Ole Miss mourns ‘a great young man' as freshman Corey Adams shot to death at 18

Ole Miss defensive lineman Corey Adams has died at the age of 18 in a Tennessee shooting, the school confirmed in a statement. 'While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' Ole Miss said in a statement posted on social media. 'Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.' The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said the freshman died in an incident on Saturday night in Cordova, a short distance from Memphis. Police said Adams died at the scene of the shooting, in which four other men sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The 6ft 4in, 250lb Adams was a standout at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans before enrolling with Ole Miss. 'I do a lot of wild stuff on the field,' Adams said after he announced he would go to Ole Miss. 'My coach was not lying. I really do some crazy stuff. I'm aggressive. I'm hard. You can't make me bow down. Somebody is going to have to surrender when I'm on the field. I don't fear nobody, and that's how it's going to stay.' A statement on the Edna Karr Facebook page remembered Adams as 'a friend, brother, son, student, and all around great young man.' Adams started attending Ole Miss in January as an early enrollee to gain experience before the college football season starts next month.

Ranking the prospects in Texas Longhorns 2026 recruiting class

Ranking the prospects in Texas Longhorns 2026 recruiting class The summer recruiting season is in full swing. Schools are hosting recruits and holding camps, like the Longhorns did last week. elite Five-Star Challenge is in 11 days. Recruits are making tough decisions by either reducing the number of schools on their list or outright committing. Texas has seen four players commit in the past week. DT Dylan Berymon, WR Kohen Brown, DT Corey Wells and P Mikey Bukauskas have all added their names to the list of committed prospects in UT's 2026 recruiting class. The Longhorns currently have 13 prospects pledged to play on the 40 Acres. According to On3's industry team rankings, Texas has the No. 13 class in the nation. In the past few years, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has a measured approach to recruiting early in the cycle. There will be signings early, but many of the elite prospects want to wait until closer to National Signing Day in December. Much of the summer is spent building relationships with those five-star and high four-star players so Texas is in good position to sign them late. Much like Justus Terry in the 2025 cycle. Here's a look at the current 2026 Longhorn recruiting class using On3's industry rankings, which combines all of the ratings from the major recruiting sites. Remember, the devil is in the details. Bukauskas is the No. 1585 ranked player in the nation, but he is the No. 1 punter.
