45 students honored with Awards for Excellence
May 5—For the 38th consecutive year, Ector County ISD will honor many of its top graduating seniors at the Awards for Excellence banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the MCM Elegante. This year's celebration is presented by the Education Foundation of Odessa. The Awards for Excellence honors 45 students across nine categories of achievement. The students represent each of ECISD's six high schools and are selected by teachers from their respective schools based on academic excellence and outstanding accomplishment in their category, a news release said. Students share the evening with their parents and a favorite teacher. School leaders, district leaders, school board members, and community sponsors are included in the event providing a microcosm of the support it takes to produce successful students.

Local Education Foundation Executive Director receives certification as an Education Foundation Leader
Apr. 7—Across the country, education foundations and their leaders need to operate more efficiently to impact the education community they serve, more effectively. The CEFL Certification Program strengthens and education foundation to succeed now and into the future with proven standards of excellence for the administration and management of an education foundation regardless of size, geographic location, or education community served, a news release said. Based on the Guiding Principles for Education Foundations, the CEFL Certification Program provides critical insights from subject matter experts in six domains. Specifically: Leadership & Planning, Marketing, Legal & Finance, Resource Development, and Collaboration. Celeste Potter, Executive Director of Education Foundation of Odessa was one of 21 individuals across the country to receive the Certification as an Education Leader at the National Association of Education Foundations Annual Conference, ImpactED '25, that took place in Knoxville, Tenn. "The CEFL is the only training program specific to education foundation leaders. Since its inception in 2011, the CEFL has been awarded to 122 individuals across 31 states who have completed the rigorous requirements. Celeste's exemplary work in the program not only strengthened her local leadership at the Education Foundation of Odessa, but also positioned her as a nationally recognized industry leader. It has been an honor to work alongside Celeste and I'm excited to follow her continued great work in Odessa," CEFL Program Director Sara D. Bender said in the release.
