Pilot in hospital after plane crash
A pilot has been taken to hospital after a light plane crashed into a field. It happened near Whitehouse Road in Stebbing, Essex and firefighters and other emergency services were called to the scene at about 13:30 BST. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The pilot, an adult male, was transported by road to Broomfield Hospital [near Chelmsford] with minor injuries." Scott Fretton, a station manager with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Crews assisted our emergency services colleagues with the casualty." He added: "They used an off-road vehicle to dampen down the area around the aircraft as there was a risk it would set alight." Andrewsfield Aviation is less than two miles away from Stebbing, while the village is about halfway between Stansted Airport and Braintree. Two children in hospital after tree falls in park
Two children have been taken to hospital after a tree fell at a park in Essex. Three other children suffered minor injuries following the incident at Chalkwell Park in Southend. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.55pm to reports that a tree had fallen in Chalkwell Park in Chalkwell. "Six ambulances, three ambulance officer vehicles, the London Air Ambulance and Kent Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. "Two children were transported by road to Southend University Hospital. A further three children were later transported by road to the same hospital with minor injuries." Essex Police said: "We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Chalkwell Park. "Officers, alongside ambulance and fire service colleagues, are responding. "We were alerted shortly before 3pm to reports of a tree falling in the park. "There have been a number of casualties and our work at the scene is ongoing. "We would please ask the public to avoid this area where possible while this work continues." Hovercraft used to rescue swimmers in busy day for Southend Coastguard
SOUTHEND'S Coastguard and RNLI rescued five casualties with the help of a hovercraft yesterday as high-visitors numbers saw a busy day for the services. The Coastguard responded to a number of incidents yesterday as thousands of visitors made the most of sky-high temperatures. The casualties rescued by hovercraft had been struggling in the sea and the Coastguard has today warned sun-seekers to exercise caution whilst making the most of the good weather. A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Southend said: 'We were tasked to receive five casualties picked up by the RNLI hovercraft off Sealife Centre struggling in water. 'Coastguard officers received the casualties and provided primary casualty care whilst awaiting East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust paramedics. Man has life threatening injuries after scooter crash on M1
A man in his 40s has been left with life-threatening injuries after a scooter collided with the central reservation of the M1 motorway. Hertfordshire Police said a grey Yamaha scooter crashed at about 15:30 BST on Wednesday near junction eight, northbound, for Hemel Hempstead. The road was closed overnight but has since reopened. The force said the man and a woman in her 40s were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police, the East of England Ambulance Service, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Herts and Essex Air Ambulance Service all attended. Sgt Chris Whales said: "As part of our investigations into what happened, I am appealing to anyone who either witnessed the collision or was driving in the area at the time of the incident to please contact me."He also appealed for anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch. The road, just a few miles away in Bedfordshire, was also closed for several hours on Wednesday, northbound between junctions 11 for Luton and 11A for Dunstable and Houghton Regis, following a crash. Two cars and two lorries were involved, and firefighters also tackled an unrelated lorry fire, which was part of the traffic caught within the closure, National Highways road was shut overnight for emergency resurfacing work and for pre-planned works to be carried out and has since reopened.
