has allocated RM1 million to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) under the MADANI Village Adoption programme in Kampung Inderasabah, to enhance the well-being of the local community. ESSCOM chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali, said the initiative encompasses infrastructure development as well as safety and security measures. 'We have identified seven projects to upgrade Kampung Inderasabah, which include improving street lighting, upgrading the village jetty and enhancing overall security. An additional RM200,000 has been allocated for education and technical and vocational training programmes,' he said. 'Based on intelligence from ESSCOM's Security Division, the area is exposed to cross-border criminal activities such as fuel smuggling and piracy,' he told reporters after the Kampung Angkat MADANI central committee meeting chaired by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, here today. Jamaluddin noted that Kampung Inderasabah holds economic potential and the advantage of a united community, adding that if the model proves successful, the programme could be extended to other areas within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone. ESSCOM will also implement the Sekolah Angkat MADANI programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lihak-Lihak in Semporna, with an allocation of RM100,000, said Jamaluddin. Meanwhile, Nizam, who is also Apas assemblyman, expressed confidence that the initiative would positively impact Kampung Inderasabah, which falls within his constituency. 'This programme will add value to the village's security and socio-economic status, as it's a hotspot, located along the maritime borders with Indonesia and the Philippines. 'This initiative stems from the vision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who aspires to engage all communities through coordinated services provided by government agencies,' he added.
