EU very close to a trade agreement with the US: Trade commissioner Sefcovic

Mr Sefcovic said such levies would effectively shut transatlantic trade down. Will Denselow reports from Brussels.

Former EU Trade Comissioner: Member States Divided on Tariff Retaliation
"I'm not very optimistic - I think there will be a very small deal, kind of like the one the UK got," says Cecilia Malmström, EU Trade Commissioner from 2014 to 2019, as trade negotiations between Brussels and Washington continue. Some member states are "willing to go very far to get a deal if it secures a rather low tariff in key sectors," she argues. "Others are saying we don't want these tariffs at all," and are more open to retaliation, she adds. (Source: Bloomberg)
