Patriots move young tackle to guard

FOXBOROUGH – When he was drafted last year, the plan for Caedan Wallace was to be the Patriots future at either left tackle or right tackle. This offseason, however, the Patriots approached Wallace about changing positions – and that's why the 2024 third-round pick has played every training camp snap at left guard. Speaking on Wednesday, the young offensive lineman said he welcomed the move. 'I actually like guard – a lot,' Wallace said. 'It's different, and different is always fun for me. I'm learning new stuff every day. It's really fun, it's really, really fun. I like hitting people, and at tackle, you have to think a little more. At guard, you can kind of fire off and get your face in stuff more.' Wallace, 25, played in six games last season, making two snaps. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 58 snaps at right tackle, 40 at left tackle, and 30 as a tight end-eligible tackle. At right tackle at Penn State, Wallace noted he had practiced at guard in college and again at the East-West Shrine Bowl before the 2024 NFL Draft. This offseason, Wallace started at right tackle for the Patriots. He said the team called him on the phone on a Saturday at the end of OTAs. Wallace was told that the new plan for him was to move to left guard. He was asked to come into Gillette Stadium, where the team talked to him about the move. 'Just competing,' Wallace said. 'They said they wanted to put me in the best position to compete. They felt that would be left guard, so I'm just grinding.' At tackle, the Patriots have been starting Will Campbell and Morgan Moses. Demontray Jacobs has been the top swing tackle and top player on the right side. Rookie Marcus Bryant has taken the top backup reps at left tackle. At guard, Wallace has rotated in with Jared Wilson and Cole Strange. On Wednesday, he took the top backup left guard reps while Strange was at center and Wilson was the starter. Mike Vrabel said Wallace has looked more comfortable at his new position as camp has unfolded. 'Big, strong, powerful kid, and just looking to put everybody in an opportunity for them to excel and a place to compete, which he's done,' Vrabel said. 'I would say that he's been headed in the right direction these last couple days since we put pads on. I think he's gotten more comfortable. I think he's – they all have – everybody's going to make mistakes, but I think that there's been a lot of really positive plays and then continue to move forward.' 10 Iowa football players named to Shrine Bowl 1000 list

The annual East-West Shrine Bowl is a great opportunity for players across the country from all levels to showcase their skills to NFL talent evaluators, in the hopes of being drafted or signed. Every offseason, before the ball kicks off and a new season of college football commences, the Shrine Bowl puts together a list of 1000 college football players from around the nation who they think could have success at the NFL level. The official Shrine Bowl page describes the process a bit more easily. Every year, approximately 1000 all-star game eligible players are drafted, signed after the draft, or attend a rookie mini-camp. Our aim is for this Shrine Bowl 1000 to serve as a look into our scouting process, as well as begin to preview college players who are currently all-star game eligible for the 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl and 2026 NFL Draft class. Putting together this list was extremely challenging for our team, as we scouted players from all four levels of football and consulted with NFL and college personnel to ensure the selection of the best 1000 players for the NFL level. It's a great honor to be named to the preseason Shrine Bowl 1000, as it's a sign that some talent evaluators view you as a potential NFL player. And ten current Iowa football players found their way onto the list. Which Hawkeyes made the Shrine Bowl 1000 list? The 10 Hawkeyes named to the list, all seniors, of course, are as follows: It's a great sign for so many veterans on the roster to be recognized by the Shrine Bowl. Players like Dunker, Jones, Hurkett, and Wetjen have received a lot of praise this offseason, but it's nice to see Stephens, Hall, and Llewellyn receive some flowers as well. They're very underrated players who will be huge parts of the Hawkeye football team this season. The 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl is on January 27, 2026, in Frisco, Texas. The annual game is available to watch every year, and Hawkeye fans should get the chance to see at least one, if not numerous, Hawkeyes take the field for the Shrine Bowl next year. Despite the losses of Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter to the NFL, the Colorado Buffaloes still have players with serious NFL potential. The 2026 Shrine Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 27 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Colorado had six players compete in the 2025 Shrine Bowl, including Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. Below are the ten Buffaloes who were named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000: QB Kaidon Salter Kaidon Salter is amid a quarterback competition against star freshman Julian Lewis, but after winning Conference USA MVP in 2023, the transfer quarterback looks to go out on a high note. LB Martavius French French comes to Boulder hoping to grab hold of the Buffs' starting middle linebacker role. RB Dallan Hayden Hayden showed flashes last year, and after Colorado lost their leading rusher to the transfer portal, he has a chance to be the Buffaloes' starting running back. He can play every position on the offensive line and should start most games this year. CB Preston Hodge Hodge returns as Colorado's top option at the nickel position. LB Reginald Hughes Hughes and French are the projected top two inside linebackers on the Buffs roster. Their ability to form chemistry will be a major storyline during fall camp. CB DJ McKinney McKinney is set to take over for Travis Hunter as Colorado's top coverage cornerback. He could be a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. DL Amari McNeill McNeill steps into a starting defensive tackle role, and his production will be needed for the Buffs to repeat as the Big 12 sack leaders. DL Jehiem Oatis After transferring from Alabama as the top defensive player in the portal (as of Dec. 18, 2024), Oatis has expectations to make an immediate impact.
