Skytrax World's Cleanest Airlines 2025: Nine out of the top 10 are from Asia
Whether you're stuck on a speedy two-hour flight or a long-haul journey across the world, the last thing you want is a grimy seat, litter in the pockets, and washrooms that smell less than petal-fresh. It's not a simple matter of comfort, we'd argue – hygiene counts for much more in a post-pandemic world. If you'd like a level of guarantee when it comes to aircraft cleanliness, you can turn to the authorities over at Skytrax. The airline and airport review website recently announced its ranking of the World's Best Airlines for 2025 – and winners in a host of other categories, including cleanliness. For its World's Cleanest Airlines 2025 ranking, it rated the cleanliness and presentation of seat areas, tables, carpets, cabin panels, washrooms, and more to determine the final results. Topping this squeaky clean list is Taiwanese airline EVA Air. This is the first time that the airline has received this honour from Skytrax, having moved up from the No. 3 position last year. It's an all-round good airline though, having maintained its 5-star rating from Skytrax for 10 years now. We're proud to say that the World's Cleanest Airlines list is dominated by Asian airlines. A full 13 Asian carriers are on the list, with nine filling out the top 10 ranks. After EVA Air is Japanese airline ANA All Nippon Airways at No. 2 and Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific Airways at No. 3. Qatar Airways just edges out Singapore Airlines – awarded the best airline in Asia for 2025 by Skytrax – which sits comfortably at No.5. Ranks six through 14 are filled by Asian airlines from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Check out the full list below. Skytrax World's Cleanest Airlines 2025: EVA Air ANA All Nippon Airways Cathay Pacific Airways Qatar Airways Singapore Airlines Hainan Airlines STARLUX Airlines Japan Airlines Korean Air China Southern Airlines China Airlines Malaysia Airlines Hong Kong Airlines Asiana Airlines Finnair Swiss International Air Lines Austrian Airlines Qantas Airways Lufthansa Saudia Have you heard? How to bag a bargain in premium economy: Here's how to get up to 63 per cent off your holiday flights - with extra leg room, superior food and speedier boarding too
Can't afford first or business class but want something more comfortable than economy? That's why 'premium economy' was invented. In the 1990s airlines realised they were missing out on an 'inbetween' market for those with a little more to spend but not a fortune. In 1991, the Taiwanese airline EVA Air led the way by introducing Evergreen Class. Virgin was quick to follow, calling its offering Mid Class, before the name changed to Premium Economy in 1994. BA introduced its version, World Traveller Plus, in 2000.

Taiwan Airlines to raise fuel surcharges amid soaring oil prices
New Delhi [India] July 4 (ANI): Taiwan's three major airlines, China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines, announced on Friday that they will increase fuel surcharges on all international flights starting July 7, citing rising global oil prices, as reported by Focus Taiwan. The move follows a jump in aviation fuel prices, which averaged USD 92.99 per barrel in July, according to state-run CPC Corp, Taiwan, the news platform added. In response, the airlines will hike fuel surcharges from USD 15 to USD 17.50 for short-haul routes and from USD 39 to USD 45.50 for long-haul journeys. The additional fuel costs per passenger vary by airline. China Airlines will charge USD 41.29 for short-haul flights and USD 191.49 for long-haul routes, according to the report. EVA Air will apply a surcharge of USD 41.92 for short-haul and USD 250.48 for long-haul passengers. Starlux Airlines passengers will pay USD 19.46 for short-haul and USD 98.46 for long-haul flights. Fuel surcharges for Taiwanese international carriers are reviewed and adjusted monthly based on aviation fuel prices released by CPC Corp., Taiwan, and reported to the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA). The surcharge mechanism, introduced in 2004, enables airlines to offset volatile fuel costs by passing some of the burden onto passengers. As fuel prices climb, the latest adjustments reflect continued pressure on airline operating costs and could make international travel slightly more expensive for passengers, the news report added. I have an overseas flight booked. What do current world events mean for my travel plans?
Volcano eruptions, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and the introduction of ' enhanced vetting ' following Donald Trump's inauguration have left many Australian travellers nervous, regardless of their chosen destination. Here's how to prepare for your coming overseas holiday, and what to know about the potential implications of crises – natural disasters or otherwise – on your travel plans. What popular flight routes have changed? It's not unusual for airlines to reroute flights to avoid disrupting services where safely possible, though cancelling flights can be unavoidable at times for airports. On Thursday, flights to and from Bali resumed with a backlog after two days of suspension due to the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption. In May, when fighting between India and Pakistan broke out some airlines used alternative flight paths through the Middle East to avoid Pakistani airspace. Taiwan's EVA Air, for example, diverted one flight from Taipei to Milan through Vienna for refuelling, and Korean Air rerouted its Incheon to Dubai flights south, flying over Myanmar, Bangladesh and India instead of through Pakistan's airspace. In addition to the closures of Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport and Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, most of Iraq's airports except Basra International Airport remain closed as of June 20. That same day, American Airlines suspended its daily flights from Philadelphia to Doha, Qatar, and United Airlines paused its daily flights from New Jersey to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Delta Air Lines and United Airlines flights from the United States to Israel have been suspended since June 13. According to FlightRadar24, since Iran and Iraq's airspace closed on June 13, flights over Saudi Arabia have doubled and the number of flights passing over Afghanistan has increased by close to 500 per cent. According to FlightRadar24, the two airlines most affected are Qatar Airways and Emirates, with their flights to Europe and North America being rerouted.
